I don't request loans~
Introduce the forum to those who are willing to contribute or who are willing to learn so that they could contribute. Joining bounties is fine and all but learning should still be the priority most of the users should strive for. That or just blending in and not spamming. Like join gamblers in gambling discussions, talk about debates in off-topic and the like. Mods should also probably add the opinions of the other comments? the one where the OP would close the thread once he/she has received a satisfactory answer? This could also stop some threads from being necrobumped which were already answered.

Let´s make it simple:

- Read the post about rules. It is pinned here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/newbies-read-before-posting-1689727

- Post in the correct boards.

- Search before you ask.

- Be polite, however posts like "nice", "thanks", "good idea" are not welcome.

- Never, ever repeat your post or copy/paste content from the internet.

- Don´t ask for merit. There are too many posts about it.

You should be fairly safe with this.
Newbies really needs to read and know about this so they could put up with the rules and manage to stay in the forum peacefully. But aside from the newbies, Sr. members or those who are in this forum for years should also be reminded about the things the newbies should take note, we are all in this together and as members who practically know more about the forum we should help the beginners put up to their roles so all of us can benefit and will contribute to the betterment of the forum. Let us all make this forum informative and full of sense by sharing quality posts, be it based on facts, experiences, or your insights, share it for everyones benefits.

Thank you this is a great guide for newbies even for me too, I think I can help the forum in learning from my mistakes, I made a mistake in the past and move on and tell newbies not to do it. Help them and answer their questions with my little knowledge. I have nothing else to say your guide is a complete package to be a good member of the forum, everyone should read it.

Ranking is important in the forum,  but don't let low rank dissuade you from contributing greatly to the forum.

Let the users with high ranks be a challenge to you as it drives you to do more in contributing to the forum and building yourself up.

Remember,  every good thing takes time and work,  so you've got to work your way to greatness.

In has much as this is a good cause(thread), not everyone will get to see such a board to be in the know and allow everyone of us to play their part...unless we had pop ups which arent part of simple machines  Roll Eyes and as far as i know we could have users from other forums who could be in to spam BCT in an effort to make it less credible... so i guess in the end everyone has their own agendas.

I am totally confuse about activity that i have done yet, i need a help to be a part of communication, how can i grow-up my activity regularly?

Your activity points will go up in a very simple way, just be active in forum and post at least one post per day. In this way you will get 14 activity posts every two week, which is the maximum you can get. Admin is explain how it works in this post : Activity & new membergroup limits.

You will also be interested in how some other things work in this forum (merits, ranks, signatures, avatars), and you can get information about that in Meta board Forum ranks/positions/badges.

I think we should adopt StackExchanges moderating formula.

From a technical perspective, how difficult it is to implement that on SMF? Maybe you can suggest this feature for the new forum system, but I'm pretty sure it can change and affect a lot of things. Atm the spam happens because there are too many posts with relatively limited moderators which makes it takes some time to delete the spammy post.

Instead of implementing a new system, I think encouraging users to engage with patroling or hire new mod is way better imo.

I don't think the technical aspect is all that difficult. In effect everyone, as they gain reputation, gets more and more moderation privileges. Moderation includes upvoting posts (you're limited in how posts you can upvote), downvoting, flagging as spam or low-quality, etc... People, with a high enough level of privilege, will vote on whether or not to delete the post.

I would change that in this forum. I would never delete a post but would allow people to filter out posts that have been flagged (and then moderated) as hateful, or spam or low quality, etc...

I think we should adopt StackExchanges moderating formula.

It weeds out spam and nonsense posts extremely well.
Noteworthy posts are voted up.

They've solved the problem of garbage posts and friends upvoting each other. This forum should adopt some of those techniques.

Maybe you can add in your post to avoid over-quoting. I know it's also in the rules, but if you can add it here directly it would be clearer as it's one of the most important ways to keep a discussion clean from unnecessary quoting-spam and avoid confusions. Decent quotes are contributing to the discussion, but if you just quote the entire last comment you refer to or the entire OP it's getting very fast very messy. Especially delete large pictures in your quote, if not necessary. It's useful to use the original quote link and if someone is interested to read the full post the quote refers to, you can click it and it will switch to the originally quoted post, like this:

-snip-

This quoting-strategy is also very useful if you quote something from another thread because you are redirected directly to it if you click it.

I know, many participants won't improve it but if we can reach only few of them, this would be doing all of us a big favour. Scrolling down mega-quotes reminds me too much of ANN or Bounty threads...

-snip-

-snip-
(By clicking it you'll be redirected to the quoted post)

Just found 5 of them on the first 4 pages...
In addition, this project looks like it's pushed by shills

This is quite a good bump, this post would be very useful to recent newbies who are yet to read it.
There should be extra emphasis on newbies reading through the important threads on the various boards, there are some very helpful link compilations, that contains very useful threads.

I think that one useful thing would be for beginners asking questions to make their threads self-moderating. They could then delete the spam posts,

Agree with it, but problem is most of newbie don't know about self moderated thread (IMO). I think I should make thread about it and explain benifits of selfmoderatrd thread to avoid spam. Or if there is others thread than it should be up.
This is what theymos said about the "self-moderated thread" at the introduction.

In most sections, you now have the option of marking topics self-moderated when creating them. In self-moderated topics, the OP can delete replies. The option for enabling this is under "additional options". Topics cannot be converted to self-moderated topics after creation.

There are no rules to self-moderation. In self-moderated threads, replies belong to the OP. In other threads, replies belong to the respondents individually. Think carefully about whether you want to reply to a self-moderated topic, as your post may not be given due respect.

People who willing to start a self-moderated thread, just put the tick for the self-moderated option under Additional options before posting.

AFAIK, the main advantage of self-moderated threads is you can have healthy conversations or discussions without getting diluted by spam posts.

The main disadvantage of the self-moderated threads is some people can use this as a tool for shutting down the opposite ideas or disagreement posts to the OP and giving false conclusions for other members(readers) by highlighting only the posts that agree with OP's opinion.

When I quoting theymos' reply it showing me this message and is this newly added feature or is this the first time I have seen this warning message? BTW that's a very good feature. - sorry for going somewhat off-topic OP

This forum is a community of people with a similar interest, namely Bitcoin. If you participate in the daily discussions and you contribute constructively, then you would be helping the community. A constructive post will add a lot of value, not just for the community, but also for people who Googled something and ended up here.  Wink

So the bigger picture is, to add value to everyone that wants to learn something about Bitcoin. We are building a valuable source of information about the technology that we love!

Another really useful trick is to close the thread once you question has been answered. This will avoid it becoming a spamfest as the spammers keep repeating the previously posted answers.

Exactly, I already mentioned it on avoid spam row. Thread could be locked after got appropriate answer in order to avoid spam. Usually people's just make similar answer if thread isn't locked.  So it will be most helpful.

If you have any question search before you make post and you should lock thread after got answers. So other people's will not able to spam on your thread. Don't reply if you don't have proper knowledge according to main thread.

I think that one useful thing would be for beginners asking questions to make their threads self-moderating. They could then delete the spam posts, and turn their threads into really useful resources. Please avoid starting threads about bounty, ICOs, or other underworld topics on the beginners' board. I know it may be a bit daunting for a new member to consider deleting posts, but the spam bots are not going to penalise you for it.

To be honest we are all getting benefits from this forum. It could be money, knowledge or experience. But what we are contribute for forum? What is our role to improve forum? Did you think ? You shouldn't help to improve and build a decent forum? I think there is so many option to help and build a decent forum that we could keep our roles.

This post especially dedicated for newbie

I don't know if there is others similar post but everyone have different opinion. So I will describe my own opinion how can we help and build a decent forum;

Introduce new people's:
Somehow this forum introduced to us by others. May be our friends, family or other social media. This forum created by satoshi to introduced and expands knowledge about Bitcoin. So we can help this forum by introducing new people's in order to build a strong community of Bitcoin. Although currently many alt coin board is here to discuses about others cryptocurrency. So by inviting new members you can spread the word about cryptocurrency on the world and build a strong community.

Follow rules & Explain rules;
First we have to follow forum rules for build a decent forum. Once you invite or introduce someone you should explain him/her about forum rules. Don't just invite for earn money, they should meet the rules of this forum. This is the most important thing for this forum. A newbie should know about rules, spam, merit system, trust system and others. It can't possible to make a decent forum without following rules. This is your responsibility to explain all the thing once you invite someone's. You can read all important post
[GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread, so it will be more easy to explain others.

Avoid spam:
We should avoid spam ourselves, before posting any board we must read pin post. Spamming is the main problem now in this forum. People's just replying unnecessary for signature or for increase activity. Our reply should constructive according to original post. We should avoid relying or posting those think already discussed on this forum. In case if you made a post that are discussed already before and someone mention you, you should locked or delete the topic in order to avoid further spam. If you have any question search before you make post and you should lock thread after got answers. So other people's will not able to spam on your thread. Don't reply if you don't have proper knowledge according to main thread.

Report spam:
You can see there is option report to moderator on right bottom of every post. Use it once you found spam post. If you find any post that are against of forum rules then help forum by reporting moderator. Once you report a post moderators will handle it. Lot of important discussion lose for spamming. You can report easily from patrol, especially newbie spammers. You can follow this post how to report and when you should report. [Guide] Reporting effectively

Report corruption:
Lot of corruption occurring on forum, you can identify them and post on Reputation to take appropriate action by moderators and default trusted(DT) member's. Like bounty cheater, merit abuser, scammer and others which is against of forum rules. Since there are many scam ICO on this forum, you can report it on Scam Accusation board. So people's can save their money from scammers. You can read this thread how to identify scam ICO.

Share your knowledge and Help others:
You can help people's by sharing your knowledge and experience. It's not important a person should have knowledge on every subject but which subject you know best just share it with community. May be someone will learn from you. But it should be crypto related knowledge. Off topic are not much important and you should avoid it. If you want discuss off topic there is a board for off-topic. If if you have best idea to improve this forum you can suggest to meta. But it should be helpful for forum.

Hand over your smerit:
Whoever are making quality or useful topic they are receiving merit from others and obviously they deserve it. So if you one of them(received merits) then please don't hold your smerit, just handover to others by send merit on quality post. If you not found quality post then at least spend your smerit on good post. Holding your smerit is not any benefit for you. So please try to help others especially to low rank.

Default Tust (DT) member selection: *New*
Forum give us opportunities to choose DT member ourselves. As well as you know DT members help keep forum safe and clean, especially from scammers. You can keep your role on selection of DT members if you already earned more then 10 merits. You can vote a person for selection of DT if you earned 10 merit. So if you earned 50 merit you can vote 5 people's. For more details you can read DefaultTrust changes. How can you vote ? It's very simple, just go to your Trust Settings, add the name on empty box taht you like to vote and click "Update". So help forum by selecting DT members whoever deserve according to your opinions.

However, never mind if you are not agree with me. I just share my own opinion.
