*Cue loads of threads in Meta from newbs asking why they can't post images*
Post a link to this thread then lock it. Probably there won't be very many of them.

Well I previously would have agreed with you, but can't see many other abuse cases.
How about those "bandwidth limit exceeded" messages on images?

Can you please explain what you mean with that?

Well i understand the concept but it's not the perfect solution. At least it gives me a big problem: i started the OP as a newbie and was posting only major updates on that thread. The OP looks like a war zone now: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.10966191
What's the quickest solution?
TIA
Alex,
GameCredits

Edit: Maybe the newbies OP should be excluded.

Well that would just open up a massive loophole for the trolls, thus defeating the purpose.

Now this leaves me two options: 1. to post rubbish just for sake of activity count (which i find lame) and 2. To donate 10BTC to become a donator, (which is a hefty price) for a 5 posts difference i need atm.

Seriously? Is it really that difficult to make the handful of required relevant posts to achieve Jnr rank?  Roll Eyes

I can see your point. There'll be lots of similar threads that'll suddenly be incomprehensible especially in the alt section.

Does it have to be retrospective? I assume anything offensive was removed back in the day.

also doubt he was the reason for this change.

Are you absolutely sure about that? Can't really think about anything other than that particular entity.

Just doubt it. This forum doesn't make new changes that affect a lot of it's users only to try and stop one troll.

Well I previously would have agreed with you, but can't see many other abuse cases.

guess that means we won't be seeing all kinds of weird pics in the speculation section anymore.
We won't see the images, but doubt the spam will stop just yet.
This change will make it more difficult for users to feed the trolls. Once the trolls get hungry enough, they will go elsewhere

And yes, trolls like NLC should be ignored

Brilliant. Thank you theymos. You've literally just destroyed NotLambChop's life Grin.
What the hell is he going to do now, no more stupid troll gifs & old men gay porn.

inb4, NLC posting ASCII gay porn.
On a more serious note, we should stop giving that guy attention, also doubt he was the reason for this change.

No more flashy mile long images in the Patrol page? When will the abuse stop?
/sarcasm
I think this is a good idea.

I concur with both of you. Even though this will not stop spam, it will definiely help. I remember recently going through the patrol page when people were around me and I stumbled upon some gay porn image. That was a weird situation.
Besides, even if they were on topic, they would still have to be labeled NSFW.

Good move, I suggest to disable the hyperlink too, like it is in signatures for newbies.

Due to abuse, newbie-posted embedded images are now disabled on these pages:
- Topic display
- Recent posts / patrol
- Previews
They're not currently hidden in PMs or on some other pages (like a user's "show posts" page), though I might change that later if it seems necessary.

Disabled images get transformed into links automatically. When the poster becomes a Jr member, the images that he tried to post previously will automatically be re-enabled (though there might be a few minutes of delay).

This extends to all past posts as well as future ones.
