As, you have expressed yourself you are a newbie in this filed and then trying to invest in ICO can be very risky step. You can compare it to buying a lottery ticket , you may win or loose but the chances for losing are more. In this increasing competition it is very hard to find a precious ICO which can make you rich, so I will advise you should invest in BTC and by the time you get understanding of this market you can invest the amount you gained profit form BTC over that period of time.
Firstly you must recognize market, how crypto market works, why and when they can increase, which icos can be good and when you learn all these things, you can invest to ico or buy btc, altcoins.

IMO, I think you only should use your money to buy BTC, don't invest in ICO project if you don't have any knowledge or experience about it. Buying bitcoin you can expect profits in the future. But investing in ico with good idea and team can generate more profit. It is more risky but it can be very profitable.

We should really move away from the great btc. It's dominant because it was the first in the scene, but other coins with better potential exist.

I may also have not been here too long, but I often read in this bitcointalk forum, that a beginner is very risky to invest in coin ICO, we better look for coins that have been in select many people for them to make an investment, ie, like bitcoin or ethereum for us to make an investment, I think both are coins that have good potential. It is really worth it if you invest in ICO that has a good community and reputable people behind the project,I remember last year that i invested in electroneum I bought it at .01 cents then when the market open the price is skyrocket to .10 cent then my investment got 10x .I so happy that i invest on that ICO that to so much hype.Better check the project first if it is legit,If you want to invest in bitcoin that is good also but it takes quite sometime to earn from that.
It is pretty much "keep investing in ico for speculative pumps", "keep investing in bitcoin for stabilized wealth creation" for me. Some icos can kill bitcoin in the name of "profits". I saw many icos directly doing 10x.
You just have to know, that in initial coin offerings, you are investing in totally new created coins and projects. So if they are new, you can invest a good amount of money and you will become a lot of coins. When these project develops well, there no limit to increase your investet money. Its more risky, but maybe moore profitable. When you are investing in bitcoin, you will be pretty safe. But the chances to makes a lot of profit are defintiely over. Bitcoin will not make a 100x in the enxt years.
