My best advice is to invest a small token amount such as $100 when you're ready, and use this to gain familiarity with joining ICOs, trading coins, and getting a feel for how blockchain works. Use Etherscan, Blockchain info, and other such sites to monitor your transactions. Transfer between exchanges. Transfer back to fiat. Do everything until you fully immerse yourself and it becomes second nature. Watch your $100 coin investments fall, watch some of them rise, learn from that.

When you're now ready to take the plunge, invest a more serious amount but no more than what you can afford to lose.

You should start with doing some research about blockchain technology and some trusted projects. Have a look at their team, what  they are doing, how active they are and what kind of community they have.

Dear all,
After I received hundreds of bitcoin and crypto adds on my social media I decided to join the forum to find out more about this blockchain technology. I found this forum huge and have no idea where to start. There is so much to read about. I could use some help to point me to the right direction to catch up with all this stuff here. Any help would be much appreciated.

You will be prone to scams. I would suggest that you find a
friend that you trust and ask for his help. That will be the
easiest way. Also, buying bitcoin depends on your country.

What you can do is to read up on bitcoin since it was the one who started it. It may be through articles and news but also try to read up on its whitepaper to get a better grip on how and why it is made. Also, try to look for other things related to bitcoin like wallets, how they are used and such. As you go along, you will be able to encounter terms you are not familiar with so you can look those up.

First, read the forum section for beginners.
Do not buy crypto coins until you study the forum.
Do not take part in telegram channels, with signals - you will lose all your money.
Create a Twitter account, facebook. Participate in the companies of the bounty, read about the projects in which you participate.
5 months is necessary for you to start to orient and start investing.

To begin with, you need to decide what exactly you would like to work in! Basically it all depends on the availability of cash and free time! There are options such as taking part in bounty companies, investing in ICO,and you can still invest in projects!

First of all, Welcome to crypto space. If you are new and want to learn more about the tech and investing advise I suggest the following sites/podcasts

1. Coindesk - It has a vast collection of tutorials and fundamentals on blockchain. It also publishes news articles regarding the market, new tech and ICOs.

2. CoinMastery - This is Youtube channel and normally gives decent advise on investing. The guy is normally bullish on the long term and dishes some good technical analysis on charts.

3. Podcasts - I prefer listening to 11FS - Blockchain insider. I have found them to be pretty unbiased and generally interview VCs, exchanges and founders.

This is a highly volatile market, and one should have the stomach to go through the huge ups and downs. So invest only the amount that you are fine with losing. Most veterans like arsonbunny on reddit have soom good tips and strategy on reddit.

Good luck!!
Media is a good way to know more about bitcoin but dont you know that some of them are paid to write fake news and fake information? nothing is 100% truth, especially newspaper and media. Try to read information on wiki or some book which is written by people who have knowledge about bitcoin and the blockchain.

The purchase advice from someone who does not invest is worthless. Advice from someone who invests is risky. The only good investment is one that is supported by your own knowledge and experience, so my advice is to start learning and not invest. When you have knowledge, you will not ask Wink  Cool

You should read the bitcointalk rule since you are a new member here. To answer your question, I think you can learn a lot about bitcoin by watching youtube video and read medium blog.

Yeah, a lot of things to catch-up. But don't worry it won't make you mad, instead it will enlighten your spirit towards cryptoworld. Is just gonna be full of hardworks in the start but in a later days, is just only basic task for you.
You just be focusing on altcoin sections which preferably guide you on investing some altcoins.
I agree to you buddy which need to gather enough information all about crypto currencies. Try to watch the video as much as knowledge you could understand. Actually, it so exciting to know all about crypto currencies and time goes by it made it difficult but somehow you will understand. Try also ask those friends of yours who already have enough knowledge about crypto currencies let them to guide you and be humble all the time.

I'm new to crypto where to start?

Start at the beginning and then read your way up : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=1.45200

edit : yes, that was a joke .. sorry about that.

Rule number 1 : only invest what you can afford to miss
Rule number 2 : never leave your crypto on an exchange, always make sure you have full control over your crypto and make regular backups
Rule number 3 : understand and be prepared for high volatility in these crypto markets
Rule number 4 : do not panic sell when markets go down unexspectingly
Rule number 5 : do your homework on the crypto project(s) you are interested in : check if they have a detailed roadmap, if they make good progress on that roadmap and if their dev team have problem-solving capabilities

Coinmarketcap has direct links to each cryptocurrency's homepage, so use it to gather information about the crypto projects out there : https://coinmarketcap.com/

Welcome to the new world, which is called crypto.
