It is not possible for governments to remove bitcoin from the middle. Because bitcoin is not a central system. It is the same as the operating logic of the torrent system.
States can not remove torrent systems. States can not remove from the Bitcoin system.
It is possible also that government will adopt the bitcoin industry, yes they cannot control the central system for now but definitely they  could find ways on how to control it. I think that government loves the idea of having a digital currency, lots of advantages compare to having a fiat. Let us just see in the next years.

The only way they can eliminate Bitcoin is making it illegal in every country in this world. It's unlikely that it will happen all around the world if it ever will though, because there will be at least one country that will still accept it. I think they will start making it illegal as soon as the total Bitcoin market cap will pass $100B.

I think they will have difficulty in putting stop to Bitcoin operation.  First, they need to do it internationally, meaning, they need all nation to participate in this, making Bitcoin illegal and put those who support it into jail.  If they failed to do it, there is no stopping Bitcoin.  Just look at torrents, they had been shutting it down ever since but it is still up and running.
Bitcoin is even stronger than torrents, nobody gonna find out who is holding bitcoin and who are running/supporting bitcoin nodes. Government can't just raid all of the homes to shut down each and every bitcoin nodes all over the country, so even all of the government participate in mission to stop bitcoin they can't.

You are the bitcoin.
If they can't stop you running bitcoin node at home, they can't stop the bitcoin.

Exactly, there's no mechanism possible to stop Bitcoin, it's a decentralized technology people! It's run by you and me in our homes and mining farms and there's no government or system capable of stopping it all alone unless we all decide to quit one day.

What if anyone wants to eliminate the bitcoin
This question always arises in my mind
as we know that digital currency it could eradicate the economic problems of each person.
But what if no one from the Government or concerned with currency want to eliminate the bitcoin.
I need to friends who are here to give you a bit of advice for me regarding this myself ...

Relax my friend it cannot be eliminated in any way unless they see itch off Internet in the whole world. Bitcoin is based on a decentralized technology called blockchain which isn't controlled by a central authority or government but individual crypto enthusiast like you and me through mining and periodic development.

it is hard to understand what you really mean, or even you are asking a legit question or making a random topic without even reading the replies. i guess me saying this here will clear things out, in case you clarify or ignore this.

in any case your question is similar to other many topics about what if bitcoin is banned and the rest of them what ifs. you can read them to maybe get our answer.

Omitting bitcoin in 2017 is already too late!
It is hard for people even to affect 10k btc nowadays. Bitcoin has spread its reach among more than 10 millions people in more than 160 countries. The Bitcoin has provided the feature of decentralization which made it possible for people to become a sole owner of their Bitcoin. It is almost impossible for anyone to omit bitcoin hold by others.

It will depend on the situation. Actually there are many moves to make bitcoin go down but those efforts did not succeed. A good example were the predictions that bitcoin is dead, or bitcoin price will experience meltdown and will flow down to 10$ each. But those statement were proven false. Even if government bans bitcoin it will not stop bitcoin on its path except of course if all the country around the globe bans bitcoin and bitcoin usage is considered a criminal act.

You cannot simply eliminate a technology that are decentralized. If Bitcoin was run on centralized servers, some government could have taken them down, but not Bitcoin. Bitcoin runs on 1000's of computers and cannot be taken down at the same time, these computers are spread globally.

The governments may implement strong laws or regulations, but people will still be able to use it globally. ^smile^
Trust me, if government really wanted to destroy bitcoin they would do it already. It may not be easy but it is doable.

1. If they would initiate a BTC ban and heavy smearing campaign, it would put off majority of people from using BTC.
2. They can't kill the network, but they can hinder it greatly. For example, gov can target ASICs manufacturers. Disrupt their business or try to force them to add a kill-switch to their products etc.

Has government ever been able to check illicit drug business, money laundering, terrorism?.
In today's world of sophisticated technology, government can not control every action of its citizen.
Bitcoin will survive any ban albeit it will be used stealthily.

Are you kidding? to shut down the system of bitcoin is to shut down the internet connection there would need a lot of resources to do that or maybe a solar flare storm can actually shut it, but if a mere government can't do it maybe a catastrophe would that is the only thing I think could stop the bitcoin system!

I think the elimination of bitcoin is pretty possible in the case if bitcoin cost huge. Many countries just can block it in one moment due to concerns about the anonymity of committed transactions and possibility to hide big money amount in bitcoins skeeping paying taxes. Today everything about bitcoin and other crypto-currencies is opened for everyone, so I think we can use that chance to increase our wealths.

Eliminate bitcoin  Roll Eyes I think you are talking about shutting down whole bitcoin network.

Bitcoin is decentralized that mean ledger is distributed among thousands of servers all over the world, so even if government shut down one server bitcoin network will remain as strong as it is before.

Nobody can shutdown bitcoin network.

Simply outlaw Bitcoin and declare anyone who is still using it an enemy of the state and threaten them with a lifelong stay in a cozy prison cell? I think this will be quite the persuasive argument  Grin People would stop running nodes, the exchanges will cease to exist, peer-to-peer sites would be either monitored or shut down as well etc.

The easiest way to kill anything is to kill the infrastructure and everyone will stop using it sooner or later when it's no longer convenient.
There were no infrastructure when bitcoin was introduced. No exchanges,no big mining farm etc.
If infrastructure from one specific location is removed for whatever reasons, new infrastructure will come up at other place.

The power of bitcoin is its being a decentralized currency. It is due to its decentralized nature, bitcoin can not be destroyed by one single individual or entity.

I can't see the way how this could be possible. Bitcoin is not just cryptocurrency, it's whole new technology and you can't simply eliminate the whole technology. Bitcoin could be regulated, even banned but not erased although I'm sure there are some who would want excatly that.

Well I will wish them Goodluck with that, since Bitcoin is the not their normal currency which they can just ban or say not valid anymore. It's a technology, and it belongs to no one. They can't do anything to Bitcoin accept declare it use invalid but then again who really will care. Bitcoin transactions are anomouos and they will give you in the end trying to figure it out, as to how to make sure people stay away and if they were to do so it will create more awareness for Bitcoin so either way it's good for Bitcoin but trust me they got bigger problems in trump and Bitcoin is not a issue for them now.
Thank you for your comment

how your actions if any Government wants to abolish the bitcoin? Maybe with politics, violence and others
What kind of response will do if it happens.
