If you're not going to participate in a signature campaign and you just want to casually engage in discussion merits and ranking will not matter to you, but if you want to target higher ranks so you can have authority and you want to be part of bounty campaigns, you will find ways to get merits, some members are freely giving merits all you have to do is to be more concern on what to post and how to post.
There are merit threads that you have to check to qualify your post to gain merits.

I'm sure you know this
And the answer is yes as the merits are strictly needed for you to rank up accompanied with your activity counts.
It might seem difficult at some points to earn merits but I'm sure the moment you start flowing with the tides, the merits starts flowing in and there are also some threads tht help people with merits for some good lost they've made without getting any merits on them and those members who give out such merits are known as merits source and they are in charge of helping distribute merits to forum members without enough merits.

To be honest, I'm still a beginner here. and I want to ask if our ranking will not go up if we don't have merit?

please explain, and thank you
Yes, this is exactly the case, and my account is an example of this. I have already fulfilled the activity norms for rank increase a long time ago, but the lack of merit doesn't allow me to get the next one. In general, each account has 2 important parameters, without which it is impossible to increase. This is activity and merit. If the first accumulates by itself after the expiration of time (and a sufficient number of posts), then the second must be deserved. Merits are distributed by other users if they consider your posts worthy of it. So, try and merit will not keep you waiting long.

Merit is the last thing to be serious about on this forum, this could get you distracted and you can start doing things wrongfully, be yourself and post what you believe it's right and helpful for other members, slow and steady always win the race, sooner or later merits will find it's way to you. Create topics about helpful tips and engage in different discussions, in every discussion always drop something reasonable, that's all.

Perhaps a bit more light should be shed on other unique ways one can contribute to rank up without merit concerns as this.

There is no unique ways to earn merits or rank up without being merit conscious. As a lower ranked member, you will get merited when you provide quality posts and you will produce quality posts when you are merit conscious. It is not bad to be merit conscious, what is bad is begging for merits.
Earn your merits in whatever legitimate way you want and don't listen to the people that propagates the merit fishing philosophy.
You cannot rank up without merits, so make posts that will attract merits even if they have to call it merit fishing. If you sleep, your account will sleep also.

Perhaps a bit more light should be shed on other unique ways one can contribute to rank up without merit concerns as this. I understand OP's tone right now and as true as it sounds, one has to really give thoughts and do proper research with good presentation to actually attract any merit from the sources they come from. I guess OP already knows this, but what needs to be stressed on is how strict the matter is.
One just has one choice left, sharpen up your writing and research on tech skill. This is a note to myself also.

From what I observe merit is just a way of applauding or publicly appreciating user for a quality thread or comment that meets a demand or a need. The merit is a growth factor that's comes through our comments and posts . And Yes our growth in ranks depends on it but not our growth in knowledge we acquire from the forum about crypto.
Your observation is not wrong. Constructive and quality interactions with this community are appreciated by merits and this system was introduced to give spammers and useless posters a hard time to rank up and to enjoy privileges like reorganization in this community and slot in signature campaign.
You both make a valid point and I wonder why Emitdama said letteredhub because you're actually on the same page. However, getting merit is not always about making a constructive post cause it can be earned through a good contribution that helps others and it also comes through luck at some point because there is a huge constructive post that didn't get any merit.

For you to get merit you to study what you about to discuss on,the topic you are about to reply or contribute to you have to study it and understand what it all about before getting to write on them.
It got no differences from writing constructive posts Grin. But, being a good poster alone not enough but you need to be a good contributor to this community in some unique way.

This is not true. Many sections have Merit-sources who do not hand out merits properly IMO. Just learn, read, and post what you can. Merits come with Knowledge and trust. Wink

Exactly. Just because one does not have enough merits doesn't necessarily mean he is a shit poster.
There are boards in this forum where there are not enough merit sources and not enough engagement.
Also, different people have different perspective and while one may like a post the other might not.
There can be reasons why a good post might not get any merit at all.
But I would say that we should make posts to get and give knowledge and focus less on the merits.
If a person will run behind merits then he will find it even harder to get them.
Just focus on the tech and keep making knowledgeable posts will easily get you enough merits to rank up.

New rule have adopted last several years with account level up not depending with how many activities having but also have each merit to get each level up.

Most person's know that merit comes as a result of quality post, but to those newbies who just got started and are feeling frustrated that they've stayed here for a long period of time and the merit is not coming,I want to let them know that the merits are not coming because their mind is set on getting merit. The merits will come when they choose to improve in the kind of posts they make.
You might not have problem with the merit system, but some of the newbies may,and only improving in their post will make them get that merit.

Well I was likely thinking to ask this someday but well I realized that if we been newbies want to rank up we need to be active and also post quality things that will bring merit to you,on like me I don't have merits and still praying to have it as well.
You need to take your time and try to post a quality stuff I guess that can lead to your merit too.
I asked a friend that introduce me to Bitcoin talk and after that he do receive merit most days and his rank has grown high as well so I was wondering so he told me I need to make a quality post then I can get merit and ever since then I have been trying to work on my post so as to get merit and to rank up to the next one too.

Hi, I'm sure you are satisfied with the answers you got from other members regarding your question and it's 100% true that your account won't rank up if you don't get 'merits', so you have to work hard to improve your account reputation and your post quality .

Maybe for some people it happens. They don't want to develop and get merit from airdrop alone. There seems to be some of the same as that. Some people may also quit, and be inactive because they feel inadequate.
Some do get Merit easily, because indeed his post is very useful. But some people may need to put a lot of effort into merit (like me). Actually merit makes me addicted to trying to make useful posts. It also makes this forum even better at discussing.

We all know how getting merit in bitcointalk is hard to attain,we all know that if your post does not qualify or worth merit, you won't get it,the reason is because merit is what ranks you up to the next level.Merit is what makes one in the forum feel he is doing well or making quality posts in the forum too.
And one thing I have noticed about this forum is,when you Concentrate on getting merit, you won't see it,the only thing one should concentrate on is making quality posts, post that will make someone feel like sending you merit, just forget about the merit,it will definitely come as long as your post is of quality.

Having merit helps to monitor the users if they post appropriate and useful posts.
Who monitors users' posts?
I never saw any statements that admins or moderators monitor bitcointalk users' posts through their merits.
Anyway, any member can make appropriate or useful posts, even the members who have 0 merits (newbies).

Earning a merit also determines how good you are and your growth in the community as time passes by.
Earning merits is good, it indicates that people appreciate our posts. But not every earned merit indicates the quality of posts, people give merit sometimes quite subjective. Each member also has their own standard about an appropriate post to give merits. So, earning merits doesn't always mean the quality of a member, but earning merit should be a part of someone's account rank growth. No change in account level (rank) without earned merits.

...so therefore i believe those people who is meriting worthless post or shitpost, cross examine them one after the other you will notice that they are into merit sharing, because no potential forum member will like to give a shitposter or worthless post that have no meaning or not meaningful a merit, either they know each other or it from it's tribe, the methods of giving out merit need to be review because many people is abusing merit system.
You now get the point I'm trying to drive in. So, when this happens we can't say it's because the merited posts have quality. Even, those who give the merit will claim the posts they merited are quality posts. This is why I continue to say it's subjective. Except you've a documented case of merit trading against a user(s), it's really not possible to dictate to them what posts to merit. Even if the merit system is reviewed today as you're calling for it, there will still be other loopholes to exploit. No system of the world is ever perfect.

This is the part where I disagree with many a user here because I see a lot of shitposts that get merited. Meriting posts isn't wholly a quality thing but subjective. It depends on the judgment and mood of whoever is sending the merit. Again, we can be right to say that certain users find it appealing to merit certain users more than others. The reason is best known to themselves. So, don't conclude that everyone who regularly gets merited are all quality posters.

Merits and activity are required for advancement in this wonderful forum. Although merit is not a test or outcome of seriousness or intelligence in the forum, it is a reward for contributions made to the forum.

We earn merit from our fellow forum users, and you can give merit if you find a post worthy of merit, which means it is a quality post that speaks a lot about Bitcoin and explains or elaborates on a solution to a specific challenge or question in the forum.

If you have two merits, you will always have one sendable merit to send out, and your own merit will be unaffected.

Have you ever been on an airplane, of course you have seen a plane, how big is the plane, how sophisticated is the plane, still, what is mentioned and talked about is the 'pilot' of the plane flying and circling in the air, it's all about the skill and prowess of the pilot.

A few percent maybe you already understand and know what the ranking requirements and merits are from other members who tell you in this thread.
Bottom line: your account is not the main thing, what people want to talk about and see, namely: your skills and knowledge here, if you have extensive knowledge, whether it's about mining, technical, legal, service, Bitcoin and so on related to other information, you are highly respected and valued here, rewards are none other than the merits of other users, automatically your rank can fly freely as high as possible.

and what makes us difficult in making quality writing is because of the limited knowledge we have.
Limitations of knowledge can be overcome as long as there is a desire to develop, post quality is needed to increase the number of merits. Merit will be spent on worthy posts, not ones you like. The distribution of merit every day is very large, the forum also has several service threads available to report posts that get merited.
Someone will develop depending on his intention join here, there are those who want to seek knowledge and there are also those who seek money. Prioritize Knowledge, money will be earned when you already understand how the forum works.

Merit is the system that's behind everything concerning the growth of everyone in the community, so i believe that anyone that doesn't have merit or earn merit the limitations of it's growth will remain constant, so that is the reason why some people do constantly ensure that they earn merit, while when constantly posting your activities will continue to increase and merits will still remain in one particular point. So merit determine anyone growth in the forum.

Just to get a quick idea of the number of accounts that have managed to Rank-up here since the Merit System was introduced in January 2018, this is the overall view:

See: https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/ddmrddmr/viz/BitcointalkMeritDashboard/Ranked-up

Looking at the above data, the core difficulty resides in moving past the lower two ranks, where numbers tend to get pretty thin.

If we now delimit the view to accounts created since 01/01/2020, this is what things look like:
See: https://public.tableau.com/shared/N8M6S93P5?:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link

A quick read of the above denotes yet again that mid-to-high ranks are not easy to obtain, yet doable for those that either have or acquire a fair share of knowledge and writing capabilities, which I presume are the core factors alongside time.

As per the necessities to rank up, you could use some merit with a different range of it. See other members cited for the necessity. Since you are still a newbie, why not spend some time learning from others here and trying to observe how they get merit? We came from the newbie rank too and had difficulty getting merit, but sooner or later when you did know how does the merit get, you can get yours too. Observe first; don't get under pressure once you think you can share information, even though it may Don't muster the courage to learn due to the merit system.

There's truth to the fact that without merit, the ranking won't go up. Inasmuch as I try to contribute my quota, it is rather intriguing to see how the merit and ranking system works.
I have come to observe however that each post created, if not drafted in the proper manner with links, sources and references inclusive, won't earn merits, instead it gets deleted or moved to a more appropriate board. Also, places to post which assures merit exist, but am still to explore.
In all, it only still proves that earning or getting merits is the sure way to rank up. Prove me wrong otherwise.

Merit is not a benchmark to judge members who are active in forums with good and useful content or posts.
While merit is not always an objective metric to judge whether someone is posting useful and interesting content, it is definitely a good one to filter out spammer. Like it or not, if we try to compare members with a 10 earned merit and 100 earned merit over the span of 120 days, we'll likely see the later post more interesting post.

I think rome is trying to post it from the POV of a campaign manager since they need to choose the best poster for their campaign. If you're just a regular user then there is obviously no incentive to 'monitor' users. That being said, we have multiple tools to check the merit history for each member, so there is obviously a demand for something like that. OP can also follow them if he wants to 'learn' how to make a post that is interesting if his goal is to rank up and participate in an engaging forum discussion.

Everything is clear after you get the first merit that takes you to rank Jr. members. Don't put merit as your main goal, start dedicating yourself to forums with quality posts. Merit will come by itself without you expecting that you can be promoted to a higher rank when the requirements for ranking up are met.
The question above has been thrown in several discussions, the answer remains the same. Some users have provided links that may lead to requirements for ranking up. Study everything that has been written there and use it as a trigger for yourself to make it easier for you to reach new ranks.

I understand your frustration because you have 112 posts and not yet rank up to JR.Member and still in a newbie rank, I checked your post history some of them deserve merits but unfortunately, they're unnoticed, I merited one of your posts that deserves it and encourage you to keep up creating posts like that, the one I merited, once you get the habit of posting relevant and good posts the merits will come automatically.

I just created my account today after scrolling through these forums for a few months. I am a newbie who doesn't have the intricate knowledge of cryptocurrency so how can I contribute to topics if I have no knowledge on them? I am going to start researching and reading a lot in the next few days and hopefully get merited. Thanks for your suggestion! Smiley

Just like any high-forum rankers, everyone started as a newbie and at the bottom. Even if you do not know much about the cryptocurrency world, then it is still possible for you to climb your way but it does require patience. Instead of focusing on the mindset of ranking up, focus on gaining knowledge and learning from the threads here. As soon as you start understanding the basics and fundamentals, you have now the capacity to contribute slowly and eventually get merits in the forum.

I do agree that even some high rankers are having difficulty gaining merits in the process but at the end of the day, not everything in this forum revolve around merits!

This has obviously explained that you haven't read through the rules and the sticky notes on each and every board-- including this one....no you haven't, if you have then you won't be asking a question like this.
It is a fact that a lack of reading habits will lead one to get lost even if it is quite clearly sticky on the main page. OP didn't read or could have easily dismissed it, but now he has nice addition to how to use the forum.

Merit doesn't come suddenly without some extra effort put into making quality posts. Not a single newbie after the implementation of this merit system will rank up if they don't care about the quality of the posts [nothing is magical] unless some of their friends support their futile efforts. But by reading a lot, understanding the rules and getting good idea for post, they will have a good chance of getting what they want. OP should realize that the merit system is the most successful way of preventing rank up spammers, and that's how it is.

Mind you too that earning merits do not come quite fast for most users, though there are some exceptional users that have Bitcoin/crypto/any unique knowledge even before they ever became a user on this forum, thus earning merits could be easier for such users even in their early days in their forum, but the thing is that most users aren't like that, that is why it is usually a slow and interesting process for most.

Having said that, since you are a newbie don't forget to take your time to learn, if you do not have knowledge to contribute to topics now, then don't, use this time to garner that essential knowledge. You also don't have to hope to get merited, or to post solely to get merited, just garner knowledge and contribute to the forum because you want to discuss/communicate and you'd definitely get merits.

Merit is very important to achieve a rank in here, AFAIK... You've been seeing alot of peeps with different merit count; that's not just fancied anyways, it's really something anyone should get if you must rank up in here. It's been happening way back; when peeps only needed few or much activity ratio to rank up, it's pretty different now as everyone new in here -- after the merit system had to pass through the same process... Earning merit is a different ball game entirely.

Yes, of course you have to get merit to change/raise your rank, but you have to meet other requirements besides getting merit, in the form of Activity.

Yes absolutely correct mate not just merit can take you to a high rank but Activity as well. Yes merits is very useful for everyone of here in order to to see ourselves if we are doing great or not because once the other user gaves you merits.  It because they will like your post or they learn something from your topics. And lastly like what other said above the moderator implemented the merit system in order to prevent spam and low quality post.

Unfortunately without merit you can't rank up and this only happened as a way to fight forum spam and low quality posts that went rampant few years back , but don't sweat it, the merit system is easy to understand using the analogy of how humans need food to grow and that food is in the form of merit here & without it you won't grow...

The Merit system improved the forum to a large level according to old timers here

It was a means to help fight spamming and bounty hunting machines who post all for the sake of earnings.

All that really matters now is how well you cintrubute to the forum and make your post educative fir others to learn. You need merit and activity to get higher and higher. But becoming a better poster and improvement in on self is all that mean now

I'm also newbie, as a beginner so if you want to rank up and earn merits, you need to contribute and make quality posts to show that you're active. When you put in the effort to produce quality posts, you'll start earning merit for your contributions to the forum, and as soon as you do, you'll rank higher than you think.
As per the rules enacted from 24th January 2018, a user of the forum must earn adequate merit to achieve the next rank. It is definitely an effective rule that enables forum discussions to be more meaningful. Since the forum is a platform for discussion of different kinds of things with receiving and giving merit against meaning full knowledgeable or informative post, no one can achieve any rank without having it. But if one uses his or her talent it is possible to easily achieve the rank within the specific time frame. We know the clear road map on how a newbie can achieve that top rank. If a newbie wishes, then he or she can gradually move towards the goal.

Posting on bitcoin discussion and beginners may be a good place for you, you can follow the discussion by providing weighted responses and not just one line. if you have limited insight, you can first read about the topic being discussed, then you can respond to what you can respond well to. the more often you do it the more accustomed it will be. You've been on this forum long enough and you already know what to do.
someone will not give you merit if your post does not deserve it. you really have to try. it's not easy to rank up, but if you keep learning you can do it easily.

Smiley
you don't have to immediately have to contribute to topics. if you have no knowledge on said topics you can either search them up or ask here on the forum. to be honest, if your only reason for reading and learning is to get merit you might get disappointed. not every post gets merited even if it is useful. my advice is to read and learn not because of might get merits when you post but because you are actually curious and wants to learn.

Without merit, one cannot advance in rank.

Your total number of merits indicates the significance and quality of the contributions you have made in this forum and how many of those posts have been recognized by forum members. A good poster and a poor poster can be distinguished from one another using merit. Every member of this forum requires it in order to advance in rank, maintain relevance, and reap the rewards, such as taking part in bitcoin-paying campaigns.

Your conclusion is a bit controversial, but it's true that shitposters won't get merit in most cases. But you know, today's shitposter are smarter than old shitposter who are probably more busy with shitcoin bounty, they tend to have a way to get 1-2 merit from different users in a particular thread.

I also didn't get many merit in November 2022, only about 4 merit from 4 different users. Then am I a shitposter?  Cheesy

If you want to rank up on this forum, you have to make quality post, if any member of the forum think your post is useful, then they might merit it. If you check this thread, you will understand the amount of merits required and activities required to attain a particular rank (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/newbies-read-before-posting-1689727). If you keep on posting, your post count and your activities will keep on increasing but your merit will never increase automatically if anyone did not merit your post.

Just as other have mentioned you need both forum activities and merits to rank up in the current forum ranking system, your merits must meet up with your fun activities requirements and merit are awarded by other members of the forum for your quality contributions, but from activities come organically from you posting on the forum your activity is generated automatically in every two-week cycle 14 activities in one activities cycle will be awarded base on your posts counts.

18 June 2013 to 23 January 2018 requires activity with Bitcoin forum posts.  Brand New requires 0 posts 0 activities, Newbie 1-28 posts 28 activities, Junior members 30 activities, Members 60 activities, Full members 120 activities, Senior members 240 activities, Hero members 480 activities, Legendary members 960 activities.

The higher the rank, the more merits you need. Also you need minimum number of activities and merits to attain each rank... So, merit is not just the thing that you need for ranking up.
You can have maximum of 14 activities every two (2) weeks (please correct me if I'm wrong), meaning if you have more than 15 posts on that time frame, only 14 will be added to your activity count. This is also the reason that most users here has more post count than activity count.

Pretty much explained by the above posts, being this one particularly insightful into your specific case. Take it constructively, but many merited posts are not generated by a quick thought, but rather require the author to elaborate a bit more based on either his already pre-acquired knowledge, or cross-referencing reading different sources on a matter, in order to become more fluent in it. Generally speaking, conversations taking place in off-topic are not going to be of much interest, and subsequently, won’t postulate to obtaining merits.

Fun fact: You can, in fact, be re-ranked, though that is more of an anecdote, and takes place when posts are deleted by one or other party, to the point of losing Activity:

Merit and activity is most important thing if you need to rank up. Like what Despario gives you the link above, all you need to know about how to rank up is already there, all you need is to read and understand it. Also you can not earn merit if you don't create a good post cause if you post a spam reply or low quality post then it's hard to ea merit. As we all know that merit source or all user here in in forum finds a good and quality reply to give a merits.

These aren't exactly parts of the forum where you can get a lot of credit due to the low quality of the discussion.
If you really want to progress on this forum and become a respected member, then you have to learn more about crypto and start writing in crypto forum topics.
Also, you have to learn to write better quality posts, which comes with time and experience.

To be honest, I'm still a beginner here. and I want to ask if our ranking will not go up if we don't have merit?
You must have enough merit for each member ranks to get that rank.
Forum rank

When you start out, you are a Newbie, and you will run into various annoying limits. These limits will be reduced to the point where you shouldn't usually notice them after you have participated in the forum for a few weeks. If you are on the forum to talk, then that's all you really need to know about rank. Don't worry about it too much, and you will eventually rank up.

If you want to maximize your rank, then you need to increase two statistics which are listed on your profile:
  • Activity, which is maximized by posting once per day on average. Posting more than that is useless in raising your activity.
  • Merit, which is gained by making good posts.

If you make ten thousand posts in a week, your activity will be capped and you will still be a Newbie. If you make ten thousand useless posts over any period of time, you will gain zero merit and you will still be a Newbie. You can rank up only by making good posts consistently. It's quality over quantity.

When trying to write quality posts, a lot of people act as though they're writing a book report for school: putting facts that we already know into their own words. Nobody wants to read that, and you will not get merit for it. Moreover, the length of your post and the quality of your English are only minor factors. In trying to write a quality post worthy of merit, you should offer new ideas, personal experiences, or perspectives that other forum users will actually find new and interesting.

It is good if you know about Forum purposes because it can help you be a better member in this community.
Quote
The purpose of the forum

This forum exists to provide a platform for the free (but ordered) exchange of ideas. If you have an idea to express, then it is probably possible to do it here as long as you follow the rules.

A lot of people come here primarily looking to make money. The forum administration is very happy that people are able to use the forum in order to better themselves; indeed, one of the reasons for Bitcoin's creation was to break the artificial barriers which prevent so many people around the world from attaining prosperity. However, if your attempts to make money conflict with the forum's primary goal of enabling discussion, then you are swimming upstream, and you will not be sucessful in the end.

If you view the forum as some sort of "job" where you complete some basic tasks and get paid, then you will almost certainly be disappointed, and the forum administration will not be sympathetic. If you do make money using the forum, then it will be through innovation and entrepreneurship, not any sort of mindless busywork.

Activity and Merit are required to rank up. And if you talk about merit, it will actually come to you when you make a post that is quite useful for those who read it or can be called a quality post. post quality itself varies. But quality posts are usually always informative (useful for readers) and certainly contain insights in them. so that people who read and feel helped by the post will voluntarily give you Merit.

and I think you have good potential and have some pretty high-quality posts. But unfortunately you often make posts on boards that are not paid much attention to by Sumber Merit. so your posts haven't gotten any Merit.

Merit comes when you least expected it, do not hunt for it, instead keep making contribution and you will earn merits, if anyone on this forum is not earning merits and their activity is over 50 then they are shit posters, it is impossible to make 50 quality posts and none get merited.

You are correct, no merit means no ranking up. And in order to get merit your posts have to be helpful to someone, which they currently aren't. From what I can see, you are not actively participating in discussions and instead you read the first post of topic, leave your opinion on the matter (and its usually 2-3 sentences) and move to another one.
The fact that you are mostly active in Politics & Society and Off-Topic boards doesn't help either (as they are historically low merit boards) but its possible to get merit there as well if you add value to discussions.

Yes you cannot rank up without fulfilling the merit requirements for each rank even if your activities are up to it, the reason why merit was introduced was to curb or stop spammers from ranking up, if you're not a spammer and you post very well with quality standards, and what you also post contains important informations that is full of thoughts, members may find it interesting to merit you and you get receiving merits till you meet the required merit for each rank, if you don't post well or if you spam, troll or post shits, no one will merit you and you will not be able to rank up.

As per requirements to rank up you need some merit with the specific range of it, see other members quoted for the requirement you are still a newbie so why not take some time to learn from others here try to observe how they get merit we came from the newbie rank too and having trouble to get merit but sooner or later when you did know how does the merit get you can get yours too, observe first don't get pressure yourself once you think you can share information, thoughts, and knowledge to other members that benefit them merit follows. You must earn merit to change your rank.

The Bitcoin Forum has been going through various changes, expansions, plans over time.  From 22 November 2009 to 17 June 2013 the forum rank fluctuated with no activity.
At that time, the rank would change only when the full member had 100 posts, the senior member had 250 posts, the hero member had 500 posts and the legendary member had 1000 posts.

18 June 2013 to 23 January 2018 requires activity with Bitcoin forum posts.  Brand New requires 0 posts 0 activities, Newbie 1-28 posts 28 activities, Junior members 30 activities, Members 60 activities, Full members 120 activities, Senior members 240 activities, Hero members 480 activities, Legendary members 960 activities.

Since 24th January 2018, activity as well as merit system has been introduced.  Now it's not just about activity but it has to have merit number.

Brand new/Newbie (0 activity, 0 merits)
Junior member (30 activity, 1 merit required)
Member ( 60 activity, 10 merit required)
Full member ( 120 activity, 100 merit required)
Senior member (240 activity, 250 merit required)
Hero member (480 activity, 500 merit required)

This is not true. Many sections have Merit-sources who do not hand out merits properly IMO. Just learn, read, and post what you can. Merits come with Knowledge and trust. Wink
