lol maybe! But you should not have negative thoughts. If all investors have good knowledge and do research carefully, I think ICO teams can't fool them.

Ya, you can say that its a modern Ponzi method. But most of the ICOs are scam. Very few are the legit ICOs. And i think the real ICOs are the way to get the investment for the project.

ICO is a novel method of crowdfunding, similarly cryptocurrencies are novel kind of money, but beside its potential both give fradulent opportunities. Bad people are bad, so please choose the tokens wisely... there are great offerings around too

I don't think you can blame developers for all these ICO mess we have now, you will see a project with minimum cap of $3 million even after reaching that cap, you will still found some people donating till they reach their hard cap of $30 million, why won't their be abuse of the free $27 million

I have to disagree with you on that point, I consider ICOs to be startups for small companies to raise funds for their projects which are built on blockchain. Don't forget that blockchain technology is taking over the world, most organizations are integrating their products to be compatible with blockchain technology. We all know that some currencies will make it in the blockchain whereas some won't, but that doesn't make them ponzi schemes.

I am not denying the fact that scams do it exists, but you should not associate all ICOs which are launching as scams since you might find that you are referring the next bitcoin as scam. I just assume that funds which are raised during ICOs are used to develop the project further.

most of the projects are unforunatley exploiting the ICO scene right now and take advantage of the system. That's why people are advocating regulation, because it will put some logic in this entire thing. At the moment it's a fest of just splurging money right and left until you hit something, but that's not sustainable. It's a great way to gather funds but if everyone does it for products or services that offer no real value, then the investment itself becomes valueless, and you end up losing your invested capital.

Yes, most ICO's are scams, it is really hard to find good and legit ico.
Ponzi is scam, but I don't think we can say that all scam ICO's are ponzi.
I hope ICO's will be somehow regulated in all countries and then we won't have problem with scams.

I don't think icos are always like this. There were some legit icos back in time gor example Waves. Then they released working product. But there are some evil people trying to get free money with icos, scamming. But it is happening in every business anyways.

In 100 ICOs 3 or 4 are seems as a legit platform and which shows the good growth in the market place value. We have to keep check all the information shared about the project then only we can invest. If we purchase in the time of pre token sale.
We will not be sure that the altcoin will be increase in future. According to ICO is the completely risky platform to invest your fund.

There's lots of ICOs now promising good profits. Even people are challenged to join the ones where its hard to buy. Maybe its the thrill or the challenge that attracts investors. You can check Pundi X ICO..I see no hype there. Its a good project for me. I prefer investing on this one.

Most likely yes.
But there are also some legit ones there, you just have to do research and be always informed.

Real ICOs are the way to invest, ponzi scheme is all cryptocurrencies like bitcoin which do nothing but try to find a sha256.
Real ICOs what do with tokens is a product and when people start using that product the price of token will go up because more fiat will come in.
You listen to many that 90% of ICOs are scams etc, those who write this numbers have never study the 4000+ ICOs on the market, the just came up with a number that is non sense.

ICOs can certainly enable scammers but only a small portion turn out to be so. Its important to take into account the nature of the project (does something like this already exist? does it need to be on the blockchain? do they need an ICO? do they have a product, or at least a minimum viable product?); the team behind the project (the should disclose their real names, their LinkedIn and other profiles, their history and experience), the advisors if any; the amount being raised (should not be suspiciously high); a roadmap with an outlined path; is the team engaged with their community?

Take precautions and you'll mitigate risk  Grin

I think with more scammers the easier would be to identify legit ICOs; it is like scammers can be identified and have the same pattern throughout their track.
