Once a man, twice a child!
I was once adviced to sell my coin when I had an issue that needed money urgently but I objected...
Don't be like those in the graves who have mouths but can't open them and eat. If what you urgently need to sell your Bitcoin to take care of is health, please don't hesitate to sell. Only those who've life in them know they've a certain amount of Bitcoin/crypto somewhere. Don't be misery and miserable when what can get you comfort is within your means and you can afford it. Again, those who are wiser always find a point to sell off and then buy back at further dip.

It's really a tempting period for Bitcoin investors considering the constant dip we have been experiencing for a while. I was once adviced to sell my coin when I had an issue that needed money urgently but I objected it took me quite a long time to hodl and loosing them now isn't a healthy idea at all.

If I sell off my coin I might not be opportunied to buy back the coin at the exact rate I bought the previous one and had to come to a concrete decision of not selling my coin no matter the consequence. Yes it's going to be a different story if it turns out negative but what if it turns out positive. Vertually everything about life had two faces been the negative outcome or the positive there is hardly any in-between and so for me I rather take the risk and face what ever comes my way in the near future because risk is a necessity as far as investment is involved.

If it turns out positive certainly the joy would be all mine and certainly a portion of it would be rubbed on people around and if it turns out the opposite direction then I bear my loss alone. It's really my cross to bear and making this decision was out of a deep quite time I had while I was wondering if I go ahead to cash out or I maintain my hodl and from all indication I just have to maintain my hodl till I get my reward no matter the manner it would appear.
Well to me, It is just one thing. As you have mentioned here "If I sell off my coin I might not be opportune to buy back the coin at the exact rate I bought the previous one" This would probably suggest that you bought them in a lower price range than what the price is now and you are probably in some gains which to me, if the issues were really serious enough, I wouldn't mind selling out of my profits to take care of that issue except it was not, like if it was a life and death of a loved one, spouse, children, siblings, parents situation, would you rather HODl on to your Bitcoin and take the chances? Like you said it could go either way even if you sell or you don't but to me, I would rather sell and know it didn't work out than to know I would have been able to support but chose not to because I didn't want to sell my Bitcoin but I get that Issue was not if that magnitude even though it needed money urgently.

But I think we should sometimes remember to take profits so we can feel the gains of our investment.

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
How can someone die of starvation, when he/she have Bitcoin. It sound abnormal to me, food is one of the basic needs of man, one needs food to live. Just as you stated, only the living can hold bitcoin. For me, if am hungry and there is no way I can get money, I will sell my BTC. Because I can't die of hunger, while I have Bitcoin in my wallet.
Suppose you live in a country where bitcoin is not accepted in any store or shop and you have a lot of bitcoin with you. Do you think you will survive? Now I know that many services like Bitrefill and all help in buying you gift cards in return for bitcoin but if I keep those aside then the possibility of directly using bitcoin to pay for services is very low in most countries outside the US.

This states two important problems that bitcoin has been facing:

1. Non acceptance in many countries due to a lot of reasons, either government pressure or lack of internet/electricity supply.
2. Not being able to quickly convert bitcoin to a pay-able currency that the local merchants accept.

This talks about the problem not the solution though. Point is that selling is important too, as buying is. You need cash at hand to be able to spend and you also need to keep money at hand for difficult times.

The OP's statement that they would rather stay hungry, is an illlogical one but it is a thought that comes to many people which is plain wrong.

The choice of whether to sell your bitcoin or not to sell depends on the degree of hunger you face. Examine a situation where the hunger has now moved past mere hunger and has metamorphosed into starvation to a point it is now a matter of life and death.

Only the living can HODL bitcoin, and in as much as we all have a target, this target should not be placed above being alive because if you die out of starvation or something else, there is a 90% chance that your HODLings may become lost & inaccessible to your next of kin unless your key was documented somewhere reachable.

Also the situation at hand puts forward different scenarios...Are you temporarily hungry and do you have hope on how to get money to eat from another source apart from you Bitcoin, if so, then it is easier to say you will stay hungry rather than selling bitcoins. If however the situation is very ugly, and there is no other means or way to money for food other than selling a part of your bitcoins to be able to survive the situation, this is also very okay because "ONLY THE LIVING CAN HODL BITCOIN". Don't die of starvation.

If the title of the thread is just a figure of speech then I agree, it is better to endure the most that you can and not sell your coins, however if the title of the thread is literal and someone is actually considering going hungry instead of selling their coins then it might be a good idea to reconsider.

It is true that if you sell then you may not get the same amount of bitcoin if the price skyrockets during that time, but we need to have our priorities in order, spending your bitcoin in frivolous things when you do not have enough of it is wrong, but spending it in stuff that you actually need to survive is never a mistake.

I just do hope that OP was not serious on this statement and somehow it shows only a figure of speech which emphasizes that bitcoin is a fragile thing that need to be carefully managed and hold. I mean we do deserve to enjoy the fruit of our work and including of enjoying the fruit of the long term investment or long term hodling of our bitcoin and not let ourselves or our family suffer from hunger which on the first place we have a valuable thing in our digital wallet that could spare us or our family from this possibility. But on the other hand as of the moment I couldn't also let my bitcoin out of my hand and I'm also willing to wait for the next pump of bitcoin.

Then how did you cope with your issue? Just curious though, did you borrow from some one without interest rates?

Well you can always buy bitcoin back at cheap price specially when it goes on a dip. You need need to buy 1 btc right now, maybe just continue to stack sats or do DCA.

If it turns out positive certainly the joy would be all mine and certainly a portion of it would be rubbed on people around and if it turns out the opposite direction then I bear my loss alone. Of course everyone wanted to be positive and hope that the price will go up at the end of the year. It might not be a long hold, but at least at some point we should take some profits to enjoy our bitcoin investments.

It never happened in my life, I will sell my existing BTC than staying hungry. In my understanding, food is an urgent need, while investment is not an urgent need. If you are hungry, normally you should sell everything for food. What for Bitcoin if you are hungry? We don't be too obsessed with profits, or too afraid of losses because of selling BTC.

Everyone has their own opinion and about the urgency of the situation then selling bitcoins to make ends meet is okay. Investment is the responsibility of every individual who does it. Investments should also use money that is really not used, so that in the event of an emergency such as basic needs, it does not interfere with the investment made. If the investment made has a profit, there is no harm in selling some of it and taking the profit, but if it is still a loss, you should keep it if there are other sources of income.

I understand where your point coming from. But when there are many ways to satisfied your hunger without selling off your bitcoin.
-Borrow money from your immediate family (im pretty sure they will help you with that reason)
-Seek full time or even part time job (that will help you compensate your hunger issues)

Theres always a choice. Whether the market will gonna go up soon or not. There is always a way not to sell that off if you regret selling it.

Would you be able to stand for another 3 years without eating until halving?

You will really be suffering a lot if you don't eat, just work for your daily needs if you don't want to spend your coins because that might save you from hunger. Looking for a job will be a good option for you at least, this is going to support your life. I would probably do so for a 2nd job if money is tight.

I always believe in the old advice that you should only invest what you can afford to lose. I am not practicing this, though. I am highly invested in Bitcoin that majority of my worth is in it. I have to admit that, but I would never recommend to anybody to risk everything for the sake of Bitcoin.

And, surely, I would never support anybody who prefers to go hungry than sell one's Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a human creation, a tool, to improve life, not to lose it.

What if the price of Bitcoin falls more in the next year or two? Would you keep on holding on to your Bitcoin even if your hunger is killing you?

Wrong perception if we will rely on the title .

Why are you investing in crypto ? of course to earn and EAT right ?

then you will deny yourself from Eating because you don't wanna sell your bitcoin ? the very moment that you decide investing here you must understand that this is risky and the funds you put inside can lose or win.

If you are all in with being a hodler and it happened that you ran out of food supplies and other necessities and had no other means to get what you needed to restock...tbh some of my coins would be up for sale, it's not like you are getting a Lambo such that this could destabilize your investments, it's just a couple of dollars and you back at look at some charts.

Its okay to be a solid hodler but when you are already risking out or compromising your health then those holding wont really be that worth at all and i agree on some comments
here that i would rather find out some other source of income for me to sustain my needs which is needed for living or to sustain yourself and if you are really serious with
bitcoin investment then i do respect that but not on the point on where you do already compromising your health with that. Its not bad to take some pinch of those coins
and sell out if needed.

And also, what will you do with your bitcoin if you are in bad shape and may cause other health problems? You will spend more money if that will happen. Better spend some rather than be stingy to yourself. Just remember, if you're dead, you won't enjoy anymore your btc. So yes, try to find another option how to earn money because not using it for the sake of holding, is not a very good idea to take.

holding or selling is your full right, whenever you plan to sell it is also your right because you are ready to lose and profit. everyone has their own standard of satisfaction, you feel satisfied when you are able to "hodl" whatever the difficulty, even willing to starve for your ambition to maintain the purchase price. I'm just reminding, anything can happen in the crypto world, and I'm sure you already know that, I'm just reminding you to live happily, get the happiness that is certain in front of your eyes rather than being too obsessive about getting happiness that is only in your dreams. anything in excess is not good right? so don't forget to take happiness by taking some of your profits, and you can still continue your investment for the long term in others.

To stay hungry might be a bit exaggerated nowadays, but of course we have to buy cheaper food or eat less in order to save money, otherwise our monthly income isn't enough to pay for daily expenses and still save a little bit. Each one's reality is different and each individual should act accordingly to it without worrying about how others will judge them.
Depending on where you live, not exaggerated. While I absolutely cannot, and will not recommend going hungry for any speculative investment, it almost certainly does happen. Money isn't everything after all, and what's the point of putting yourself in danger or worse, putting yourself, and your family at danger just because there's a chance you could profit exponentially in the future.
The point is to improve life conditions on long run. For me what doesn't make sense is to earn, let's say, a minimum wage and spend everything during the month. What are the perspectives of a life like this for a poor/average individual, knowing he is going to end his life in the same financial condition he is right now? That is depressing and mediocre.
At least by eating little today it can guarantee abundant meals futurely. It's a hard decision and I would like it wasn't the reality, but we have to do the possible with the disponible tools we have.

Before I said to stay hungry is exaggerated because there are governmental and private programs to help people in such conditions. They distribute food, clothes and money for those in need. Also, food production nowadays is totally mechanized and added to transgenic technology proportionates large harvests with low effort and crops' diseases.

I said this once and I will say it again, it's okay to hold and keep your investments intact because one way or another you will be able to reclaim these losses and maybe bag some earnings as well, especially when it comes to bitcoin. But it is not okay to put your health in the line, not only physically but every aspect of it just to secure your savings and have this sense of heightened confidence that amidst all odds you have kept your assets invested. Health can never be regained, earnings can and will always be at your reach. Think twice before you do this because this move will cause you detriments in the future.
