Hi, Lyle here and pretty new to the bitcoin scene.  Looks like lots of changes coming with asics and whatnot, but having fun until that happens.  Have a Radeon 6850 running in the 200 mhs range and just earned my first full bitcoin!  Woot!

Anyway, looks to be a great community here and hoping to be able to participate and have some fun.  Thanks!

Yes I ordered an ASIC as well but the smallest one.  I will consider the 30/60 model when there is availability and only if I have BTC to cover it.

Hi all,

I'm Paul, and have heard about Bitcoin for quite awhile, but never really thought much about it. What finally pulled me in was reading an article about mining and realizing how similar it is in spirit to previous distributed computing efforts, like SETI@Home. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool geek and have loaded up distributed computing clients on entire farms of computing hardware in the past, just for something to play with.

My first thought was, "Wait a tick... I can do this!" I tend to be something of an obsessive researcher, and have spent the last month reading just about everything Bitcoin-related I could find. I bought a handful of coins, found a mining pool, started playing with different mining software, and made a couple of small purchases with BTC.

I think I've mined all of $0.50 so far, but I decided to take the plunge and gear up for the "ASIC revolution". It's a no-brainer for me... it's a new toy to play with, so even if I lose every penny, I'll still be glad I gave it a shot!

As I've gotten involved, I've found that I'm almost more fascinated by watching this small global economy grow and develop in real time. The unregulated marketplace is a colorful place: scammers, suckers, legitimate businesses, and everything in between, all trying to make their mark on this new economy. Isn't it interesting how, no matter which of those is your angle, it's in everyone's best interest to keep the BTC economy healthy and thriving?

Anyway, I digress. I'm just saying hello, and happy to be a part of the community. Looking forward to chatting with... well... most of you.

Cheers!

Hello. I have been playing around with bitcoins for a while now but have not really been involved with the community.

I have a bitcoin related project I am working on and figured I had better get involved in the community sooner rather than later.

Just started on Slush's pool.  Put the computer at my desk at work so I can actually make something lmao Cheesy  I needed something to remote into anyway as the terminal server got locked down.

Original plan was to just slap a 7870 into a machine that was just sitting in the corner for a few years (1.86Ghz core2) but it didn't want anything to do with it.  Unstable power supply, etc it wouldn't even stay in BIOS for more than 2-3 minutes.  Not temps CPU under 30C.  As I also had a P8P67 motherboard laying around I just got a Celeron G550 and upgraded that along with the PSU.  Not bad total $400 with the card and pulling 400Mhash/s.  Ran out of time I have parts thrown all over my work area HAHA but at least up and running.
