It would better if the real creator of bitcoin will be hiding for the rest of his life ,like what he do when he first introduce it to the world. If satoshi revealed his true identity it will make a large impact on the price of bitcoin.

I think it will not make a difference on bitcoin if satoshi expresses itself.

I think if he shows himself, there would be a lot of questioning about the bitcoin that he created. His background might affect the perception on bitcoin. Let's say he came from a group of hackers then it might lead for bitcoin to be useless.

I dont know if Satoshis identity would help or damage bitcoin, sure would be amazing to know what the creator thinks about the road bitcoin has already passed, and the future. But for other side i believe people would kidnap him to get his coins, as well countries should try to put him/her into jail, soo we had reached the current status without his identity soo i hope it remains forever this way.

I think he can do so by not directly stepping into the shoes of Satoshi Nakamoto, but assume another personality. Resurfacing as Satoshi I think would rather take Bitcoin backwards, because it already moved on without  him and lots more division is sure to ensue

And what could he actually do?

As to me, he wouldn't be able to change anything even if he came out in the open under his real name (let's assume that Satoshi Nakamoto is the one). If he chose one side (say, Bitcoin Core as it seems to be his creation), the other side would still stick to their guns. If he assumed another personality and kept his incognito, no one would listen to him anyway. The only way he could actually change anything would be via creating an entirely new coin but given tight competition in the field, it is as unlikely. He would have just created another Bitcoin

Seems to me ~1 million unspent btc gives him a lot of leverage. At least so far he/they haven't wanted to use that leverage, but you never know

And could you explain what kind of leverage this amount of bitcoins gives him?

As to me, if he had 1M × 2000 = 2B dollars, he would have a lot more leverage and which would be more liquid at that. On the other hand, this amount of fiat is essentially dust and pocket money for most governments that may be interested in stopping or otherwise affecting Bitcoin (if ever). Therefore, on purely financial basis Satoshi would look pretty pale with his 1M BTC stash (it is rumored that some other dude has almost as many bitcoins, though I don't remember his moniker). Or maybe I just don't know or understand something, so you are welcome to explain what he could in fact do

Obviously this is unlikely but I can imagine several ways he could manipulate supply and price depending on his motivations. For example in the blocksize debate, lets say he didn't want the BU chain to succeed. He could dump the BU price into oblivion while using the proceeds to pump core chain price.  Or he could just make those intentions clear.  In absolute wealth he might not compare to governments but as a relative percentage of outstanding coins he is king.

He would probably face govt actions i suppose first. Bitcoin rate would most probably come down. revealing satoshi would be like revealing bitcoin keys to public.

I beg to differ, on the contrary I think Bitcoin prices will rather go up if satoshi is revealed but I fear for his life afterwards because they will eliminate him this time and show the proof to the world and Bitcoin might eventually die as a result.
Yes I will go against with what John said, because of the exposure of Satoshi he can have negotiations with the government and that is going to help the demand of bitcoin. We know what the government can do and if he is going to team up with any country that can boost the awareness of bitcoin and people will know that it's fine to use it.

the government will found and asked satoshi many questions if he/she show that he is the real satoshi because i am sure that the government will use their power to know everything about bitcoin and blockchain from the founder and they will do every ways to find out as much info as they can from satoshi itself.

I think today most of the big developers knows the full details about the bitcoins and its technology that is why they are giving suggestion of bitcoin hard fork, or segwit or another way. If not they wont be able to give any suggestions.

I think from now satoshi cant controll the whole bitcoin community since now bitcoin is already popular and lots of country can used and mine bitcoin. And also there are a lot of bitcoin system developer in each country that is why they do not rely on the past of bitcoin or where the bitcoin starts.

I think satoshi nakamoto would be happy if more people will saying that we are very thankful that he/she discover bitcoin to help many people like us.

Agree. At this point, Bitcoin has become mature enough in development, and community support, making it harder for Satoshi to control the whole ecosystem. Every day, Bitcoin becomes stronger and more decentralized, as people from around the world support it with their hashrate, development, and even establishing full nodes.

In some way, Satoshi's vision has been fulfilled, since Bitcoin is now a global currency, enabling peer to peer payments with no middlemen at a large scale. The protocol evolves on its own, without the need of its former creator, making Bitcoin a fully independent cryptocurrency.

Nevertheless, revealing Satoshi's identity, would not be the most viable option these days. If Bitcoin performs well without him/her, then there should be nothing to worry about. Just my opinion.  Smiley

What you told is 100% correct but what if when Sathoshi can make Bitcoin and it gets this much famous then he can develop same another coin with more secure features then everyone will leave bitcoin and join that coins, as now bitcoin is facing the transaction confirmation block problem and if it did not get solved then we can see bitcoin going down

One thing that would be interesting (just as a thought experiment) would be for Satoshi to make a move that basically says, "Don't. Mess. With Bitcoin." Something that would REALLY get attention. I suppose it's too much to assume that Satoshi still has access to his/her/their original private keys?

If Satoshi Nakamoto's identity is ever to be revealed, it would be a good thing if he/she/they were to control the circumstances in which it is revealed, in any case. That way Satoshi Nakamoto at least has some control over what happens.

thinking in those lines too and if satoshi ever decided to go solo and control how bitcoin is run
that would be going against his own decentralization beliefs and by now we all have seen how much power the community has collectively to make it a great asset .

Yeah. If Satoshi decides to make a comeback, it would probably be with another name, as many con-men around have used the "Satoshi" name for their own gains. (like Wright for example). After he makes this decision, he would reunite the Bitcoin community towards finally making Bitcoin scalable.

He would put an end towards the never ending controversy between different Bitcoin implementations like Core and Unlimited, and make Bitcoin great as it used to be in its early days. Everyone would follow Satoshi's lead, towards Bitcoin's success.

Still, without Satoshi, we have seen many improvements into the digital currency, as well as wide interest from people around the world. Bitcoin has been performing well without its creator, and it may continue as is for years to come. No matter if Satoshi reveals himself or not, it wouldn't make a huge difference for Bitcoin. Just my thoughts.  Grin
