What is the block time of IOTA? And is the "mining" process called mining or something similar like harvesting or forging?

No blocks, no mining in Iota.

I had some time today and read the whitepaper. I must admit that I do not fully understand how Tangle is function yet but I got the concept.

However, I have two open questions:

What is the block time of IOTA? And is the "mining" process called mining or something similar like harvesting or forging?

Sadly Dan again failed to deliver (no idea how it's even possible), so I officially gave the task back to the other dev who I gave it to early last week, so he's now working on it full time and will finish it quickly. The really good news is that this UI dev will become a long term member of the IOTA community, so the UI will no longer be outsourced to someone who won't be able to keep up with maintenance etc. So in a sense, although the delay from Dan is unforgivable, it may have turned out for the better now that I got someone who is dedicated to IOTA to do it instead. So objectively I think we'll all see the incompetence of these other dev teams as a blessing in disguise in the long run.

That's a good news, to have someone who will stay with the project.

this is not what the official wallet is gonna look like.
@iotatoken - please post a teaser screenshot of the GUI when you can. Thanks!
I have willfully chosen not to post a teaser yet (even though UI design has been done for a while)

Yea, ok. It will be out soon enough. Indeed it is a really good move to have a UI dev long-term.

Yeah that's not the official UI. But a great initiative for a quick web access.

I have willfully chosen not to post a teaser yet (even though UI design has been done for a while) until we get the code behind it. Some might see this as an odd move, but it's simply to continue my (which still represents IOTA) approach of only hyping once it is available. A lot of these crypto projects gets thrown into this unstable equilibrium due to speculators hyping over everything, it's much better to be disciplined and then over-deliver, which leads to a lot more benefit for everyone at the end.

This is the console.html file from the current IRI (IOTA Reference Implementation) to test if the node is running properly. I am very sure the actual IOTA wallet will not look like this.

I made this, this is not the original console.html file, this is not inculded in current IRI version, this is not what the official wallet is gonna look like.
This was just me putting together a very simple wallet for testing sending transactions.

You can find more Info here:

Interesting announcement! How do you specify "big holders"? I mean what is the minimal amount of IOTATokens to be considered as big holder?

Potential opportunity

I am in the preliminary stages of negotiating a potentially big opportunity for IOTA. Now before crazy speculators start trying to exploit this for their own gain: this is still VERY MUCH in the realm of the hypothetics and absolutely NOT going to happen unless the big holders of IOTA actively engage in this to make it happen. So no one should see this as exciting until this happens. For now it's just a potential opportunity

I encourage the big holders of IOTA to contact me either via [email protected], Ryver or PM over at http://forum.iotatoken.com to discuss further. The reason I won't leak any further info is simple: I don't want speculators to abuse this (currently) non-info to boost IOTA. If I see any retweets about this it will be the last time I ever make a public call.

At this moment I set the cap at 1 million IOTA, because we'll need these people to be open to this for it to ever happen. If it goes forward we might call in more community members to help this happen, for now it's still very much preliminary stages.

Videos are a great idea. It's the most effective way to quickly get a story accross

At Hypercube we have made a large number of promo's, explainers, tutorial videos and use case videos the last couple of years.
We produce videos exclusively for the blockchain space and are very experienced. Our clients have raised millions in crowdfunding rounds.

check out www.hypercubestudios.net

We've done work for Bitcoin.com, Factom, Shapeshift and many others.

Most recently for Lisk :

I'd love to help IOTA produce some great videos and give it the attention it deserves. With the current focus on DAPPS this is really the time to get out there and be noticed.

We handle complete productions, including script writing, voice overs, visuals and music.

PM me for more information.

Really like the Factom video you guys have done. I'm not a big fan of the overused 'drawing cartoon while speaking style' simply due to it being used virtually EVERYWHERE for the past 10 years, so it doesn't stand out anymore at all.

What do you guys charge for a video like the Factom one, so the community knows what sort of ballpark number we're speaking about?

Thanks for the compliment.

Yes, whiteboard videos are everywhere. There's a good reason for that though : they are very effective. They also cost less time to produce, and are more affordable. To be honest we'd rather make more artistic videos, but there's a time and place for both categories.

Video makers generally don't discuss their pricing in public and for good reason ( that I won't go into right now ) but I'll PM you.
