As an average user, I would say maybe 2-3 receive but a lot more send addresses.

I'm currently switching to a new computer and had about 35 receive addresses but I am a miner.

Now down to about 5...

I just have less than 4 address.

Used them for sig campaign, faucet earnings, and investment earning

Try to make it different , just to easy to manage them. Avoid confusing

Why do addresses constantly get created anyway?  Basically everytime I make a transaction they get created!

I don't even know how many addresses I have, it is a ton though.  Everytime I do a transaction pretty much I get a new Address so they can pile up quick after 1 full year(almost) of using Bitcoin!

!! HODL !!
as the title states, whats the average number of wallet addresses per bitcoin user? With the ability to trace transactions and link people together based on publically posted keys, I know many people (including myself) have generated unique addresses for nearly all transactions just to be safe. My guess is somewhere around 40-50 addresses at this point in time.. what are your guy's thoughts?

Not counting the addresses on the trading exchanges, I have about 20 addresses.

They are not all being used right now, because I switch to new addresses every now and then (but I do keep backup of all old addresses I've used). I may create 10 new addresses every month.

Relax!
I guess there are a lot of people who only have 1 single address they do everything with! Cheesy I know this defeats the purpose of BTC, since everyone now can trace you and you also get confused with all the transactions over time, I think...

Well with HD wallet, practically I make sure every transaction ends up with different address. Mainly that is for privacy purpose. If the number of addresses are completely exhausted, I'll create another new wallet with a new seed. That is main reason why I don't go for vanity address.

For people who use electrum, new addresses are generated every time an address is used.
You start off with at least 8 addresses. I guess I would have twice that now.

I have keys for about 10-15 addresses, some of them are in use, some are empty. If you count those which are associated with me like deposit addresses on gambling sites, exchanges and so on... I might have over 50.

Bitcoin businesses are the heavy users of addresses. They must go through thousands of addresses each year  Huh

with HD wallet, you have 1 adress for every transaction ... so count is irrelevant, now  Grin
