Have the same feeling. Kind of postmodern reality. To earn merit you either should be a professional just burning with desire to share your knowledge with people, who may later become your competitors, or make earning merits your profession trying to find post some new date concerning crypto-community prior to others.
Should I be interested in this ongoing race?

I think merit can be obtained from posts, topics, comments, etc.
Merit is given to other members because they think your writing is helpful / very useful.

It is very difficult because there is very little you can say, that could be new in this forum, particularly when you are fresh here. Of course this system of merits is more favourable to old users than to newbies and that is not very good.

Knowing the forum rules before posting helpful information, good content, high quality post that is good for contributing to bitcointalk forum is the first objective.

While i'm checking this thread I saw two threads that is based on how to earn merit or how to get merit in one page and one of the two threads I saw was this thread. I suggest that you guys set an agreement on which one of you lock the thread and post it to one of the thread that is not locked so that the spam posts will decrease. Just my opinion.

Most people on bitcointalk forum find it very difficult in knowing the reality behind getting of merits on the forum. I think it is a major issue that needs to be addressed and I would like to share the little knowledge I have about this merit.
To start with, we all make numerous posts and for every post you make to be catchy for readers on this forum, it should be constructive, of high quality and creative. If it happens like that, getting merits will be very simple for you. Can you also share yours here?

You can get activity according your post amount. but getting merits is not that much easy. You have to create quality post according to get merits. Then Automatically forum quality increase.
