I dont know if it is just me or others also experience it. I always set goals financially, set limits in spending and trying hard to save but most of the time no matter how i tell myself to refrain from spending in unnecessary things whenever i see something i really like even if i dont need it i cant resist buying it that cause me to regret later. Are you familiar with this situation?

Self discipline and proper budgeting is the secret to a healthy and wealthy life. I get rid of spending too much for unnecessary things by buying only the things that I need and following the budget list that I have set for the whole month. I always control my self of spending too much because I always think of the future.

Discipline. That is the main solution for that. You need to discipline yourself in spending things that is not necessary for you. You must know what things are need to be prioritize. Set limits in yourself if you can't then have a discipline. There is no excuse if you really what to change. Control yourself.

Agree Self discipline is the key to keep yourself from spending. Be firm with your goal. Set aside your savings and monthly expenses during paydays. spend only what is the remaining money because it also feels good to reward yourself by spending for what you love.

Well you have to find other ways if you can't seem to discipline yourself though. Let someone you trust handle your money for you. That way you wouldn't have to worry about controlling yourself. But that's for severe scenarios already. You have to know your financial boundaries and how to prioritize things

Well, it is definitely not just you, a lot of people have the same problem, you are not alone. I personally have the same concerns and issues, I wanted to save but them if there is this sale or promo, it really would make me feel that I need to buy even if I don't need it. I had to make sure that I have limited access to my funds, I got rid of my credit cards, whenever I get my paycheck, I would take the money for my savings and investments first before all the bills and expences, so I would be just spending the money I have left. Then I would have that conscious effort that I should be just spending on what I need not what I want, recognizing and bucketing them into wants and needs, I only buy what I need. Self discipline and you need a buddy or partner in doing it so you will have a constant reminder. At first I was a total mess but then after a while, you will get used to it. I still buy myself a little something every now and then as a reward but then I am glad I was able to overcome that stage in my life.

You can always think of your goal each day and what are the hindrance on your goal, in this way you can avoid to spend your money on unnecessary things like using excess money.

well it is hard  Cheesy but when you have all necessary things already you can ignore buying unnecessary things.  think this ; if you go to supermarket when you are hungry, you buy so many stupid things like crisps chocolates candy bars etc. but when you are not hungry you dont buy that many things.
If you truly want to stop buying stuff you really don't need then this might have the potential to change your life. You've heard about curbing your impulse buys by 24 or 48 hours, but I say put a solid four days between you and the pretty little thing in question. Why? Because it's about the same amount of time it takes for someone to get over a crush.

I think there is a few good ways to prevent yourself from spending money on unnecessary things, you could try to leave your credit cards at home whenever you travel to the shopping mall to shop for your daily necessities and another way is to invest your extra money into crypto-currencies for the long term.

I know how it feels to have money, that is why even though I am earning an enormous amount of money in cryptocurrency investment, trading and bounties, I make sure that I will not experience having no money again. Maybe that is why I am able to keep my self from unnecessary over spending.

You can always look at your self and think of something that you really want to achieve in order to think if purchasing unnecessary things will really make you improve even more in life.
Yeah it is good to share with other people that how you earn and how you have mange your time, don’t buy everything what you need but try to buy those things which are only important. We want to spend a huge amount of money for our priority but there are a lot of things that we want to purchase for fun, just try to avoid it don’t buy unnecessary goods make a list while going market and buy important only don’t spend more than your earning.

Super familiar, when times that happens no matter how hard I tried to avoid it in the end I am going home with that unnecessary thing. Now I am trying not to be tempted to go somewhere else, so after work I make sure I will go home directly with that I am helping my self not to make such expenses. And hopefully I can do it for a long period of time. Hoping.
Don't spend a money with unimpotant thing because nowadays its too difficult to earn good moneys aside for that its too pressure for our health instead of that, we can start saving for the sake in future and spend in important needs like buying some stocks of foods .Don't waste a money because we are getting older ,we used our earnings for our health and financing family needs.

Count your blessings. First and foremost, being grateful—not just for possessions, but also for the people, places and simple pleasures in life—is good for the soul. But an attitude of gratitude is also a proven antidote to impulse purchasing because it creates a sense of abundance within the individual. When you’re feeling full of gratitude, you’re less likely to subconsciously try to fill emotional holes by treating yourself with gifts and accumulating more stuff.

Buy good quality—and use it. Perhaps counterintuitively, I’ve found that it’s common for people to almost never use the things they love the most—a favorite pair or jeans, a vintage Mustang—and that give them the most pleasure. Why? Often, it’s because they want to protect the item in question, because they like it so much and don’t want it to be ruined. Instead of using their favorites regularly, they buy cheaper things—sometimes knockoff imitations—for “everyday” use. The unfortunate result is less satisfaction, and that lack of satisfaction often leads to more buying in the misguided hope that some new item will make us happier. In a similar vein, many people spend more money on an outfit they wear once for a special occasion than they spend the entire year on clothing they use every week, such as workout wear, jeans, or sneakers. The smarter approach is to put your money where you’ll see it in action and enjoy it the most, thereby reducing purchasing cravings.

Yes i also feel the same way as you did sometimes i buy things that was not really needed because i wanted to save it for future usage but in the end i just find it useless because it never comes to a point that i've been enjoying on using it.I want to change this kind of attitude and now that im older enough and already have kids as well i try to be more responsible to set my priorities from my needs and wants.

Some of the best ways that worked for me were:

1. Wait a day or two before actually making the purchase.
2. Write down or think through your head if you'll actually be using these things on a regular basis.
3. Look at your monthly expenses and see if you're going over budget.
4. Is it a luxury? Will it impact my financial well-being?

I think 1 and 2 work the best for most people Smiley

I think that even "unimportant" things are also important for you. If this brings you pleasure, why not? Living by strict rules is boring, just don't go to extremes stop regretting about the little things.

Yes i also experience, actually most of the times, spending on unimportant things which affect my budget. I am an impulsive buyer so i also but even things that are not actually needed. And for me to avoid that habit, i refrain from going to malls or looking on online shop to avoid getting tempted.

Just buy it when i have extra money i keep prioritizing our neccessity than my wants.. I keep telling myself that the money i spend with unimportant things can buy our 1week food or can pay our bills..  I just treat myself when i know i provided all our needs for the whole month and get extra.. But oftentimes i save it rather than spend it..  Well we're different people here but it is important to set the needs over wants..

The only thing that you probably can't refrain yourself from spending on are the basic necessities like food, house upkeep and the likes but when it starts tending towards frivolities and excesses that's when you need the real control. I did say that not having enough money too can help you from spending  on unimportant things; so do put a cap to the earnings/cash you make available to yourself thereby creating the illusion of being broke to yourself.
