When I starting invest at ICO project always check have get soft cap or not, its my way how to get profit with investment at ICO, without got soft cap I never make investment at some ICO project because have potential to be scam project or paused ICO.
This can be one of the ways to have some points in investing, like you mentioned. Soft and Hard cap can be good for receiving some information about project but this is just one step. I personally look at everything from top to bottom. Have some bad experience with it but now I always check everything even team.

to invest in ICO it is very difficult that it is now difficult to choose ICO and promising results, because if we choose ICO carelessly, the risk of losing big money is because last year until now there are still a lot of garbage ICO
my advice is to wait until the ico reaches the soft cap first and how fast they get it. if within 2-3 months you have achieved a soft cap, ico will definitely succeed in achieving a hard cap and the exchange rate will be high. that's when you start entering for investment and wait until the hard cap is really reached.
Investing is so simple but what is university that is the matter because we invest in a different currencies but all of them were not profitable for us at any time it had a lot of critical situation there for keeping them as a best then only we will make money from it otherwise our investment and our time will be totally waste.

ICO in 2018 makes me lose a lot of money because the market is experiencing a price decline and too many scammers and for this reason I will not join ICO until the market really returns like 2017

While investing in ico projects I try to read the projects white paper, get to know the team members .
See if there's a working product already.
Ask questions in the group to determine if it's worth investing on.
I aslo check the price of the ico and the available discount if any to arrive an informed decision.

Investing in an ICO is really good because once it become successful, you will earn a big profit. People tend to do ICOs because there's a big opportunity there. However, investing in an ICO nowadays are too risky, because a lot of them are scams. When you invest in an ICO, you should be careful, make sure that ICO is legit, Do some research (DYOR) so that your money won't be a lost.
