Another milestone by Pujara, he got his 18th first class double century. He is not letting the selectors think that he is useless against the upcoming BGT. I hope he gets into the squad this time. He scored against Chattisgarh 234 in 383 ball with 25 fours and a six.

Look at the reserve list. They fast-tracked Nitish Reddy.
snip..

That was very quick and hopefully he will get a chance to play. The good news is that if Rohit doesn't plays the first two games then Bhumrah will be the captain. The BCCI have started finding the next captain for the test side. The team looks good but since it is BGT and the matches will be played in Australia the condition will be tough for India.

It's quite surprising to see the reserves. I am in favor of all seam reserve but at the same time, it seems early, considering they could've some game time in the Ranji and more overs under their belt, it started already.

Harshit-Reddy did more than okay job in the Duleep Trophy. I had a feeling Reddy would be fast-tracked because he's a seam all rounder and management desperately needs one for SENA tours, mainly upcoming BGT. Maybe they are just keeping em with the squad so that they can monitor their progress in the nets.

Fingers crossed for Mayank Yadav, he's an exciting talent and hope his body allows him to bowl 15-20 overs in the net regularly.

New news that suprised me is that Rohit Sharma will not be playing the first two matches of BGT due to personal reasons. Who will now lead the team in the first two matches?
Can't take any news seriously atm because recently some rumours was floating about Pant (going to RCB) and Shami (out of BGT due to injury) as well.

Both of these players had to post on Twitter that it's fake news so I'll wait for Rohit or BCCI to release a statement.

Pakistan again losing a test match at home on a flat pitch. This team is now becoming a nightmare for Pakistani cricket fans. New news that suprised me is that Rohit Sharma will not be playing the first two matches of BGT due to personal reasons. Who will now lead the team in the first two matches?

Lol no we were never that bad, at least at home. We haven't lost more than 10 series at home since the 1970s.

You are giving BCCI way too much credit here. SLC is a poor cricket board so they have financial problems but SL now seems to doing well.

PCB and BCB both boards are quite resourceful and have a fair amount of money, it's just they are more into hoarding all the resources instead of investing in talent. After that ofc braindead tactics and consistently playing musical chairs be it management or team combination.

Thanks for explaining the reason behind these two guys not being able to be part of the squad. The Indian cricket team is in the process where for the first time after many years we are seeing players who are good in all formats.

It is important for everyone following Indian cricket to understand that we have players who can play in multiple formats. It wasn't the situation 10 years back which means BCCI has done something unusual as 2014 our team was struggling in all forms of cricket.

Deviating from the topic I pity Pakistan cricket now as these guys are going into the phase where we were once. They still don't have anything in place to create new players who can bring back the same reputation as those who were playing in 80s or 90s. The current situation is so alarming with the current ongoing test match.

It seems they will lose the match after the curators creating a pitch which is suitable to the Pakistani batters. The bowling has been pathetic and I feel BCCI has demolished cricket in neighbouring countries which were once a threat.

So the Kohli factor ruined the career of Pujara and Rahane. I thought that BCCI had an influx of talent pool in red ball cricket and that is why these two guys were not getting selected. I was not aware of this issue. I still feel Pujara should get a call before BGT as he has been preety effective against Australia.

Yesterday saw this young talent who after debuting got his first 50 in T20 international. Nitish Reddy is the future of Indian cricket and he is here to stay for long time.
Guess I wasn't clear enough.

No, Kohli or anyone else had no part in excluding the Puji-Rahane duo. It happens with everyone when the transition period starts.

At least 3-4 guys were standing in line to replace Rahane and at the same time, more or less Pant also made a comeback and competition got tougher, even Iyer lost his place in the Test squad. Number 3 is considered an important spot in the test team and it's always better to try new talent during a home season because it is considered an easy outing hence Gill started batting at number 3 and we saw plenty of new guys (Sarfraz, Patidar, Devdatt Paddikal, Jurel etc) in the middle order against England series.

India has enough bench strength but at the same time, no like for like replacement for Ashwin (a major concern). Washi is there but he's an unfinished product as far as his off spin is concerned. The hunt for a backup opener is ongoing progress but don't forget Jaiswal is just 10-11 tests old and only debuted last year so he was also part of the existing bench strength.

In SENA's condition, it's another ball game as far as the bowling department is concerned because you need a seam all-rounder, atm we have Thakur and he's doing a satisfactory job for India but I think management is now trying to back Nitish Reddy, given he does well in upcoming Ranji Season. There is a high possibility of him being fast tracked in the test cricket.

In white ball cricket, we have plenty of options but that's not the case in the test cricket as far as the backup opener slot is concerned (A fair amount of middle order batters are in line tho), and don't forget Rohit won't stay there for long.

The new Ranji season is about to start soon so both (Easwaran and Rutu) will get another crack to strengthen their claim and surely selectors will keep an eye on their performance.

By the way what happened to Cheteshwar Pujara? The BCCI is not even considering him in the probable 11. The dude is younger than most seniors who are part of the test squad and he is the best batter that India has for the middle order. I understand he cannot play like what we saw from Indian batters in the second test but he can be kept as a backup batter. He is still hoping to make a comeback as he has not retired from test cricket but BCCI selectors are not interested it seems.
Kohli-Pujara-Rahane had a bad run together, aur uske baad transition period start ho gaya. Kohli was too big so management started transitioning with Puji and Rahane. Some younger players were also knocking on the door so they had to shutter down for Puji and Rahane.

Personally, I feel that management could use Pujara's service in Australia (only). Puji was the backbone of an Indian batting lineup in the last 2 Aussie tours but it's wishful thinking as Gill is there.

You can't compare age etc just like that. The team's selection comes down to specific roles and batting numbers or Bowling options. For example; For openers, competition should be among openers only and not middle order batter like Jaiswal vs Rohit vs Rutu vs Easwaran instead of Opener vs KL, Sarfraz, Pant, Rahane etc. It's the same for every spot, you can do a few modifications here n there like Rohit used to bat in the middle order but turned into an opener, similarly KL started as an opener but finally settled in the middle order. Likes of Pujara and Rahane were already settled at their number 3 and 5 spots respectively but when your form is bad, new blood will replace you.

I am afraid he won't be playing anymore for India along with Rahane since they started ignoring those two since the end of 2023 WTC. Pujara is someone sweated his ass to save India from red ball in many occasion but he gone under the radar due to the dominance of whiteball and I hope he get recognized in someway.

I had no idea the Indian cricket team was looking for a backup opener. I was under the impression that we currently have sufficient batter for the opening slot. If what you are saying is correct then he should be considered as one of probable before the BGT team name is announced. I also saw the stats of this guy and it has been impressive indeed. He is in good form and the selectors should consider his name once.

As an opener, the dude is minting ton after ton recently (Duleep Trophy and Iran Cup) and India are searching for a backup opener.

Ruturaj another opener kept failing but he was up in the pecking order. Now i guess Abhimanyu Easwaran will get called up for the back opener, maybe for BGT considering he gets in the India A against PM XI (Version of Australia A) and performs.

Is anyone watching Irani Cup?

Abhimanyu Easwaran needs a good PR team.

No, I am not watching the Irani Cup, since you mentioned Abhimanyu Easwaran I did a Google search and found out that he missed his double century just by 9 runs. He does need a good PR team from now on for him to get noticed by the selectors. Is this the first time that he has batted so well in domestic cricket or he has been consistent? I saw his age and it seems he is losing time as he is already 29 years old which is not good.

As no one is discussing the ongoing bilateral test series between India and Bangladesh, why not initiate a discussion about the match on the dedicated thread? What do you guys think about the ongoing test match that is currently in its 4th day? I am confident that Bangladesh will suffer an innings defeat in the first test match as they are struggling against the formidable Indian bowling attack. Ashwin is the all-rounder, so India is in a comfortable position at the end of day 3. What do you guys think about his excellent role again in a test game while representing the Indian side?
It's already going on in a dedicated test thread.

After 3-4 rounds of meetings. IPL committee came up with their guidelines. Not happy with the impact player rule as it's bad for genuine all rounders.

- Purse is increasing but still feels way too slow to me. It should've been around INR 200 crore, sadly we won't reach there anytime soon.
- Players in the Playing XI will earn an extra amount, which could touch INR 1 crore, given he's playing all the matches.
- The number 5 rule is specifically made for Poms and Aussie lol
- The number 6 rule came because of the antics of English players, I believe it would be applied individually and from case to case.
- The number 7 rule is for Dhoni only.

PS: Waiting for the moment, they start thinking about the fan's experience in the stadium.

If by any chance there is some terrorist attack then it's another ball game and can happen due to security reasons, otherwise, I don't see alternate option to the "Hybrid Model"
I do not think there will a terrorist attack as these Pakistani guys have been banning the whole of the city before an international match. Yes, the threat is very high and I don't think the ICC will take any risk. Looking at the current situation and what is happening currently in that country, I don't think any team or thier respective board would be interested in CT happening in Pakistan.

I also don't think a hybrid model will be needed as I feel the tournament is going to shift to a new location with a new host. In all probability it will be UAE and India both hosting the game or UAE all by itself.
