But just try to think of it as what have happened in Japan, only this time, a lot of places had been hit. What should we do then.. Where really is should be the best way to go. What do you think of the 'underground setup'?

I am not sure whether underground bunkers will be immune from radiation. But even if they are safe, I am afraid that only a very small number of individuals could be housed in such facilities for long-term.
Actually, there is no safest place to survive from nuclear radiation but underground. Underground can provide small number of individuals, yet you'll be free from nuclear radiation.

There are some speculations that there are some compounds underground , maybe whole city. But when you think about it , its not imposible to build whole city underground. It only requiers a lot of money to invest, but its possible Cheesy .
In Russia there is such city of Odessa. In this city under the ground, the tunnels were dug. These tunnels are so long that they can go with almost any home in the city. I think it is possible to escape the explosion, but to survive it will be impossible even there.

There are many underground bases in Russia, for example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Yamantau

Quote
Mount Yamantau (Bashkir: Ямантау, Russian: гора Ямантау) is in the Ural Mountains, Bashkortostan, Russia. The name means wicked mountain in the Bashkir language (Яман тау). It is also known as Mount Yamantau. It stands at 1,640 metres (5,381 ft) and is the highest mountain in the southern Urals. Along with Kosvinsky Mountain (600 km to the north), it is suspected by the United States of being a large secret nuclear facility and/or bunker as well as being used for communication purposes.[1] The closed military town of Mezhgorye (Russian: Межгорье) is situated nearby. As late as 2003, Yamantaw was not yet fully operational.[1]

Large excavation projects have been observed by U.S. satellite imagery as recently as the late 1990s, during the time of Boris Yeltsin's government after the fall of the Soviet Union.[1] Two garrisons, Beloretsk-15 and Beloretsk-16, were built on top of the facility, and possibly a third, Alkino-2, as well, and became the closed town of Mezhgorye in 1995. They are said to house 30,000 workers each. Repeated U.S. questions have yielded several different responses from the Russian government regarding Mount Yamantaw.[2] They have said it is a mining site, a repository for Russian treasures, a food storage area, and a bunker for leaders in case of nuclear war.[3] Responding to questions regarding Yamantaw in 1996, Russia's Defense Ministry stated: "The practice does not exist in the Defense Ministry of Russia of informing foreign mass media about facilities, whatever they are, that are under construction in the interests of strengthening the security of Russia."[3] Large rail lines serve the facility.[3]

That's why we don't put all our apples in one basket. Lose the basket, lose all apples. Put your apples in multiple different baskets and you can afford to lose a basket or two. It's a subtle hint at space colonization I guess.

In case of nuclear war, the oceans around the world will be heavily contaminated with radiation. This would mean that eating significant amount of seafood might cause radiation sickness, and eventually death.

And all freshwater reserves as well. If this is the case where would people go to get water.

Wales.

I mean yeah, we're close to London and shit, but most of our caves point to out to the Irish Sea, so if we're prepared then the only nukes we need to worry about are those from the USA, we'll be sheltered initially from any blast from the mandem Russkies, India, Pakistan, China... and MAYBE Israel (yes definitely Israel), and MAYBE North Korea (almost certainly not NK).

France I guess just wouldn't hit us with em, seems like shooting themselves in the foot, but still our caves will protect us from Le Grande Bombe...

Oh, wait... My plan has hit a sudden problem - all our Welsh caves are directly facing the USA! And Trump will have the nuclear codes in a few weeks! Fuck.

Lets just hope Ireland bears the brunt of the nuclear attack  Grin

Just joking Irish crew, I love you guys and we Celts need to stick together! Feel free to join our bunker-caves anytime you want if Trump goes on a mad one - just blaze it across the Irish Sea and bring whisky and irish instruments like tin whistles, bodhran, fiddles and the like - we'll have a post apocalyptic jam sesh!!

I have a secret fantasy of this sort of thing happening, like mad max style horrific apocalypse, but people coming together in the most pure unadulterated way possible, not just for sharing resources but for companionship as well...

Aaah naive dreams they may seem, but you never know...  Smiley

Hahahaha nice thinking dude, that for sure would make you live true some hard nuclear time. You would have some grate fun with music and good booz, but there is a bit bigger problem than usa side, and that is hunger 😀 .

We have loads of fish that are easily catchable - every so often there are huge shoals of mackerel that come close to shore, and you can set up a rod and line with a bunch of spinning lures attached, and catch literally 10-30 mackerel in 1 hour. I've also caught a big bass spearfishing once with a mask/snorkel, and have dived down and collected huge spider crabs - 3-4 feet wide leg to leg (the body is smaller and inedible, but the legs are full of delicious tender meat, similar to the meat inside a large crab claw).

All of this seafood is easily cookable on a homemade barbecue or bonfire, and the fish can be very tasty raw, sashimi style, (but also works great on a barbecue). You can even take a walk 1/2 a mile inland and pick some wild garlic and other herbs to enhance your meal!

Food would be the least of our worries, looters and freeloaders would be more of a problem... We would need to get our defences and barricades sorted, and get some big security dudes to protect our cave.

It's hard to find proper guns here in the UK, so we would be using air rifles, farmers double barrelled shotguns and "black widow" slingshots to protect our cave commune!! (and also to hunt birds and squirrels to add to our fishing catch).

Odessa is located in Ukraine, and not in Russia. But during the cold war years, there were a lot of classified projects undertaken in the Budjak region (where Odessa is located).

Well if its dug enough underground with good made concrete structure it could withstand nuclear blast and radiation of it. Ofcourse there should be enough food and drinkable water for humans to survive . As i said it is expencive but it is possible . Didnt know abouth town in Russia sound realy grate , would like to see something like that one day Cheesy .
There is not a concrete tunnels. These tunnels are dug into the limestone and clay. From radiation they will not save, but from the effects of the explosion itself will save for sure. Moreover, the entrance to the tunnels is in the house and you do not even need to leave your home to the street.

It truly depends how many and what kind of bomb will be dropped.

Second, the biggest nuclear bomb is "USSR Tsar Bomba" and radius is 100Mt;

If I had chance to learn where they will drop the bomb, I would go to one of the Fallout shelter's in Switzerland.

And how long do you consider long? Just try to prepare food not for several years. The food should have long shelf life. How much do you need water? Even just without the sun people long to be able to live. To survive in the bunker will not work.

Well i don't think those bunkers would even be safe from the blast itself though. And we're talking about nuclear war here, not just one or two detonations. Also it's effects on the environment would pretty much have the same consequences as radiation if nit worse.

Safest place apart from the sky above or the ground below would be a refrigerator. Indiana Jones had to think quick but he got it right and his life was saved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arib8uWMWsM

The future of nuclear war, the earth's ozone layer disappeared, the Earth Sky cloudless drought, no rain, the most precious resources for the survival of all water, water may be the most safe

And ways in which humans can live under water? Do humans have to make a house under water as it made Sandy on Spongebob? if nuclear war occurred in the future, there will be no longer a safe haven for human occupied. In other words, it is a small apocalypse. That is why nuclear is prohibited. Too dangerous, both for the shooter, or the shot.

Kiribati sounds fine. Island, warm and sunny, parlamentary republic and ex-colony of the UK. I think this is the best solution. Or just to stay where you are and try to survive somehow.

I am afraid that Kiribati is not a very wise choice. It is a group of low lying coral islands, already threatened by the rising sea levels. Nuclear strikes will cause the polar ice caps to melt, and these islands will be submerged under many meters of seawater.
