And ethereum deserves to be the king of altcoins now and in the future, because nothing can match it and only speculation will exist and there are altcoins that replace ethereum, but they don't work.
And what I see is that the price of ethereum right now is almost close to $40K and this is an all-time high and it will most likely go even higher. And investors still believe and there will continue to be investors who consider ethereum to be the best investment after Bitcoin in terms of long-term profits. Now to answer your question, Ethereum is King of Altcoins? I don't consider it as a King or whatever it is at all. I think using the word "King" to an altcoin is kind of irrelevantat all. The word "King" is being used to a male person or maybe some animals, but not on an altcoin or any coin

If you may permit to say this because I believe we are all here to learn from each other, for me I don't see anything wrong with use of that work king as attributed to ETH as the king of altcons reason being that words has contextual meaning and denotative and kind in this concept is referring to it's contextual meaning, that is by the way ETH has significantly second Bitcoin from creation and in market capitalization and has stayed long enough without being dump unlike some abandoned projects but has consistently follow Bitcoin back to back in the market capitalization that is one of the reasons why it has been considered as king of altcoins.
for now there is no doubt to say ETH is the king of altcoins, but in the future there may be an altcoin that can beat ETH and become the new king of altcoins. nothing is impossible because technology continues to develop and innovation continues. Every time there are new altcoins that emerge bringing the latest innovations and more sophisticated technology. yes I know it probably won't happen in a short time but in the world of crypto nothing is impossible.

if we are talking about the gas fee in which maybe the developer can do something about it then I guess, i guess it somehow could raise the ethereum position as you have stated earlier.the thing though there have been many efforts and overall the current problem are nowhere to be solved.
the l2 instead of taking off some transactions instead making eth fee high as well you see the contract that these L2 used to submit their transaction to the L1 its always becoming among the top gas guzzlers, though arguable because of these L2 people could make their transaction in the L2 and get cheaper fee but it doesn't resolve the problem that ethereum L1 is having.
the gas fee right now minimum is 50 gwei floating around that to 100 which is kinda massive. to be honest not to mention ethereum nearing all time high just make things worse.

For now, Ethereum remain the King of the Altcoins and what is surprising is that with all the funding that all these Ethereum killers received including the all these L2s that are receiving attention now, Ethereum is still far ahead, I think Binance chain is the closest to Ethereum, but it has not being able to sustain the growth or catch up
Binance chain is just copy of Ethereum chain.. The popularity of BSC chain is due to Binance exchange.. People trust BSC chain and number of partnership of big projects are because of high demand of community. Bsc chain is good to save fee but there is no project still launched which will be competitive of the Ethereum..
Bsc chain is also popular due to its low charging fee and how some projects are built under its Blockchain. The authentication of ETH over BSc arise due to much fake projects built under BSc. Most investors highly trust projects built on ETH Blockchain to that of BSc. This has given ETH more upper hand than BSc in the crypto space.

I think Ethereum will be replaceable in the future. Maybe it will take a very long time. The only coin that will not be replaced is Bitcoin. Ethereum and other altcoins will compete for position as first. Currently, many people have started to use other coins for transactions such as LTC, ADA, DOT, Matic and even BSC. Even though there are some that are layer-2 of the ethereum system, coins such as matic and bsc can provide much lower transaction costs than ethereum.

if we are talking about king of altcoin i think even though arguably it can be crowned to ethereum, lets be frank here, even though each altcoin has its own uniqueness, but it still somewhat derive from the smart contract system that are presented by ethereum nowadays.despite there are some that uses different engine than EVM but arguably they are still using the same concept as ethereum, smart contract, and also ethereum is the most widely used altcoin right now, the fee alone is a proof that there's not any lack of people using it instead people always soght after it, overall if i were to choose which coin deserve the title of a king from these alone i would easily say without the need to think that ethereum definitely deserve to be called that.

I think that it is still valid to call it the king of altcoins nowadays. It's based on its current market cap and the contribution that it did to the market. Knowing that it's where the smart contracts came from or if not, it's the one that has got a lot of projects that have used it until they've got their own mainnet. Until now, there's still too many projects that chooses to have their chain on it but they're no longer the only option nowadays as there are also a lot of interesting projects that have copied the style of ETH on how it became successful.

No doubt ETH is the best when dealing with altcoins, investors still know the fact but they insist in spreading their investment, if the choice is left for me to choose I will go for bitcoin and ethereum. Ethereum is big because of its ecosystem, BNB tried to go the same path but couldn't. As long as more crypto use Ethereum blockchain it will remain on the top of all altcoins. Solana is doing it differently and that is why it has grown so fast. It will be able to challenge BNB but it will take a lot of efforts to beat Ethereum from.where it sits now. I don't think a future without two cryptocurrencies the first one being Bitcoin and the second on is Ethereum.
