It would depend on your research because ICO investments can be really profitable too if chosen right. What you'll need to check is if the team behind is credible and has a good public track record as they will play a great role in the success of the ICO.

Of course, it is better to invest in known coins. ICO recently do not bring profit because their ideas are useless or were originally created to suck money from investors.

Everybody has a personal opinion for the moment. I will support investing in Altcoins this time will probably be luckier because the market is not ready to return. So it's decided that the Altcoins will be better. ICOS campaigns this time around are right.
Everything depends on what projects. And also from what coins you want to get. Recently I prefer to buy top coins. But too it is possible to participate in new ico if the project good.

today it would be alts investment, not only top20 but fresh and unique ideas which were closed their token sales not for a long time ago. For me it is QKC, PAI, ZIL, ICX, ONT, VET, XTZ, WAN, GEN, FTM and others. And also a couple risky investments with a little of money to very low capitalisation projects, something from 1000-2000 cmc places.
When I started here in crypto. I did invest on some ICOs, bought bitcoin, top altcoins and those that are still valued very low. Generally I did a very good gains so far. I know it is getting longer but bull run will really come sooner than expected. So it would be good to buy your favorite coins right now.
All of course depends on the financial component. If I have a lot of extra money, I will take a risk and invest it in ICO, as it can be an incredibly fast way to earn. And if I do not have such funds, then I will try to earn on altcoin. This is a cool option
actually you want to invest in the form of ICO or altcoin it depends on you are good at managing money, it's useless if you choose both but are not good at managing money, self confidence is much better, ICO and altcoin investments each have their disadvantages, advantages and risks even high enough, but if you want to get a lot of money you can follow ICO investments
I think investing in Altcoin is better because ICO is really not suitable for investment now, there are too many scams, and there are many shitcoins. Investing in ICO is now equivalent to gambling, not even as good as gambling. Altcoin which is already on the market and well-developed, is the preferred target for investment now, at least they will not make your investment worthless.
Invest in altcoin, as the coin is traded, the ICO is the tokens in the development phase, they may not be able to mobilize enough capital and will not succeed.

In the current market situation, I would prefer to buy all kinds of coins. For me, it seems not only a great and fast income, but also the possibility of a major investment in the future. I'm sure that's exactly what I need right now.
I do not think that at this time investments in ICO can give you a big profit. The market for crypto currency has changed very much and the ICO industry is in great decline at the moment. That's why I prefer to invest in altcoins.

I think that now it is more profitable to invest in alternative coins, because investments in ICOs are very dangerous. But that does not mean that you can buy any coin and think that it will give you a good profit.
In my opinion, this is a decision that may change according to which period we are. For example, at the moment I think the best investment is to wait in Bitcoin.

It is much risky to invest in an ICO now as many of them are just scams.
The market is also not good to have. But never forget that those ICO are the creator of alternative tokens.
Investing now in altcoins will give you assurance that your money is moving as they are already in the market.
But still, dont put your guard down as they may fall in the market also.
As we can observe the number of ICO's investors has decreased significantly due to disbelieving in their perspective. People prefer to save money in fiat or buy BTC.
Well for me i alway's like to take a risk that's why i choose ICO investment because the give discounts when buying it but it's very risk why because you don't know if the are real or fake but altcoins is more safe for investor's.
I think that with the current market is unprofitable and even risky to invest in ICO, it is better to invest in promising altcoin, it is much safer and more profitable than ICO.
I invest in coins. I ran into spam a couple of times. But even a small loss. The stock market is ready to play. A one-way ICO ticket. Well, this is my personal opinion. I prefer to watch the finished product.
