I have only one bitcoin wallet because I am pretty new here and do not have much experience about bitcoin. I have the only one wallet where I keep my bitcoin that I earn from signature campaign or buying bitcoin directly.

Now I have 2 options for my BTC :
it's priority option: destop wallet (using as cold storage- main wallet)
second option: blockchain.info wallet online for investing .
Use whatever makes you comfortable, we all need to safety our bitcoins as that is money, when we loss it because of our negligence we might lost our interest in pursuing our investment, just use a very safe wallet and cold wallet is one of them. I like your idea that you also invest and that is actually encourage here to grow our money.

for a beginner I suggest having at least 3 wallets:
one wallet on your HDD (paper wallet as an option) as main wallet to store funds, protect it properly
secondary online wallet like blockchain.info or holytransaction -DO NOT keep large sums of money there
and I wonder why XAPO (xapo.com) wallet is mentioned so rarely here?
I suggest you use it as a third wallet,as it has many useful features and sends transactions with a low to no fee at all!
xapo wallet does have some annoying register process, but once you are in you can enjoy one of the most secure online wallets out there
if you are trading actively-you can store some dust at exchanges, just don't use their addresses as a storage

Multiple wallets just depends on what you need to use them for.  Online and smartphone wallets are the most accessible if you are on the go, but nothing has the security of your own wallet.  Online wallets can be subjected to hacks and phones can be physically stolen much more easily than the HD of your computer.

It's not a bad idea to have 2, one as a spending account which is less secure but more easily accessible, and another high security account where you keep large amounts of 'savings'.

i think it is useful to have two or more bitcoin wallet if you have bitcoins or other altcoin in bulk amount becausr if one is temporarily out of servive then you can use another without stop your work like trading ,buying & selling .
since i have only 0.28 btc now but i have only one bitcoin wallet which is official blockchain.info .
since you are newbie so i will suggest you to use coinbase because it is free of transaction charge .

Hey guys, so I am a newbie and i saw some of members here have multiple bitcoin wallets , why is that? do i need to make multiple bitcoin wallets as a beginner ?

I think that even with only one wallet is enough for people but because of lots of hacks recently I think we should use 2 wallets.

What i prefer to do is to have one as the hot wallet where we use it for everyday or every week use.

And another one (preferably) a hardware wallet which we can use as a cold storage and as a hot wallet for a rarer use.
Can you explain what a hardware wallet gets you interested to such level that you prefer to use it?

I don't really see the need for a hardware wallet as it only adds extra cost.

You can just save your secured wallet files in a CD, USB, HDD, and the list goes on. And this is free since people have these things already at home.
Many prefer hardware wallets as there is less chances of losing the coins and the wallet getting hacked. I agree about the cost but those who earn or hold over 10-15 BTC prefer using hardware wallets (like the ones who hold coins for this forum and own over 250 BTC). For them, it's useful but not for us or those who hold less coins for their use.

i think it is useful too for us that holding small amount. I never stock my btc in online wallet for long time because i heard some complain to other user that there wallet
is ban because they deposit btc from gambling site. That triggers me to avoid online wallet and download hard wallet because i always gambling and it is too risky to stock my btc. I dont like to use mixer because it requires fee and my btc is very small for that procedure. So i think hardware wallet is the best.

I think I have registered for about 7 wallets but only really use 3 main ones so not to hold all my eggs in one basket as they say.
Doing so would comprise what you have and just like with money if you have it stashed away under your mattress you will lose it all if a thief comes and robs you or the house burns down. Now that would be the most likely scenario too happen if you rely just on one wallet to hold all your bitcoin in. Lips sealed
I too own 10 wallets and keep about 25% in the ones I trust the most and remaining coins in others. With the increase in wallets getting hacked easily, I stopped using apps too and have a physical bitcoin wallet. I guess paper wallets are much more reliable than software wallets but if one particular wallet shuts down, it will still be a loss for us.

You really dont  many wallet and it depends  on how  you would use it, if you have many transaction then create another its really depends on persons reference if he would create or not. Some may only create  one so that  it wouldnt be hassle on future transaction but other likes to make a new one on what  purpose  he would made. I do have  only 2 wallet  which is blockchain.info and coins.ph
