Actually in your initial example...

It means that exchanging btc for another currency may oblige you to show in person.

This rather means that currencies other than btc are not anonymous, isn't it?  Roll Eyes

And in fact there are dedicated websites that allow you to exchange btc for other currency without showing up in person. "You" remain a wallet, a succession of caracters and numbers. Not so personal, is it?

Bitcoin isn't anonymous at all. If you aren't careful then it will be easy to track you and discover your real identity. There are plenty of ways to stay anonymous: make transactions only through TOR network (in case you don't want any node to know your real IP address), use mixing services and use only fake accounts on the exchanges so they can't be associated with your real name (probably it is illegal).

Definitely illegal  Cheesy Cheesy
I mean more and more exchanges nowadays have to obtain you prove of identity so you can not mess it if you want to buy or sell cryptocurrencies on their website.
So it isn't a big dealer those who have the database account of the exchanges to discover who you really are, and how money you have trade/have/sell and do whatever they want to do with that information.

You see, the point here is not protect anyone who makes bad thing but everyone from being potentially persecuted.

Bitcoin is only psuedo anonymous unlike altcoins like Monero,Zcash. Its true that all transactions are registered in a public ledger. But our transactions are unknown to any one unless we reveal our transaction publicly.

Only if we fill the KYC details when we open an account in an exchange, government could trace our transactions. If you are still concerned about your privacy in using bitcoins, then you could use any of the bitcoin mixing services to  hide your identity.

You are right.
Even if you use mixing services someone they can truck you down. i mean if someone discover the way of their algorithm they can go reverse and find where you store your funds and in this way they can know who you actually are.

In this way every amount you have is no more anonymous  Angry

yes, the only way to be truly anonymous is pay and be paid with cash in exchange for BTC personally by hands.
Is it though? In order to make such a meeting you need to use a phone, text messages, a public place. Basically with every step of finding and successfully meeting with a person face to face you lose at least some part of the "anonymity" if not all.

You are quite right, unless you use it the anonymous tool such as encrypted ( REAL ) P2P you are free to revel to anyone what you are doing.
I mean bypassing exchanges you can be truly anonymous.

Yes, BTC is really anonymous. They can know your wallet address, but they can't know who owns it. You are still safe.

I guess you didn't read this thread, maybe even never read anything deep about bitcoin, because it's nonsense what you describe.

It is pseudonymous, as already mentioned several times. Only when you buy and change it with cash and use it for buying/selling things without ever given your identity it will be very hard to link you to your account, but as soon as any of them changes (you bought or sold using your bankaccount, you bought things send to your home) nothing is anonymous.
And even when you take those precautions, parts of your transactions can be linked to your IP account. And because blockchain is publicly available, one link immediately shows all links.

Yes obviously coins are anonymous because whenever we buy and sell in terms of this digital currency any type of personal information regarding the holder is not required at all. However perfection in terms of anonymity cannot be achieved via bitcoins.

So no one can completely declare it as anonymous because it is somewhat pseudonymous. We all know that any type of exchange is not traceable and hence it provides a greater level of security to the consumers.

Bitcoin is not a full anonymous. It only makes you anonymous if you don't want to be exposed to the person that you are transacting with but it is not full anonymous because the record of your transactions are in the blockchain which can be seen by everyone so i think that it is not really anonymous but there are coins that are full anonymous like monero.

Bitcoin is anonymous to a degree.

You do not have to use your credit or debit cards to purchase Bitcoin, you can complete cash transactions via meet ups or Bitcoin ATM's and at that point there is no tie to your bank accounts. However, Bitcoin is really only pseudonymous. You use an alter ego, or a pseudonym, in order to complete transactions and move BTC. However, every coin carries with it a history as it moves through the blockchain. Sooner or later, if needed, that coins history can be traced back to certain accounts and transactions which are called into question. There are other coins that use a technique called "mixing" which essentially erases each coins history, and those coins are anonymous.

So, in conclusion, yes, Bitcoin is anonymous, but be careful, Bitcoin's level of anonymity is by no means invincibility.

Everyone can create an wallet in a snap of course without giving any identity also.

And the transaction is secure, encrypted and whatever, BUT are your wallet truly anonymous?

It has a private password and that’s ok when you keep all the BTC in there . I mean IN and OUT.
But when you want to change your BTC with other CCs that’s where you can get pubblic. On the exchange and in many other ways.

Just keep it in mind
Bitcoin is definitely anonymous because the creator is undefined and can be recognized and it is very secure for the transaction. If your wallet is secure ? I think some wallet is not legit and some are legit and secure.

Not really. You seem to know less about bitcoin. It is actually pseudonymous. Your transactions can be linked back to you and all wallets you own. Just google "pseudonymous bitcoin" and you will get to know what it means.

When one converts Bitcoin into local currency it is definite that transactions will come under the eyes of government but one invested money over Bitcoin and then transactions are made it will be completely annomoyus. Also if shopkeeper or online sites start accepting Bitcoin then transactions will be untracked.

Not at all because there is an alpha numerical ID for every bitcoin account and a ledger. Because of these two things you can never be 100% fully anon. The best you can do is be semi-anon. And this is why privacy coins like Dash, Monero, DeepOnion, and more will crush moving forward imho.

no one can track you ip   +1 for anonymous

no one can see your password   +1 for anonymous

Somehow, you can and likely will get followed with such a mindset, particularly if there is a specific purpose behind somebody to do as such. We need to acknowledge that Bitcoin all alone won't offer us any valuable level of obscurity, which is the reason there are blenders to give us that additional layer of security. Grin Grin

For me it is. If you use the tails operating system together with a few other tools like tor browser you can become almost invisible. Even if you use bitcoin in normal operating systems like windows still it is anonymous. People can look in the blockchain ledger where funds have gone but cannot correlate between that and your real identity. To be sure use the tails operating system if you are in countries where the government is tracking a lot of your online activities.

It doesn't matter what you use. If you withdraw funds from an exchange or whatever service, your information is tied to these coins. From that point they can basically follow every step you set, and that without any actual effort. You'll need to mix your coins in order to gain more privacy, but then still you will not achieve total anonymity. One way or another, you can and likely will get traced with such a way of thinking, especially if there is any particular reason for someone to do so. We have to accept that Bitcoin on its own will not offer us any useful level of anonymity, which is why there are mixers to provide us that extra layer of privacy.

Unfortunately, Bitcoin isn't completely anonymous. However, if you take proper steps there is a high chance that nobody will be able to discover your real identity. The best thing about Bitcoin is that you don't have to go to bank and sign a lot of papers to get a new account. You can generate a new address even on a device which is not connected to the internet.

As long as you don't exchange it into real funds it remains anonymous, but as soon as you exchange it for dollars or euros you become known unless you print it out and sell it on the street for the cold hard cash. Also every move of BTC from wallet to wallet gets logged, so any amount of BTC can be traced back to how far they want to check. But since on a backtrace the BTC splits into zillions of other wallets, you'll get a treebranch format the further you go, meaning more work to find out the origin. Untill the US government does not get the option to be able to freeze any wallet adress as they see fit, BTC can be moved anonymously. I wonder how long it will take before the US will get that option after having seized tons of BTCs from raiding one darkweb after another.
