Expecting quick returns on investment in cryptocurrency is a faraway dream unlike in the past. Nowadays, the time has changed, and cryptocurrency is becoming stable. I have also invested in Sia coin and suffered losses. So following my experiences from the market, I came to know that only Bitcoin is a good project for investment.
I'm thinking of investing $1k into BTC as its low risk but I would like to risk the the other $500 with a coin that I can make quick money with it
that's a good idea mate rather than putiing your money in one basket wherein very difficult to trust.by the way if your looking for an altcoin where you can invest the rest of your money .i suggest go to coinmarket cap and choose the top coins to assure you can get good return in the future. Don't trust on some good project 'cause you know it's always uncertain. Bitcoin will grow, no doubt about that but the amount it grows might not satisfy as investors, if we are talking of $1,000 and we like to enjoy big profit, a 100% increase would not satisfy us but a 100% is already big for BTC as it will result to a new ATH.
Investing in altcoins aggressively is better IMO, we can earn x10 or more with altcoins, especially at the current price condition.

Well, I don't see any wrong with your plan mate, then if you want to invest the 500$ and you are willing to risk it, better to use that amount to buy coins and better to use binance dex to invest there dude, in this platform you can able to grow it if you know how to read the chart and have an idea about each coins listed to this platform. If you just know the proper procedure to profit daily in binance dex surely 100% you can make profit most of the time.
I think the most feasible investment is bitcoin. but you can choose several altcoins to invest too. from some of the news that I read, currently the bearish trend can still occur, and prices will decline again. therefore we must look for a support area that allows for a trend reversal, so that our investment will be more effective to make a profit
It's difficult to suggest an altcoin for a short-term profit, you need to analyze the market carefully because you can lose instead of gaining profit. Better try your luck in Binance IEO because it's a sure and fast profit if you can get in.
$1500 will be enough as a start in investing. You can use $1000 to invest in bitcoin like your plan, and use $500 for many altcoins. I suggest you have more than 3 altcoins to invest and don't select the altcoin, which has a high price to buy. You can choose the altcoin which has less than $50-$100 for the price, but the coin will be potential to increase later. You will find a lot of coins that can be a good choice to buy and you need to analyze one by one of the coin so you can find the right coins.
Always diversify your capital. $1,500 is enough to buy different major coins like bitcoin, ethereum and bnb for long term investments. And the rest for other altcoins for daily tradings. But be careful which coins you should buy, i can see bearish market is coming soon. So, you can still wait and buy at dip. Well, at the end of the day it is you who will decide which coins are better to buy and hold
If I were you, I will split it into IEO and invest in some of Altcoins. Using $500 for joining IEO (for short-term investment and quick profit) and put the $1000 rest for investing on some of Altcoins, such as BNB, HOLO, CRO (Crypto com Chain) and many more other options for it, I will put this investment as a long-term investment.
Investing in the Bitcoin will not be profitable rather than investing in the small market cap altcoins. The potential altcoins which have a decent future will not make the investor regretful from my experience.
With that kind of amount OP have i think bitcoin is the number 1 choice for him to invest rather than choosing altcoins which most of them had a bad reputation and it's not easy to get back your money if you don't know what coins do you have to invest.

Investing $1k in Bitcoin is the right decision, because BTC still the most promising and safest cryptocurrency right now. I advise that you diversify the remaining amount among multiple good coins to maximize the potential of earning. Litecoin and Ethereum are my preferred altcoins actually.
I would say bitcoin. It is always strong and a safe harbor for crypto.It seems the market is getting worse and worse for alts. Maybe in future things change but right now, bitcoin seems like a better choice.It may reach huge in a upcoming year.It will be acted as your assets for the longer period and give you huge in a short period of time.
Base on current price of btc your $1500 will be 0.15 btc or so and that I think will be a good investment for you at this time of bear but first most need to consider that alts are still in shock so holding yr btc is best now , except if you know how to trade with little of TA and that can be a short time trade with minimum of 2-3% target on daily basis.
But if you are looking for a long term investment then you have to let in yr research on like best 15 coins or token which you can actually invest 0.01btc each on them but would be nice to let watch what btc has for us first before we go in to alts .

If you want the fastest means of making money in cryptocurrency, you have to learn how to trade, at least if you know how to trade properly and trade good coins like bitcoin, then you should be able to turn that $500 into $5000 within the next 3 months, but it requires lots of studies, you have to learn how to trade properly, otherwise you will end up losing that $500 in the process of making quick money. Trading is the only way where I feel you can make that quick money.

Not quite sure I'd call BTC low risk -- compared to traditional investments, it's pretty volatile. But compared to alts, yeah, I suppose it may be considered low risk.
As for that $500, in this market I'm not sure if there are any short term plays really. I suppose you could look for a top 100 coin that has something planned near future (fork, airdrop, update) and try to make a 10-20% shortterm profit on it. Although the odds are just as great or greater that you'll lose as soon as btc makes a move again, so it'd have to be timed just right.
Maybe play the swings with that $500 instead, look less at specific projects and simply where the prices are moving. Won't get rich, but maybe it'd be slightly profitable. Personally wouldn't be worth the hassle to me, and if you don't guess a swing correctly you could easily lose.

If what you want is long-term profit, why not invest in Bitcoin day or week trading? It is too risky to invest in any kind of altcoin at this time. You may Play with the top 10 altcoins considering that you said you are willing to risk $500 on altcoins.
Don't put even a small part of your eggs in bad baskets. Better stick with few good ones.
You can buy cheap altcoin which there was good successful ico and more development that's means you need qualified almost 1-2 years old project for your good investment. I hope you will take enjoy if you can take a right project.

Investing in altcoins is very risky and people who invested in them earlier, and then received losses, will not invest in altcoins again. Therefore, I advise you to invest your entire amount in Bitcoin, especially now the price for it has slightly decreased. Even if Bitcoin does not rise in price in the near future, you will be sure that it will rise in price in six months.
