I think you should do your own research before investing in a new project for the trust. Research the team members of the project. Then read the project's whitepaper. At the same time, I think you should check the roadmap of that project and check the other platforms which this project is planning to sign the partnership agreement. Finally, I recommend you read the comments on the social media about this project. If you cannot trust the project after these researches, then I think you should not invest in that project.
First of all, when it comes to investment , you need thorough research. Don't say a project is trusted then buy in their coin in bulk without proper due diligence. So many new coins are scam in the long run because some team members are just after money raised during token sale and have no development plans, that's sad.

Can't blame you man, putting your money into something not knowing if they're legit or not is super hard. One thing I've learned over investing in ICO's for the past 2 years is this, Do Your Own Research. And check if they have realistic claims plus a legit team. This startup collectible project has sold out their private sales and will go through IEO. Even though you still don't have much assurance, but that's one of the best things you can have when looking at new projects.

Spend some of your times researching the project which you are thinking of investing. Look at their use case, team and their transparency. I think those will give a good experience.
if you want sure investment, then invest only on the coins that are in the top 100.. those are already proven though sometimes price is up and down, but still they are good project
In my opinion, it's better to invest in coins that already have a good reputation, even if I narrow down only the top 20, I'm sure coins with large marketcaps will continue to survive.
