If you have funds of $1000, why don't you try to enter into alcoin which does have a small value now such as qtum, sfp and dot coin which are predicted to have a fairly high price in the future, we can see how qtum, sfp has price movement that is quite active in the market and continues to experience a fairly positive trend, I really have enough confidence in these three altcoins to continue to grow.
Dot is not a small coin, it is actually one of the biggest coins in the world right now. Which is why I think it is quite important that you put that into another one. I agree that if you want to make money right now, you should probably want to invest into small coins that has a huge chance to go up, of course that would be a lot riskier and that is why it is not simple and it should probably lose a lot of money if you are wrong about them, but you can't make a lot of money without risking your money that way.
However if you do not want to lose a lot of money from risking too much and fine with making less money but being secure, you should probably go with high level coins, Dot is one of them, BNB, ETH, BTC are all like that, they will not lose you a lot and will not earn you a ton from now on neither. Of course, a bear could come and that means NO coin would be good.
