The messages are visible to anyone, thinking to add features like Direct Message in the future...
The transactions are instant. What you have experienced was probably a faulty with the faucet, it is still imperfect. Andy is working on it... but it might take some time. Remember this is a test network, and we periodically are interrupting it for maintenance, so use it only as a preview, not final product.
Why are you saying that txs are instant? 60 seconds are far from instant.

Doesn't matter, it comes down to the same result.
If everybody has to pay the fee, it doesn't matter, because it is not an ICO with fixed price. Bittrex could keep 50%, distributionwise, it still wouldn't matter. The dev would get less, though.
