I just wanted to know that, what amount of risk is there in investing in bitcoins.
Right now i am planning to buy btc approx 3-4 btc and just hold them as i guess the price of bitcoin will increase in future and i will get some good profit. But i want to know what is the risk involved. Can bitcoin price decrease and is this right time to buy the bitcoin.
The answer will depend on how long are you willing to hold, do you want to hold for years then buying at any moment is fine, but if you don’t want to wait but a few months  then I think it is better for you to wait for the price to get lower.
That's a good way, but if you have strong plans of investing then when the price falls don't get panic, thinking whether it will grow again. Without any distraction just buy that you can afford, if you feel investing is not much secure. Because you can profit when price starts to pump forward.

Do not ever invest anything that you can't afford to lose - that's the same as everything.

Especially bitcoin, it is a high risk investment. How much risk? Well, just look at the recent history of bitcoin price. You'll see bitcoin prices going +100 dollars or -100 dollars in a few hours, sometimes even more exaggerated.

I'd say that keeping $5,000 in bitcoin won't hurt.

It'll serve as a hedge against fiat currencies collapsing, and even if bitcoin goes to $100 a coin, you won't be losing out on that much.
When you consider a lot of the instability with the geopolitical games being played these days, having Bitcoin is definitely a good thing since you're looking at a lot of potential for rapid inflation and other economic damage being done on what is essentially a hair trigger response. Diversifying out of fiat and into more assets of value is something to take into consideration for most people who don't have other assets they would want to keep in mind.
A lot of fiat currencies, while strong against each other, are propped up and only a domino or two can take down the whole system.

In my opinion when investing in bitcoin don't risk what can you not afford to loose. Just like in gambling. I have various experience in the past like putting all your money in one investment then suddenly the site became scam! Just beware. Review first the site before investing bitcoins.

The risks in bitcoin investments are so high, you can either become rich or get poor at a glance. Behind the high risks Bitcoin makes you get rich quick, I myself think only of its advantages and try to minimize the loss

i agree. in just a snap of a finger, you may gain or you may lose..
anyway, what are those advantages you were thinking and what do you do for you to minimize your lose? any chance of explaining further?

i believe that the advantages mentioned was about the decentralization of bitcoin where it cannot be touched by the governmen, another is the volatility of bitcoin where bitcoin's value increases or decreases over time (just focus on the increase part). Thinking that way, it will give investors courage to invest in bitcoin.

As for the minimization of risk, only invest on trusted project by checking their credibility or if they have escrows that are reputable in this forum or on other forum. Having caution will always reduce risk I would say.
This decentralized form is the actual beauty of the bitcoin. This is what that makes the bitcoin different from the other currencies we have. Also it’s feature of earning Bitcoins in the way we are distinguishes it from the others and the dream of many people becoming rich with the bitcoin can only be possible with it. No one can earn in the way like they earn the Bitcoin. I don’t find it that risky at all.

I feel that investing into bitcoin is not too risky. Well, some of the risks you might get may be, the prices are unstable, and the fees are great. But it can be minimized if you're great in trading. But I also believe that bitcoin prices will continue to rise.

I agree with you perfectly, investing in Bitcoin is like investing in any other commodity and so you assume the same amount of risk however Bitcoin has withstood the test of time and with all the negative propaganda has still proven to rise in prices (indicating support and demand for it) and so Bitcoin no matter how low it might fall will also encourage its investors that it has what it takes to rise again.

There are risks, and they are higher than investments in other goods. The price of bitcoin may vary greatly. We often see recessions and growth. This is the main risk of investing in bitcoin
I would call this average risk or rather a small risk

There is risk in all investments you will ever make. Of course bitcoin also has a risk that it made get banned around the globe and people will start selling all their coins and price may crash. Another risk is maybe you are using a online wallet which is trusted from years and they suddenly steal all the bitcoins and run away or maybe you maybe getting a pretty high loss as the price crashed and it is barely growing

In every investment there is risk but in this case I can say the risk is very low. Everytime is the right time to buy bitcoin, you can see the past statistics about bitcoin value. It grew over time. If you don't buy today you will regret later. The price is likely to increase, and there is no chance of falling in the near future. Good luck
I agree with you. It's not wonder that Bitcoin is the best investment. As risk not a new word in investment so we should make our every step safe to become a success. Bitcoin not only dominate but the prices of BTC is now headlining, coming week/year there higher chance to increase. However, Bitcoin a pretty safe long-term investment.

Investing in bitcoin is really a good idea, however, we need to look at where we want to invest. Because bitcoin is very free, it is not legally bound, which also makes us susceptible to scams, there are many forms of fraud for bitcoin users. HYIP and Ponzi are a good example, and they are very popular in the market. So, be careful before you want to invest in anything.

Bitcoin was a risky investment back in 2012-13 and many went in tears back in 2014 when it surge down to $400 from $1300. But it is no longer risky, it is very promising investment now and everybody is capable to make profits nowadays no matter when invested!!

In fact buying at the current value might be too risky, would be better thing into something wich can bring you some bitcoins with time and dedication, some service like dice, casino, exchange or something similiar those, but well sure the reward for crypto world is huge if you have some lucky i would buy some altcoins at the moment instead bitcoin.

Investing in bitcoin is very risky and we all know that because we cannot control the price of bitcoin when you invest in bitcoin you dont really know if the bitcoin price is going up or going down so that's very risky.

In my opinion, the risk is still reasonable. Because indeed in all investments there is always a risk. Depending on the risk is large or small, if the bitcoin price movement is considered a threat. So I think it is a small threat. But if we lose bitcoin because investing in HYIP site then it is a big risk.

No, investing in bitcoin is a smart choice. Bitcoin is like all kinds of securities, its value is not regulated by anyone, it depends on the general market of the world. If you look back at the history of its development, you can easily see the power of it, which makes a sustainable and stable bitcoin for a long time. And moreover, bitcoin is growing, it's a coin that we can invest.
It's not what point he is pertaining. What he meant is that bitcoin is risky due to volitality. However, you have a point that because bitcoin has a huge foundation, it can last longer which is a big consideration for an investor to invest in such investment/coin.

Re: How much risk in bitcoin investment ?

I think we can not estimate how much in terms of percentage but it depends on the market flow. Also it depends on how much you invest in bitcoin. Big investment would means big losses if there is slump in price and vice versa  it appreciates a big profit also.

If you planned to hold it for short term then the risk is small, but if you planned to hold it for 10 or 20 years maybe that a bit risky, as we know bitcoin still in growing process so anything can happened, maybe it can grow stronger or maybe can be replaced by other coin, but I more believe that bitcoin will grow stronger in future, that is why I think holding bitcoin as investment is a good idea, just don't put all your wealth in bitcoin, invest in different form is better

its good to hold for short term but i think its more good enough if you hold it for at least 1-2 years from now because we are know that bitcoin is something new in our world and many people predicted that bitcoin has a good chance to be future payment and money for future so i think at least i can save my bitcoin as investment like many other people. i am agree with xuan87 said that don't put all of our wealth in bitcoin, we need to spread it into many investment so if our investment is grow, we can get profit.

Bitcoin really is good for investing now that the price is very remarkable right now it is good to wait for the price to storm up if you have a save bitcoin in your wallet, but if not try to earn from sources in this forum a bit, to get bitcoin so you can surely join in the investing well spreading your bitcoin in Altcoins is great too you can accumulate a lot if the price of that altcoin would definitely go up.
