I've seen this link on several IOTA posts where you can supposedly check the sync status of the node you are using.  However, whenever I click this link the only thing I see is,

Data sources updated every 30 minutes. Reach me at IOTA slack or show some love:
IOTA: BAWURRYDYASRBQHHC9UFTGJGE................

What is the deal with this??

Try this link - http://www.iotasupport.com/lightwallet.shtml

Or check your own wallet.
To check the synced status, you can compare the two milestone numbers (in the nodeinfo under Tools) in your wallet to the most recent milestone number in the #botbox of the Slack. If all the three numbers are same, your wallet or your server is synced. If they are not same you need either wait for them to be same or change a server.

implementing your own, not tested and non-standard algorithm is never justified. It's the worst thing you can do in the security world. Nobody will take you seriously if they discover something like this in an audit.

I would take your words seriously if you backed them or was a renowned expert in IT. Without these things your opinion is just an opinion of a stranger on the Internet, value of such opinion is approaching zero from minus infinity. No offence  Smiley

want your IOTA to grow. Grow the network. Host nodes. Find like minded ppl and host. IRI nodes are not like miners. Re-deploy a 64 bit pc, 8 GB or more, unlimited internet and power. More nodes, faster, meaner, more secure.

That is all the IOTA team is doing all the time. A lot of new companies have recently joined which are going to experience and work with IOTA. All of them are very likely setting up big industry nodes. Every week new minded people are presented which join the Foundation. Compared to most - probably all - other projects in this domain, IOTA team is doing a great job.

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the IOTA wallet.
I bought some IOTA in June or July, and transferred from the exchange to a wallet (I can't recall which version, but definitely before 2.4.0, and this was definitely before the snapshot in September). I haven't touched anything since then. What's the best process to transition/update?

1. Do I go through all the steps: download wallet 2.4.0 to transition, then 2.5 to reclaim?

OR

2. Simply download 2.5.6 and use that to transition/claim?

OR

3. Wait a few days/weeks for the team to finish the claim process, and hope they'll have something that will do everything at that point?

Any tips or advice? What are your thoughts CfB?

Thanks!

Transition can't be done any more. You have to use the reclaim tool in the wallet to get your IOTA back. See these two articles for instructions:

https://blog.iota.org/gui-v2-5-2-latest-release-with-iota-reclaim-tool-32d364d6241a
https://blog.iota.org/gui-wallet-phase-two-of-the-reclaim-process-f5913109cf46

Great, thanks for that, much appreciated. I'll give it a go and will post back here to let everyone know how I get on.

Ok, so I went through the steps, it was fairly straightforward. It took a while to get confirmed, a few hours of sitting & waiting and checking back every now and trying to "reattach" and "promote". Part 1 took the longest, Part 2 not long at all. Fingers crossed IOTA Foundation come through with the goods and transfer my funds back to me!

after rolling their own crypto I think IOTA have destroyed all their credibility in front of the technical people. Their only credibility is in front on noobs and technically illiterate people. No offence Smiley

No offence, of course, we don't expect non-cryptographers to get why own cryptographic primitive was justified.

Aren’t all cryptocurrencies still in the testing stage? Aren’t all cryptocurrencies still not production ready? Isn’t every cryptocurrency project still doing the trial and error to become a better one? Didn’t every cryptocurrency have its own security issues?

You need to take a big breath and read these two articles

Its not okay to speak truth about Iota. You can only pump it up. Shit show ponzi scheme.

You claim doesn't pass reality check. If you were right your posts in this thread would be deleted because this thread is self-moderated. Only one explanation comes to my mind - what you tell is just ridiculous lies which don't even need to be disproved.

So what should one think of a writer - even if s(he) is related to MIT in some way - who does not even know these two simple facts - or even worse - does not want to know them.

DCI of MIT Media Lab are just around a year in the industry, give them some time to get experience.

People not following their investment, thus missing publicized swap deadlines and now their coins are gone. Got it.
Anyways, I’m in. IOTA is the picture Andreas painted for me in his talks when I first got into crypto.

Their coins are not gone and will get returned soon. Check the updates in the #announcement on the Slack.

I can check them. Because Dom personally banned from slack for asking when and where are money would be returned!

Ponzi scheme? I think you may have some misunderstanding, that the overall digital currency are Ponzi scams it? I think it is the best currency I can make, IOTA is the best in my heart, thanks to the blockchain, thanks to IOTA

The article was posted just before IOTA went from 1.2 to 5...

The article written about a month ago ... AND yet it still applies to Iota and its issues. Minus a few new ones. Like the thieving devs.

To those who want to say they bought more Iota. I laugh, its recovery is no where near any of the other tokens. Iota is a joke and a shit coin at best. Run by thieves.

The most reputable tech group "MIT media lab" is destroying IOTA tech:

https://www.media.mit.edu/posts/iota-response/

At one point the author is provably wrong.

Quote
Whether or not IOTA’s ledger is “tamper-proof,” the entire IOTA network went down in November, and was completely inoperable for about three days. That this has never happened in Bitcoin or Ethereum suggests the extent to which the IOTA network relies on the “coordinator”—a single point of failure—and is not truly decentralized

Back in 2010, a Bitcoin miner was able to create billions of Bitcoins because of an undiscovered bug. Therefore, a hard fork of Bitcoin was conducted. Furthermore, Ethereum had centralized pillars at the beginning as well, before and partly while Frontier release.

So what should one think of a writer - even if s(he) is related to MIT in some way - who does not even know these two simple facts - or even worse - does not want to know them.

If you don’t believe, why are you here?

I read that medium response. My only comment was C f B stated, and I’m paraphrasing, that the anonomalous observations only manifested in improbable circumstances. One of those circumstances was negligent physical security which I understand, but the other one I did not. Something to the effect that some collisions were intended by design but a preponderance of collisions can be seen in improbable circumstances.

Still no payment from devs. Iota is a shit token run by thieves.

If IOTA devs are thieves then you shouldn't wait for your tokens. Why would a thief return something?

I could not find where you announced the ICO. Do you have the link?

Thanks

Note: Just like old times.... people are scamming.... I really dont believe anymore on a coin with transaction fees =}
