I had gamble in the past and i were able to make something like 140% from my investment, at those moment i should had stopped gamble, i becamed greedy and i risked the earnings, and lost, them i risked my investment and lost all, the real problem is to know when we should stop trying to recovery or trying bigger rewards, the false feeling of having lucky.
I doubt there is limit for someone who gambles. When you are in that moment you cant stop it. Specially, when you are already winning or losing a lot of money. You want to get it back when losing and you want more when winning. That is all greed.
That's why you need to be wise and controllable while gambling or you will lose all your money. The more you trying to return what you have lost, the more money you lose. You must clearly determine when, why, and how long you gambling in a day, as well as know what the limit is so that you can easily shut down the gambling activity

When you get your daily limit or daily profit then you need to stop playing gambling well gambling is not all about making profit it's just enjoying the moment when you are with your friends sometime having fun is really good but sometime limitation is really good when you are going to set a goal in life. 
One stops gambling when they don’t have money anymore. Me, I stop gambling when I realized it is not me. I am not the type of person who will risk my hard earned money just by luck. I tried it still, but on the second time I managed to stop because I realized it is not me. I realized there are still other ways to improve my life and to save money. It's so easy for me to stop especially when I gain some profit but when I faced a long red streaks, my mind keep telling me that "the next roll will be green" and I forced to chase my previous lost and ended with zero balance very often. I think the best time to stop is when we had an "unlucky feeling". Its hard to explain but I guess most people ever faced this feeling. The time when you made a bunch of decisions and most of them are the wrong decisions.
Well, I'll quit when I was tired of playing, and when I'm winning. well, maybe I'll never stop playing when I lost, and until my money runs out. No mate, the OP is asking while you are playing gambling how do you know when to stop your play. Means if we play continues end of the day we will lose everything. So what I will do means I will fix one limit amount for both profit and loss, if I reach that amount we will stop my play, If we have self-control then only it is possible. Otherwise our greedy will not allow stopping in the middle of the game. Maybe just stop because of bored. Sometimes gambling can be a boring game and that is the time when you have to stop.

Set a daily limit instead of a daily goal in terms of amount. When the goal is the amount pegged -- then it is going to be an uphill battle.

I agree with this, but only few people can do this. Most of them can't control themselves when gambling and they end winning nothing, but just losing more. They want to earn more as much as they want because in gambling it is possible to become rich in it. But that is not happening that often. It only happens to some lucky people from one in a million of them.
Actually i don't have any limit when to stop and this is bad as i might lose a lot, i usually stop when i feel that i ran out of my luck so i don't try anymore to win
That's really good way to stop the gambling as you said, Because it is better to play and the next bet when you realize may be you can't win it again, so better is that stop it in that time, But many time i saw, people continuously playing the gambling and in the end they said, they have lost everything.
