Lurk around here for a bit. Spend a few hours reading everything on the first page of the general sections. If you have a little more time, read the oldest threads too, as in the ones on the last page, you'll get a glimpse of the past. But do not post in those threads, check the dates, you don't want to resurrect a thread that has not had a reply in 5 years, that is called necroposting.

Ask other questions here, and I'm sure some of the more experienced members will help out.

Enjoy your stay and learn.

Hmm, there are so many things you want to know but of course we can't explain all about this forum from top to bottom because it will take so much time to do that. Besides, I hate spoonfeeding so I think much better if you try first figuring out by your own Smiley.

My advice for you is to read all the pinned posts on every board you visit. It surely helps. Another, try familiarizing the interface of our forum, the tabs, buttons and the codes used for replying as well. Oh! Another tip, if making random questions in the main boards makes you feel intimidated then start first inside your local board Smiley. Good luck, I know you can get used to it sooner or later. You make it! Welcome!

So there is a special section in which all newcomers can get comfortable and leave their questions there about the forum. Is it forbidden?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0
After all, it is quite difficult to raise your rank if you do not participate in the discussions.
No, but they must spend more their time on beginner annd help section and Meta.
It's better than your account get nuked/permanent ban, you won't be able to participate in any of discussion forever.

I don't know why you think this forum is different from other forums. Basically, they all work the same way.
There are few differences like the merit system, trust... you have to know about them but it is not really a big deal.

To communicate with others all you have to do is to join conversations you find interesting and share your thoughts or ask questions if you have any.
Enjoy your time being here  Smiley

Why do you not begin from this?
Help Page
Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ
You can find out more from that topic: Newbies - Read before posting
Some of them are:
FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit
Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?)
All of those topics are pinned ones. You can see more pinned topics on other boards when you visit and familiarise yourself with the forum. I think pinned topics are the most important ones to read when you join any boards.

Guess thats the best way for start into the Forum and you will find a lot of Information when youst look around or use the Search field when you looking for something special.
Welcome to the Forum , hope you enjoy it as long you can and watch out what kind of Links you click when its something to download .
Sometimes you should check links 2 or 3 times before you click it !

A knowledge sharing platform with rules for discipline and merits for appreciation.

One who grows here and helps other to grow will get a fair opportunity level up and the one who comes for spamming or promotion stuff only, will be taken care by the moderators.

There are different session for avoiding confusions. Utilising the session in a right way is the key to get better responses on your query.

Search for topics before you ask as there might be already threads answering/addressing your query or topic.

Well it kind of Works differently depending on the perspective you take upon the forum. If your main interest is in simply earning a quick bunch of tokens (at this stage "bucks" may be an overstatement), and in order to do so, you go around posting quick thoughtless posts, then the goal may be met, but not much else. These sort of posters do tend to communicate in short, not necessarily on topic, kind of manner, with a tendency to post as if this was a quick succession of chat-like style posts.

Others take a more versed approach to their contributions, and go the extra mile to perform some research to back their arguments, laying them out in posts that are either informative or constitutive of a solid opinion. Those are rather much more scarce, but tend to have a better lane to ranking-up, if that is of any importance to you (it does have it’s perks, so as to say).

The above is consciously an over simplification, but enables me to confront two different apporaches that normally have different outcomes. I’ve got a feeling you may fall into the latter category, simply because your OP is already more bulk and content favoured than most that fall into the former category. Since you know the rules, whatever path you take is up to you, and will largely depend on your inner capabilities, time, and objectives (if any).

All you have to do is write only on a specific topic. There is no need to leave meaningless short posts, especially in a short period of time, because then probably the moderator will simply delete your message. As for the forum, I am surprised why you have not seen similar ones before, because a very old engine is used here.
For newbie or anyone who still new on this forum, i wouldn't recommend to write anything. Mostly they are only posting something which will lead into spam. If they are keep doing that, they could be get banned or nuked by moderators/admins. They must read more and post less, understand with all of rules on this forum before start to post something.

It is a Crypto discussion forum. You can gain more knowledge about Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Also, you can share your knowledge about Crypto here. If you have any doubts, you can ask your question and clear your doubts here. Read the Forum rules pinned on different sections of the forum. Once you understand the Forum rules, you can go ahead and start posting. Based on the quality of your post, you can earn merits from the community members. You can Rank up based on the merits earned and activities.

Welcome to the discussion forum!!  Smiley

Welcome aboard!

The forum is divided in several parts or sub boards. The one on the top is the Bitcoin board. Only discussions related to Bitcoin are posted in the Bitcoin sub boards. As you can see there are several Bitcoin related sections or child boards or simply boards with different names. Under every name there is a short explanation what the aim of that section is. Bitcoin discussion is self explanatory, slowly you will get used to the rest.

Slowly make your way down from the top to the bottom. There is the Economy section that deals with anything related to trading and trade related discussions.

Below that is the Other sub forum.
You will notice a board called Meta. Don't get confused by its name. Any problems and discussions related to the forums are to be posted there.

Alternative currencies deals with all other currencies that are not Bitcoin. All of them!

And at the bottom you can find the Local section. If you speak another language besides English chances are that there is a separate language board for that language. Just check the Local section if it is there.

One thing that you should know is that there are some sections that are more prone to spamming than the rest.
For example Off topic, Alternative Discussions, Bitcoin Discussions. These boards contain a lot of spam or 'shit posts' and users posting there are mostly doing it for the wrong reasons. Many users are completely ignoring those boards because the chance to have a normal discussion there is pretty slim.

If you have any questions or concerns, address them here and someone will stop by to help you out.

As much as the admins are making sure there's no more scam in the forum, You should also play your part by doing your own due diligence.
That's not true. Scams are not moderated. See the quote below from the Unofficial Rules thread:

Q: Why haven't you banned who is an obvious scammer?
A: Possible (or real, not for me to decide) scams are not moderated to prevent moderator abuse. If we start picking out which ones we call "scammers" and ban, we would make a lot of decisions based on biased opinions.

The only "scams" which are deleted are users who are sharing links to download malware. Scams such as Ponzis, HYIPs, bitcoin doublers, ICOs, fake services, and all the rest, are not moderated and are not deleted. Scams are generally dealt with using the trust system. You should familiarize yourself with it via the information in the thread I linked to above.

The point I was really trying to drive home was that he shouldn't turn out to be a victim. And Yes, I'm aware that Scams are not moderated. But there are guides out there by mods to warn users about scams. Either way, Thanks for pointing that part out.  @OP, Welcome once again

Hello everyone here  Grin
I'm new to this forum and everything at first just seems a bit confusing. I have read through the rules and I know what to do on here, but it is still confusing for me. I am a member of other forums and the layout there is a lot different from the one here. If you guys could give me some tips and tricks on this forum, how to get around it here and how to communicate with others, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have always love talking to people online about things that I am passionate about and crypto definitely goes in to that category. I'm looking forward to your responses and speaking with you guys in the future  Cheesy
Welcome to the forum. Actually, there more "Guide Threads" that you still haven't read that is why you are still confused about the forum. If you are looking for a certain topic you can use the search feature in this forum or you can also search in google about the topic and include bitcointalk.org at the end of the topic that you want to search. You can also search without adding bitcointalk.org at the end of the topic name if you're not able to find one in bitcointalk.org but i am sure you'll find it here. Start with the easy one first.
