Hiya Guys and Gals

I have been mining bitcoins for nearly a year (approx 360MH/s across two machines)

I just want to post about two problems when my probation is over.

The first is regarding
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/06-bitcoin-qt-stuck-at-block-176947-78307

I have one machine stuck at the same block. (was running Bitcoin 0.3.24, then upgraded to 0.6.0) same problem.
I have moved the entire contents of appdata\bitcoin folder (backing up wallet first) and redownloaded the entire chain. The chain is at 99% having got stuck at block 176947 again.
I have checked the correct port forwarded on my router (to the correct PC) and added bitcoin.conf with the correct port number.

The second problem is minor at the mo, regarding CPU usage (100% of one core) when minimal or no CPU should be used. I havn't concentrated any effort on this problem as I can do with the extra heat being generated at the mo :-)

Other than that...

Hi everyone.

I'm still reading up on everything Bitcoin related.
As a programmer myself I love the concept and have started my little laptop down the road off it's first bitcoins.
Once I've fully understood more I'll be making my first purchase to something a little more dedicated and useful to mining.
The really high-end GPU are really tempting. Maybe a home movie system that has a dual purpose, not like I'll be watching movies 24/7, but I could still bit mine 24/7, with a really good GPU. Anyway thats the plan for the first one.

Hello!  I'm looking forward to joining these discussions.  I'm interested in bitcoin economics and mining with fpgas - what a great interface between the real and the virtual.  I live in Northern California.

Hello my handle is Dalkore.   I have been lurking for a while reading some interesting discussions.    I have now done enough research and know have a solid plan I am going to execute in the Bitcoin ecosystem.  I live in Seattle WA, in my thirties and have a strong interest in financial history and the origin of money, value and wealth.  Yes, I read all the time.  I hope to have a warm welcome.  I am not here to troll and want to be a productive member of our growing community.

I am looking forward to reading the 300 pages of newbie posts over the next 30 days while I wait...

Uh, Why?  The newbie section is the only place that you can post for the next four hours, it's not the only place you can read.

Touche'
But  - I did not mean that to be so sarcastic.
I am  looking forward to getting to know the community.

Cheers,

What is with all the waiting periods and 30 day this and 2 day that  -
the unavoidable waiting periods that no exchange mentioned when taking my money.

I am not trying to buy guns. I am trying to use _my_ money to buy Bitcoins.
Are Bitcoins that dangerous?Huh?

Yes, bitcoins are that dangerous - to the person selling them. Because bitcoin transactions are irreversible, and all other means of electronic payment aren't, the seller is at a very high risk of chargeback fraud (ie, you buy bitcoins, then after you receive them you call your bank to reverse the payment, leaving the seller holding the bag) when you pay electronically.

If you want to avoid jumping through all sorts of hoops to get bitcoins, you must pay cash.

Thank you!

So, Bitcoins incur a higher risk of chargeback because transactions are not reversible.

I may have to get that piece of information tattooed on my forehead.

If any exchange or wiki - that I happened to read in the last 2 weeks -
had simply said or posted that,  I would have immediately understood.

I have heard that bitcoins were problematic because of chargebacks.
I _assumed_ that was due to anonymity fears and the like.

I also probably read that bitcoin transactions were irreversible.
But since that concept is hard to believe/understand - I probably did not get it at all.
Maybe I assumed the irreversibility was a hashing thing and not _economically_ important.

Anyway, I guess I have to really dig in and read some documantation here...

I'm not new to bitcoin, or this forum. Well, long enough I had the newbie restriction removed. I simply didn't use my account for about a year and apparently can not remember what it was! Or did the forum change in some way over the past year? My prior username was something like qbit or q_bit.

Hello

I've been using Bitcoins for about around 3 months, I find the concept of crypto currency very interesting and useful, I like that they are not monopolised by banks and don't have regulatory overhead.

Hello everyone. I am kernel manic.
I am normally happy and witty and wonderful to be around.
Right now, I am morose and concerned.

What is with all the waiting periods and 30 day this and 2 day that  -
the unavoidable waiting periods that no exchange mentioned when taking my money.

I am not trying to buy guns. I am trying to use _my_ money to buy Bitcoins.

Ok - I hope I don't get banned for complaining in the newbie section.

But since there is a waiting period here as well - or a wading period?

I am into the ocean, sailing, scuba, computer security, jazz, blues, electronica, dancing, food, privacy, activism, etc. etc.

My research interests until now have not been related to bitcoins or digital currencies and virtual  economies.
I was more into the relationship between information, noise, random play and the ability to
confound predictive demographics both in the real world and in the digital world of big data.

I am looking forward to reading the 300 pages of newbie posts over the next 30 days while I wait...

I have already seen that some of you have your own ideas and are implementing them in business or
on your sites, or where-ever.
That is inspiring - I'd like to see where all of this leads.
I have some interesting plans, but I am a bit too private of a person to go into detail here.
I could contribute some great things, if I am ever allowed in the pool.
