Maybe your friend doesn't want you to lose more value of bitcoin because he felt that the bitcoin price will still go down. But it is really up to you because you are the one holding it. Whether you want to keep it expecting that the price could still go up or follow your friend's suggestion. For me I will still hold in my bitcoin because I believe its price will go up again.
He doesnt understand how the market works and seems like you also dont understand since you dont know how to explain him this situation. It is absolutely normal for the price to go down because the market of cryptocurrencies is very volatile and there could be changes of over 50% a day. It is normal and it is happening every year, thats why you just have to calm down and keep your bitcoins in wallet because the price will increase again to the value that it was before. Your friend suggest you that because he saw that the price is going down very low and he think it is never going to recover wich has proven to be wrong in the past years.

I don't choose to sell my bitcoins because they don't know bitcoin, and I'll convince them to make my own decisions, and I'm sure they'll respect me and let me make my own choices.

Despite its definition, I believe that at the end of the day the decision on when to take that advise is still dependent on what you decide to do. Receiving an advise doesn't mean that you are obligated to follow it, instead you have a choice to thin it through and weigh your options as to what the circumstance allows. Knowing that it's your coins on the line, the most important opinion on what action to partake is yours so think it through and decide for your own. If you think that the opinion is valuable then consider it but remember that you are not obligated to follow by what other thinks that are against what you want. Your coins, your rules.

Honestly you do not have to listen or explain anything to him. It is your coin and he has nothing to do with it. Instead, ask him to explain why he said it so. If you do not want to sell your coins, do not sell it. He should be the one that do the reasoning and explaining because it is out of his league since that Bitcoin is yours.
If my friends advise I should sell bitcoin. I will not listen to them. Because I have invested in it a lot. If I choose to sell it at this moment I would certainly suffer a heavy loss. . I think it will soon rise. I hope the patience I expect will bring me much profit.
Perhaps those who advise you to immediately sell you Bitcoin because they have see it was falling, are not truly understand the world of crypto currencies, they really want to help in a sense that they want to stop lose. However, you have to keep in your mind that you may lose once you sell.

Well, you can just start by saying to him that this is you bitcoin and you feel that you can have a much more greater profit or cash if you can just do it by holding. You can also thank him for the advice, but you know life is really more about appreciating and maybe they are just looking out for you you don’t have to do everything they say because remember it is your life and your decisions matter you just have to sah it to them in a way that would also not let them feel that you don’t like their advice

If the bitcoin price is to the highest price when your friend told you that then go sell your bitcoin. You are the one who responsible to decide about selling your bitcoin and if you think is it the right time do it. But if its not wait even for a month.
It is your bitcoin don't let him do things that you don't have or don't think is needed because if your heart doesn't want to sell bitcoin then follow your instincts that is not a true friend if they want you to do what they want. I think your friend just want shares from your bitcoin.

I guess from January 17 until now the OP has learnt a great lesson whether he sold or not because bitcoin has gradually risen back to quite a good value now and so i don't think if he had sold then it would have been a sound advice. Hope he didn't sell though.

But if you buy bitcoin in expencive price and sell it in cheap price, will you follow it? You will be lost a lot of your money, but remeber, in my opinion, bitcoin price go down just looking for buyer in low price, and then bitcoin price will be go up, and you should consistent in investment world.
