There are countries where it is prohibited, but in fact it is not possible to regulate. I think that for Bitkoyn and many Altkoins the future, in fact, it is possible in full that, with the correct regulation of this issue, the Crypto-currencies, which are based on the blockchain, can be very useful for the whole world.

they can only control and manage, because bitcoin can not be mastered. so if they want to domintae, so they  will be like china.

I think the formulation : "bitcoin is not regulated" would be correct for now . If any government have a law which regulate crypto and make it illegal and forbidden to use , then it's illegal in this country . But most of countries have no laws about crypto and it still not regulated there .

Bitcoin is of interest to law enforcement agencies, tax authorities, and legal regulators, all of which are trying to understand how the cryptocurrency fits into existing frameworks. The legality of your bitcoin activities will depend on who you are, where you live, and what you are doing with it.

It is. Many countries have expressed their support to the cryptocurrency market with some exceptions. Right now, many have come to know and realize that the cryptocurrency, or specifically,  the bitcoin market is legitimate. Therefore, as more people from every country show support and venture in it, governments are also in the same page in recognizing that this market can do a lot of good for one country's economy.

I think this post should belong here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=74.0, there's move button in the bottom of this thread.

It's been a hot topic lately since India ban the cryptocurrency on their country, though legality of Bitcoin depends on some areas of countries because their government seize those exchanges who accept cryptocurrency. Due to the high complaints reports of being scammed about of the fraud website or pyramid scam, ponzi scheme, the government alarmed to this events and immediately banned any crypto activities.

Bitcoin is not legal nor illegal, this is how I understand it. Bitcoin uses technology to which no regulatory agency can ever control, even the government could not find ways to go over transactions involving cryptos but even if government do not support it, this bitcoin continue to run in the market and people still get the chance to earn from it. We can do trading, buying online product, paying bills thru bitcoin and that's fine. Bitcoin is free from any legality issues since it's decentralized.

Hello everyone! In my understanding Yes, it is legal but first of all you need to rely on the country of residence. Somewhere it was legalized, and then try to impose restrictions.

I don't think it's legal or illegal, but it's definitely legitimate.  I don't even think governments can prohibit private individuals from investing/trading this unless they are taxed businesses.

Honestly no, if Bitcoin was centralized the government has already close the platform because of the anonimty but the decentralization permit Bitcoin to survive all this years, but now the legality of Bitcoin depend really on which country(the juridiction) you live and what you do with your Bitcoin so pay attention to the local low and local tax and all will be fine otherwise you will be in lawlessness.
In japan for example Bitcoin is legal and government take no tax.

It depends on what jurisdiction you are in aince different laws apply to different jurisdictions. I think in most countries, bitcoin is legal since there are no laws banning bitcoin since it is relatively new for them. Those countries who banned bitcoins also have no existing laws, but their structure permits them to preventively disallow something to prevent a certain event from happening like a market crash. Also, its legality is still in grey area since most jurisdictions are still trying to figure this all out.

Bitcoin is and was always meant to be a mode of payment and as a derivative of currency and currencies are always legal.
But again, from country to country and governments and laws, there are certain activities based over crypto which are deemed as illegal. It depends upon whats your age, where you are from and what rules and regulations your government has put over you.

well, Bitcoin is legal in 99% of the world, i guess. This means that you can buy/sell/own bitcoins, use it as a mean of payments, and it's all legal. The thing about taxes is a little bit different. in some country you have ti pay taxes, but in most of the world there is not a specific and clear tax law about cryptos.

There are some cases that bitcoin are banned on other country because of some reason,  i hate that country because they are breaking the freedom of some people who wants to get involve in crypto,  otherwise there are other country that are totally adopted/legally accepted this bitcoin,  but you have to be done some kyc process just to be eligible to use the full feature of their bitcoin wallet provider,  and im happy that my country is belong to that bitcoin friendly society. For me bitcoin is not a ilegal at some point, but not to those people who wants to take down this bitcoin.

You got the point. Being legal of bitcoin is depends on countries who have bitcoin exchange and uses by the good of communities. In some parts of the world bitcoin is illegal as they see it as the enemy to their country's future in doing some business in the market, in the world and partnership.

Bitcoin is not controlled by any government, but the legality on having and using it will still depend on the decision of the government if they will allow the coin or be ban.
Bitcoin is the only coin that no one can control as designed by Mr. Satoshi Nakamoto. The rise of bitcoin is the acceptance of every country and a fall of it once banned.
