I always check if the team are legit or not. Check if they are real people and not a dummy or invented name in Linkden. If those guy are a reputable people atleast you can see their names in Google when you search it specially their CEO. Then look at the project if it is worth to join and the Bounty allocation if its worth the time and effort.

It's easy to realize that. The project has no clear roadmap, superficial ideas and no information of the staff. If you want to find an example, look for the Impressio project. that's really a scam. 
first make sure the bounty manager is recommended, second make sure that ICO is running is original project, because if ICO scam project of course I bounty it will be scam,

Scammers are everywhere so if we are aware on how to resist it.... We will never a victims of this scammer.... There are a lots of reported bounty scam.... Based on my experience also I have a lots of bounty projected join that end up nothing.... It is quite disappointing but I learn from my experience before I've join I really make sure that I am not on the wrong way.... I research a lots and also I look first at the team, their project and their purpose.... Don't believe that if you've get decieve.... You will be trap again by this scammer....

Let bounty alone, even scam ICO itself doesn't seems like a scam at first. Always do your research first, never ask and follow other suggestion without DYOR.
luckily i haven't contributed in scam ICOS, but i feel sorry for the honest investors that have been scammed by some ICOs.
Research stuffs including the people involved in the bounty and check their whitepaper. You can also visit ICOrating so you can check the rating of the bounty that you are joining and also you can have some feedback from people who also involved or joining on the articular ICO/bounty.
Today there are already many possibilities for verification: sites with a rating, you can see for yourself the persons who represent them, communicate with the manager and so on.
