Gambling is indeed a hobby. Most persons might ague this because they think making gambling a hobby means you're getting addicted to it but that's not correct because the definition of hobby says "an activity that you love doing at your spare time" and that is what most of us do at our spare time. Some persons even go as far as gambling in their working hours which can  either make you loose your job or you getting addicted to gambling. I gamble when I have time for it and I make sure I don't do it in front of an underage.
Hobby will always be recreational activities that would keep us busy and we would be happy when anticipating in it but for gambling, it's out of balance and not choosing it is absolutely a wise decision. Gambling collects more money than we can actually witnessed with our eyes, whatever the case, we have to continue pushing for excellent results. Gambling is never a hobby, do we even know what it means to lose in gambling, not talking about the small losses but huge ones that will tremble our footsteps and accounts.

Gambling may be treated as a hobby but one should be careful as not to get too much involved in this hobby that you forget the money and time invested in gambling. Sometime i think that only the rich people can take gambling as a hobby while most of us will only care to gain some money from gambling and minimize our losses.

Also one should know that hobby only bring happiness, joy and relaxation throughout the time we are engaged with the hobby. Whereas Gambling do not provide us with happiness 100% of the time. The gambling can throw this balance off completely. We are are not managing the risks in gambling then gambling may lead to massive losses that can shake our stability and financial well being. Since money is involved in gambling so there is a key difference between a hobby and gambling being taken as a hobby.

It's a bad habit. Can be compared to drugs, smoke, and other stuff that are addictive.
A hobby means you may be spending for the hobby's necessities, i.e. paint if you like to paint, paint brushes, and other stuff. but not to the extent of risking something and worse, it is a high risk program so it isn't a hobby.
But there are gamblers who do it casually so I guess they might call it that. But for those who just sits and gamble the whole day, I would not call it something that you like to do but it's maybe because the gambler is chasing his losses or he became greedy and cannot stop it anymore.

Upon all those sources and explanation, I still need the community input on the argument to know if gambling is a HOBBY so that I and the person will understand more.
Cheers.

Yes! I have always argued that gambling should be seen as a form of entertainment, which is why I also answer that it can be a hobby.

Some people see gambling as a source of income, but this is much more wrong than seeing it as a hobby.
Okay, in some games a person can use strategy, learning, probabilities and mathematical algorithms to make a profit, but in most games your victory depends exclusively on luck and therefore should never be considered as a source of income.

In the case of a hobby, it's everything you play for fun (as you said) and it's obvious that some fun things cost money, not everything is free, the problem lies in the amount of money you want to spend on that fun. , and this is where many people become addicted.

It’s interesting to hear both sides of this discussion. I agree with you that gambling can be a hobby, especially when approached responsibly and seen as a form of entertainment. However, it’s crucial to recognize the fine line between a hobby and an addiction. The distinction often lies in one’s ability to control their engagement and expenditure. When gambling stops being fun and starts to feel like a necessity, it might no longer be just a hobby. That’s where the danger lies.

For many, the thrill and excitement of gambling can indeed make it a captivating hobby, but understanding and managing the risks involved is essential.

Hobby is an activity that people love doing and this activity is usually done during their spare time. While some hobbies can turn out to be a source of income, a hobby is an activity a person does without the intention of making a financial gain.

There isn’t one answer. Gambling can be a hobby, but when that hobby causes you tension and stress, it ceases to be a hobby.
I think gambling is not included in hobbies and I have never heard from anyone who says they have gambling, because any betting will not be included in hobbies because of the impact of losses that make you disappointed, stressed and financial losses, in fact if they often gamble without limiting their budget to gamble then they are already in the stage of gambling addiction.

So whatever side of gambling, I don't see gambling as a hobby even though they gamble just for fun, but if they say gambling is a hobby then that's their own opinion, so make sure that you experience high losses from gambling.

Yes I admit that gambling can be a hobby which as we know that a hobby is when we really like something and always want to do it whenever and wherever, meaning that I can confirm that gambling can be a hobby but here the OP has said that gambling can be a hobby for people who are already addicted which is not addiction is a very concerning situation with many bad effects or problems that arise simultaneously? sure, that means when gambling becomes your hobby or your favorite activity then it clearly means that you are in danger or you have entered danger.

As I said that yes I agree gambling can be considered a hobby but we also have to be wise in choosing a hobby, because gambling must always be done with money while on the other hand winning will only happen "occasionally and by chance" which means are you willing to spend all your money slowly from your hard work just to gamble? this is the importance of thinking rationally and considering everything from various sides, no one cares about you except yourself.

You know that, teaching can be someone's hobby? And teaching brings income to the Person which taught. So what you are saying indicates that you have not really gotten the understanding of hobby. You can only say that those who have taken gambling as their hobby can be easily addicted to it and tant is the truth but they can still control to only entertainment and for leisure and pleasure purpose. I have seen many comments here for both yes and no. But before you say yes you have to understand the concept so that you will know what you are saying
And not just saying no and without good explanation. If you read the Op clear justice has been given to the two terms before the main concern of the thread.

The game should really be seen as a hobby , we cannot take it as an investment or perhaps as being in a job or getting a secure income, these types of things are what we should do to be able to distract ourselves and in some cases consider how to win Money , or multiply it, but you have to see it as an option that the opposite can Happen, because in the casinos they will always have the house advantage and the house advantage makes things different, because the casinos are all companies . , they are businesses and it is what the rest of us must always Consider, that is why when we enter a casino, if we take the game as a hobby, it is the Best thing we can do, to avoid Addictions.

Gambling is fun when we play during our leisure time, not during working hours. Players who abuse these games by playing when they have less time, emotionally unstable, or are sad, end up getting themselves into mistakes. Because gambling is a game that requires concentration. Not a game played while worrying about other activities. Gamblers are more excited when they gamble after all their tasks have been completed. However, the orientation each gambler got is quite different. That's why every gambler has personal experiences with gambling.

Although, when a player is concerned about playing as a hobby, his experiences will be more fun. As he wouldn't bother about his losses or win. Because of how minimized he's made his wagering amount, just for the sake of enjoying his game. That doesn't stop the fact he could get carried away during the gambling session. Due to a change of thoughts. As a gambler, it's important to stay firm in a good strategy, like gambling as a hobby. Greed is a destroyer of this strategy, in times when the wins begin to creep in. The gambler would be facing double minds, whether to raise his wagering amount. Such thoughts may not be easily controlled if the gambler is not firmly into the strategy of enjoying his games.

It depends on what exact goal the player is pursuing, as well as his attitude towards the game. If his goal is chaotic betting, where he doesn’t need to turn on his brain, but only hopes for luck, then this resembles just testing his luck, it doesn’t even look like a hobby. A hobby is when a player devotes his free time and really enjoys this activity. He comes up with various strategies, studies teams, players when it comes to sports betting. Such players are in the middle between those who do not play the game responsibly and professionals. In general, people become professionals after this hobby was a hobby and the player was so immersed in the game that he studied all the subtle points and understood how to win against other players.

You can never take gambling as a hobby because hobbies are those things where no income comes into play. But people get addicted to gambling mainly for income. People can garden as a hobby, collect physical coins, some like to fish or some like to travel. But gambling people become addicted for pleasure but later it is not limited to pleasure but is considered as a significant means of income.
Again many use it as a means of passing time and that is fine but if one considers it as a hobby then I would say it is completely absurd.

Gambling could very well be considered a hobby and it isn’t absurd. It’s very possible to earn some money from your hobbies. That way, you would enjoy doing what you ordinarily do and make some money off it as well. A hobby is any activity that you enjoy doing at your leisure and just because you earn from doing it doesn’t mean it isn’t a hobby.
Not everyone who perhaps initially plays for pleasure ends up using gambling as a significant means of making some money. There are still some people who enjoy gambling, takes it as a hobby and still don’t see nor use it as a significant means of earning some money.
Gambling is not our hobby but our emotions make gambling a hobby. And because of this we often use gambling seriously and face huge losses. This is why we have to keep our emotions under control while gambling otherwise we can become addicted to gambling and if we are addicted to gambling we are bound to suffer big losses. Gambling is a fun thing, but gambling addiction makes gambling a nightmare for some. And that's why you should always keep yourself under control while gambling and keep your emotions under control and use very short term gambling.
You are right that gambling can never be a hobby but if one only uses gambling as his only source of entertainment then it can become his hobby. Gambling is a personal matter of everyone and how much time he spends there and how he uses gambling is also his personal matter. But if one gambles for fun only as a hobby then it will not have any negative effect on him. however, if the desire to win something gets mixed up with lustful gambling, it can have a negative effect on him.

Its just for fun and a break, not to take over. Too many people I see get stuck and lose power. You said exactly what I thought: feelings are the enemy here. People who stay calm are the best at both work and life.  Gambling is comparable. You need to be strong and in charge. Get excited for a while, play a few hands, and then leave. You're in trouble if you cant do that. You wont get rich this way; it will hurt you. Keep it simple and light.

Quote
A hobby is an activity that you enjoy doing in your spare time.

So if you gamble in your spare time and you enjoy doing it then it qualifies as a hobby, but it will stop being a hobby if you spend too much of your time and money to the point that you neglect your job and your motivation is to make money.

For gambling to become a hobby, there should be time limitations and the amount you spend is something you are comfortable of losing, if these two are not presents then it stopped being a hobby.

If others entertainment things are can be hobby then why should we have to discuss about this that is gambling a hobby. In my personal opinion there no problem to thought that gambling can be also a hobby be  even if we do make others things for as our hobby those are also have to cost some money and as well as in gambling also. And I think if people are get on those gambling that can be also hamper for him like as gambling.

First of all I will like to define hobby in my own understanding. Something that one like to do always either for pleasure, leisure or entertainment.

Hobby is something we have been used to, which has also been part of us and we are interested in how we engage on such while having fun, it can be on anything, as long as its such that gives pleasure to us when we are on the period of being entertained during our leisure time.

And example of hobbies which I know. Swimming which can be a game as well, reading which can also be a competition as " reading competition", and anything competition is a game, and sport. Sport can be someone hobby if the person love sports and like to partake in it. And that means something you partake that you have leisure and pleasure can be your hobby.

Anything can be a form of having fun to us, as long as we are being excited to see that we are having fun in it, while constantly doing such is what makes it an hobby to us, no one will make an event his hobby if he doesn't have time and pleasure in doing such continuously.

You can never take gambling as a hobby because hobbies are those things where no income comes into play.

We are in a digital age where people are constantly making money from their hobbies both offline and online, if you think gambling can never be considered as a hobby because people earn money from it, then you are far from correct. Any activity you enjoy doing always no matter the kind of activity is considered a hobby and gambling is not an exception. Hobbies can be addictive but, most people can still go about their normal lives without any form of interference.

Although it is risky taking up gambling as a hobby,  we cannot run away from the fact that gambling can actually be a hobby. There are actually some possibilities that a person who enjoys gambling always might eventually get addicted and face some bad consequences if he/she is not lucky. If the gambler in question can plan his activities very well, then he might be safe.
