Nothing lasts forever
The list 2 looks really nice and diversified into various fields.
$1k into each of them is a good amount and I think when the market rises, having this portfolio will show better results.
You can also track the history and find 9it the gains of last 1 year from these coins.
It will show you well these coins have performed over the year and may be then you can take your final call.

If we look at the market conditions that are difficult to guess like now I prefer to collect many altcoins, and until now I have around 30 altcoins with almost the same percentage, in my opinion by storing or spreading assets to many places, of course it has more potential for profit, and If calculated since the market dip a week ago My Assets also decreased by around 30%.
Now everyone who still has assets in cryptocurrencies that are not stablecoins has decreased in value so they still have to hold them until the market recovers if they don't want to lose in today's market conditions, although some people are also panicking about the current market conditions, but for me Personally there is no need to panic about it because when the market recovers only regret remains.

Having many altcoins is not a problem as long as you study well the project behind that coin and not buying based on hype. Even if you have a small capital, it doesn't mean that you can't buy many altcoins. Having more or few also have their own pros and cons. Holding many altcoins has an advantage because your investment are more diversified reducing the risk of losing your capital in an instant but it decreases the profit potential if 1 of those coins pump hard while holding less than 5 altcoins is the complete opposite of that.

I prefer quality over quantity, why have a lot of altcoins but no use cases in the future, basically most altcoins just hype for a moment when the hype has disappeared the value of the altcoin will never rise again.
Talking about quality I think it can't be separated from the top coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB,
these three coins really have quality that can't be doubted and for a long term investment of course it will be profitable,
and regarding the momentary hype it's clear that won't happen to the three coins either

I prefer to have 5 coins instead of 12 coins, because we know the volatility of the very volatile cryptocurrency market will certainly make it difficult for us to manage investments,
especially if all the coins go down and of course you have to put a stop loss if you don't want to lose big, that's why it's better to choose just a few coins than to have more coins.
of course everyone is free to choose, this is just an opinion, and maybe for you it is a trivial thing, but look at this crypto market at work

I would pick option 1 it looks balanced and suitable investment option although option 2 is quite good as well but there are so many altcoins which is obviously going to be very confusing for a normal person anyway good to see Ethereum and Matic are available in both options because these two altcoins are very capable to give good return in bullish market conditions beside this I think there should be SOL in option 1 so that would be perfect portfolio.

It is better to invest in 1 coin rather than having 5, 12 or even more random altcoins or shit coins. If you are thinking about investing in altcoins, then do something like this. Put most of your money in bitcoin and the rest in some well known altcoins. Like 2 or 3. Do your own research, look for coins that are well established and has a strong community and development team. Invest in those and keep holding till you reach your profit goal. And if you want to try your luck, invest just a little amount (like 1% of whatever you can afford to lose) and gamble with your luck.

Lets say you had to spend 12.000 USD,

would you go for option 1 or option 2?

option 1: 2.400 USD each coin = 12.000 USD total

Ethereum
Avalanche (AVAX)
Polygon (MATIC)
Chiliz (CHZ)
Enjin (ENJ)

option 2: 1.000 USD each coin = 12.000 USD total

Ethereum (ETH)
Solana (SOL)
Avalanche (AVAX)
Shiba Inu (SHIBA)
Polygon (MATIC)
Cosmos (ATOM)
Decentraland (MANA)
The Sandbox (SAND)
Gala (GALA)
Chiliz (CHZ)
Enjin (ENJ)
Keep network (KEEP)

Neither none of them contain bitcoin.  You need to start with bitcoin and trickle down from there.  But if you ever are top heavy in alts noatter the coin, you are bound to get wiped out one way or another.  Too many people have to learn the hard way.  Don't be one of them.

It really depends in your capability of managing each ones, if you find it like wasting of time diversifying too much of your investment into these various altcoins then maybe you should just stick with lesser amount of altcoins.
sometimes having fewer diversifying could also be good since you're in better control of your investment this way, also if the altcoins of your choice are mostly of a great quality, then you gonna have better return than having various altcoins investment and most of them are that of bad quality.

I know tjat diversification is one of the good ideas and strategies in vrypto wolrd. But, we must be also smart in what assets to diversify.
The amount that we are holding will depend on what coins to hold.
Personally, I will refer to have fewer amounts but this wil survive and have higher change to rise up than having much but not having good potential. Your 5 investment is litle bit interesting but why there is no BTC and also other coins like BNB, SOL, DOT? I think that you should change some lists on your investment by having more potential coins.

I only have this ethereum coin, binance coin and third shiba coin, which I have held for more than 2 years and I am not going to let it go cheap, I will keep it until the price reaches my target.
You held for more than 2 years without taking profit? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard this week, how can you grow this way? What is your gain of holding for the past two years? If you have taken profits and buy back right now you would have more Ethereum, BNB, and Shiba.

I would opt for the 5 coins option, better a few coins but of great potential eth, bnb, solana, terra, cardano here is my ideal wallet

5 potential coins would be enough when it comes to investment. What would you do with lots of coins when most of them don't have the potential and might fail in the future? It's better to have few yet you have an assurance of good profit when the market situation gets better. It's the quality that matters more than the number of variations.

Neither, I think it is a mistake to give equal weight to the coins in the way you are doing it, in my opinion the greater weight should always go towards the coins that are the most solid, will this hinder the growth of your portfolio? Perhaps, however most likely it is going to help it, someone did an experiment similar to it sometime ago and they found out that most of the gains from their portfolio came from bitcoin and ethereum anyway, so if you have them in your portfolio you should give them a greater weight than any other coin.

Either option this is not a safe portfolio first I don't see bitcoin in OP's 2 options, bitcoin is the safest coin so he dismissed it. Second, he divides the capital equally among the coins, not focusing on any coin, this is a big risk because not all altcoins develop and increase in price. If OP invested in these altcoins at the time of posting, he would probably regret that all of these coins have depreciated so much and don't know if they will ever recover.

I noticed that you don't have Bitcoin it should be your primary when it comes to investing it depends on how you can follow the development of the coin, I prefer 5 coins, with a good record in the market.
All these coins are good

Ethereum
Avalanche (AVAX)
Polygon (MATIC)
Chiliz (CHZ)
Enjin (ENJ)

But you should take a closer look at Avalanche because of what's happening to Luna, it is crashing you can replace it with a much better coin like Binance or Bitcoin.

Its always better to invest into a fewer altcoins but having great quality rather than investing into some shitcoins although you're doing your best in diversifying your investment.
I'd definitely choose the first option that you presented since sometimes managing too much investment by overly diversifying gonna be tough.
Considering that the investment isn't even that big.

In my opinion, you should have 12. I would pick the following:

CNDL
HBAR
UTNP
0xMR
NEAR
MATIC
FTM
XLM
IOTA
XRP
ENJ
BOO
