I think it is no way to got the actual number of how many people using or holding bitcoin, because there are no indicators to count, lots of the users are hidden and there is probability that one user create multiple wallets, so we really can't count it, and i agree that bitcoin user is still just a small percentage of world populations

Let’s talk about considering the percentage of world population. I am sure the percentage of bitcoin users is less than even 0.50% people around the world and rest 99.50% still using cash / fiat (and some in 0.50% too) so we have a long way to go towards the concept of money 2.0. Bitcoin will be one of the major payment solution in next few years but still it might take a decade or two for bitcoin to become a truly global currency.

Im interested to know how many people are actually now involved in the bitcoin world, Is there anyway to find out a rough idea of the user base so that we can come to a conclusion on what kind of adoption we are currently at? It seems difficult to gauge since this forum alone has several duplicate accounts from the same people.

. /r/bitcoin has 180k subs to it so would it be safe to assume if we included all miners, users holders and whoever else that we are still at under 1 million users? If this is the case then we still have a long way to go.

Does anyone have any more accurate guesses or way to determine the market?

It will always be a wild guess and the exact figure will never be known.

Yeah, bitcoin price prediction as well the user prediction can just be guessed, making exact number is impossible. Several threads have been running based upon the user profile count. I believe these number is increasing gradually. By the time of next halving we can expect the users to get increase to at least a 10% growth.

It's really difficult to quantity the number of people cause it's just increasing and increasing, I feel anywhere between 5-8 million would be my guess, cause it's popularity has increased 10 fold. Every one is on it as they get more aware of its power. However to get a fix number is difficult if not impossible. May I know what specific use is this to you.

My guess is that the number of users is somewhere from 5 to 10 million users.
Bitcointalk.org is now closing up to have 1 million users.
A lot of bitcoin users start here, I suppose at least 10%. That would make a total number ot 10 million btc users.
If the percentege in my calculation goes up, the total number of users would decrease.

It's hard to tell because there are no existing data or figures, all experts can only predict or estimate, even I can't come out with a rough estimate because every users can have as many wallets as he desires, but hopefully one tool will come out to give us the right figure..

The moment that there are actual counting of the numbers of users is that time when there is one registered wallet per individual. That time the government has its eyes and places regulations and policies pertaining the use of bitcoin. It will also includes monitoring of transactions to check illicit activities and also for taxation. So for me i dont care if we know or not how many users there are in bitcoin world as long as I am earning.

very many user , may be can see from wallet . because each user certainly wallet
may be >4 millions in the world
That is not a reliable basis to estimate the total number of users of bitcoin since one person can make as many wallets as he want and just leave it untouched after making such wallet. There's no way we can have a close estimate on how many real users of bitcoin but one thing is certain is we are growing in numbers.

What you are telling is true about we cannot estimate the number of users of bitcoin not only each person using multi wallets but also each transaction uses single wallet address and the wallet generates new address for another transaction. So it is highly impossible to tell the estimate of users of bitcoin.

The main point is now the Bitcoin users have increased in 10 times more then 2 yrs back and we can see double speed growth in coming years

I think we're actually over 10 million people in the world using Bitcoin. 4 million seems to be a too small number for the number of ATMs and businesses that rely on Bitcoin that exist in the world. We are millions but from different countries, which makes Bitcoin look like it's not popular at all.

It is not easy to calculate. A good article (Feb 2014) http://bitscan.com/bitnews/item/how-many-people-really-own-bitcoins-and-why-does-it-matter considered that there were 500,000 users and foresaw a growth rate of 100-fold in the medium term future. Home screen of blockchain wallet https://blockchain.info/wallet/#/ claims that has 8+ million wallets but how many of them are active assuming that many bitcoin users open a wallet (especially web wallet) only to test it?

Well almost 50% user are keeping their money on hold because after july halving price fluctuation is quit low and many might had thought to sell after halving but unfortunately there was no price hike so they might had have kept their money on hold. But before halving there was quit instability in bitcoin price and I think more buying and selling took place in that period of time.

I don't know about other people how many they actually are in figures who are using or holding Bitcoin in 2016. I will talk about me only as I am holding 6 Bitcoins and still whenever see possibility buy slowly slowly in cents. I hope I will b eable to collect couple of more before it reaches all time high in coming months.

Most likely there are no figures to say this because you can have 100 wallets as a example so its hard to tell how many people are using it nowadays.

Other than Blockchain.info wallet, I think a site like Freebitco.in can give us a closer range of the number of Bitcoin users(at least the users who are actually interested in Bitcoin and deal with it or they wouldn't give a damn about the site, right?). The site has more than 3.35 Million registered members And I can assure you that this number is quite solid because the site is very restricted about multiple accounts. IF anyone tries to create another account he/she will get blocked on the registering page telling him/her "account is banned due to same IP Address used by an existing member" and if anyone uses a Proxy or VPN will also get blocked. I tested making another account on the site more than once and i failed. Unless changing IP Address(like using another computer or smartphone with a different internet connection than the one you currently have), you cannot make another account. So let's assume that all the 3.35 Million are real people, i can safely say that Bitcoin users/holders are between 3-5 Million users which is quite good!  Cheesy

blockchain.info wallet claims they have over 7 million users, right on the wallet homepage.

As you already told, one person can have several accounts, but I believe it is safe to assume at least 3-5 million users tried Bitcoin for short amount of time. Coinbase has at least million accounts as well, and these are verified by government isued ID - so pretty much these numbers represents real people.

I agree with you. the data shows that there are over 7 million users, but I am not sure either that the users are different for each wallet. probably some wallet is owned by a person, or there are many people forget their private keys or forget their password, so they create new wallet. that makes the users increase, but in fact amount of people using the wallet does not reach 7 million at all.

I think some value between 1 million and 1.5 million seems to be a reasonable number, if you ask me. On the other hand, a value in the range of two million seems to be unrealistic, in my opinion, since Bitcoin is still in its early stages of expansion, with few merchants adopting the currency, hence few customers. This is likely to change, given the potential of it.

I think 2 millions of persons at this moment... Just a supposition.

It's not a big number, and I'm supposing it, because we don't have a very big traffic on forum. Of course this is the best and biggest forum about crypto-currencies, but if the BTC was really being used in mass by world population, we would see more members here.

And I believe anyone who isn't a newbie on this world, have an account on Bitcoin Talk Forum, no?
