No just hold your ethereum and altcoins. You can buy bitcoin without selling your altcoins . There is solution for that or other better way if you have extra money you can buy bitcoin and you will earn more because you have bitcoin and altcoins.
There is even a better 'solution'; dump your altcoins, buy Bitcoin, long or short whatever Bitmex allows you to long or short, and your profits will be paid out in Bitcoin.

honestly, i wouldn't sell anything at this point---bitcoins or altcoins. anyone who waited this long has already seen the worst of it. selling now might not be the absolute bottom but it's highly likely you'll lose coins if you plan buy back (or miss the trade if you don't).

i prefer long term holds that i can "set and forget". i can't tell you how many coins i'd nearly forgot about that doubled, 10x'd or better. you won't get that trading on bitmex because you're paying swap interest or holding limited duration contracts, and you basically only have access to markets for the very top coins. my biggest gains in altcoins have always come from low caps that would never trade on bitmex until after most of the gains are gone.

i occasionally trade the pink sheets, particularly pot stocks, for the same reason.

Selling your ethereum for investing or buying bitcoin is one of the worst idea ever. As you can many people tend to buy now ethereum simply because of its new update that will happen in this month and one of the reason why they keep on buying ethereum is the new update of ethereum might be the reason to spike the price in the market.
Ethereum doubled in value from its lowest point. If you convert to Ethereum right now you are basically fomo buying around what could very well turn out to be near the peak. The main reason for the increase is that the price catched up to where the cut in block rewards is calculated in right now. People have had enough time to enter below $100 not that long ago, so accept being too late.

what if he doesnt have any cash and he only got eth & alts on his wallet ? I bet it is safe to sell them and switch it all for btc because btc is more valueable than any other cryptos but if he loves his alts & eth and he doesnt wanted to sacrifies it just to obtain a btc , he can also work on this forum on sig campaigns or bounty campaigns  .  other online jobs like free lancing or faucets can also earn him a crypto  .

bitcoin must be separated from eth and all coins
it IS separated from eth or any other altcoin! it was never connected anyways!

true but as long as there is profit (or in this case hope of making a profit even if it is mostly loss) they won't stop their fraudulent activities because people will continue to fall for it with that hope.

you can not dictate what other people do with their money. it is a free market and they invest their money in anything they want, in most cases they throw it away but it is still their choice. not to mention that pump and dump altcoins such as ETH are always super profitable during their pumps and super destructive during their dumps.
so i guess a better suggestion would be to be wise and only trade them to make the profit.

i think etf must approved for bitcoin only and soon
why? SEC has given no indication of changing their mind. and why would you even care about it?!!

Mentioning ETF well I believe it is a quite important decision actually, many think it will be accepted eventually. So I think short term investors should definitely care about this decision. It could happen in two months from now, and we could see a big pump after that.

Agree with the rest of your post, Bitcoin was never linked with Ethereum in any way, just some insiders taking advantage of Bitcoin to issue forked coins (Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, etc) to get free money out of it.

i didn't mean to say ETF's approval is meaningless. i was trying to say that the expectation is that it will be rejected. of course there is still a possibility of it being approved by the SEC but the chance of that happening is very small, something like 5% if i am generous which means it won't change anything in the market prior to the decision because people expect denial, afterwards if it is denied then nobody would care because again they were expecting it and if it is accepted then there will be a big rally because it would come as a surprise.

From onset the two outstanding Cryptos are bitcoin and ethereum others are just shitcoins and not popular, in fact it will take a very long time for a layman in the street to even know that there exist thousands of cryptocurrencies apart from bitcoin, even Google can testify to the fact people seek more information on btc than any other Cryptos therefore I agreed with OP for us to invest more on bitcoin.

How bitcoin rise  to 19600 usd per btc , last year?Did not you hear screams that bitcoin is the only legit investement and BTC Dominance
People must stop investing in eth and other coins , all funds of icos or coins of future must be turned into bitcoin
eth Is the head of all coins
what is the Beneficial from Curse coins ? who accept it?
If we take money  of icos and And invest in bitcoin Imagine!!!!!Must be maturity in the minds of traders
The currency of internet is bitcoin only
i think etf must approved for bitcoin only and soon

Bitcoin is already seperated with other altcoins and still on the number one spot. The growing number of altcoins is that, we are in a great competition where everyone wants to compete and provide good service. Investors will know where to put their money, if its in ICO its their choice, but bitcoin will still rise no matter what the situation is.

It's a little more nuanced than that. You're only thinking about the bear market cycle. The dynamic you're talking about actually pushes Bitcoin's price up during bull markets. During the 2017 bull market, people were buying BTC and ETH left and right so they could invest in ICO tokens. Altcoin speculation definitely increased demand for BTC and helped push its price higher than it otherwise would have gone.

Where would Bitcoin's price be if not for altcoin investors scooping BTC supply off the market? I'm guessing it would be lower than now.

I somewhat agree. Sadly, it was a short term phenomenon which did more harm than good regarding the big picture.

it looks like that now since we're so deep into the bear market, but money has been flowing back and forth between bitcoin and altcoins for years now, ever since litecoin started trading. 2017 just happened to be the biggest altcoin cycle yet. there's no doubt in my mind there will be another altcoin mania within another bitcoin bubble.

the only harm done is to the speculators looking to get rich quick. if they can't hold through a bear market (or trade their way through it), that's their problem.

God only knows what bitcoin would be worth today had the shitcoin holocaust not happened. Ethereum did unrepairable damage to crypto when the token ICOs flooded the scene. Everyone and their dogs were buying these stupid get rich quick tokens.

You want bitcoin to go up? Simple. Quit buying shitcoins. Buy btc and hodl.
Shitcoins and failed projects ruin the reputation of bitcoin, and I think this is not because of ETH but its more on the greed of the developer because they took advantage in the market that makes them more rich. We cannot blame them, they just know how to make a good money through cryptocurrency. Buying bitcoin can be a good decision, but just keep on holding with your ETH because its price will go higher.

don't just have to focus on bitcoin, but you can also invest in large altcoins like EOS and ETH. The Altcoin also has potential that is not inferior to Bitcoin.
More stable coins that have a potential and profitable in trading is on the top listed coins in CMC according to their market cap. It is better to invest in more than one coin than a single one because when times start to get nasty on your invested coins you will be crying to see to the other traders because they were the one who is gaining profit while you are in control of selling your coin.
Yeah, I’d rather to hold more coins than to focus on bitcoin because first its risky, and when it comes to invesment you should know how to diversify your money and that can minimize the risk. Sold your shitcoins and buy more of the top coins not just bitcoin but also with the altcoins that is bigger than what you think. The price of bitcoin is cheap but there’s no need for you to do all in.

You can take profit now with ETH, but you must analyze first the market before making any moves. Its too risky to do all in investing because no matter how big bitcoin is, its price will still dump so don’t make any big expectation and do investing that is in favor to you. If you think your altcoins can’t give good profit, then its time for you to take more risk and invest with bitcoin.

It depends on what you expect from bitcoin.

If you think that bitcoin will be capable of outpacing the other coins on growing and increasing in price than it is a great idea. However if you think there is a chance altcoins outperform bitcoin (historically quite possible) than it wouldn't make any sense.

When bitcoin goes down some of the other coins go down even faster, like bitcoin goes down 5% while ethereum goes down 15% or that type stuff however when the bitcoin price goes up than the altcoins go up faster like bitcoin goes up 5% while ethereum goes up 15% at the same time. It means if you trust that bitcoin will go up, buy something else like ethereum, if you think bitcoin will go down than keep your money at bitcoin no matter what. That is a valid strategy even whales use daily.

et is a very potential type of altcoin, although in recent months ethereum has experienced a very sharp decline but in early 2019 ethereum again showed its existence as the king of altcoin and returned to second place after the king of cryptocurrency (Bitcoin)
therefore, ethereum has good potential to be used as a long-term investment asset

Ethereum has come down the value from its peak value. With cryptocurrency it isn't possible to give a perfect growth schedule. It gradually bumps and dumps based on the market circulation. People who got the ability to hold for a longer time period will profit out of ethereum as well other cryptocurrencies. In particular whenever there is growth in bitcoin, ethereum too grows.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
With the upcoming decrease of block reward for Ethereum, I think it's actually a pretty good time to speculate or even invest.
See, at least I have some valid reasons in my statement, not just simple propaganda.

(However, please use your judgement when investing money, don't just follow the advises of unknown people over the internet.)
That is probably the main difference between those that become successful in this market as investors and the majority of people, you have very clear reasons why you invest in ethereum and probably other coins, while the majority invest their money based only on their feelings or what they read in social media, they do not want to use their judgment because to do that you will need to learn about the subject and that requires time and effort, something the majority do not want to invest.
