well if someone wants to get around it with a script they can
Yes, but the script would have to wait 4 hours refreshing. That may not be attractive to spammers who want to post messages in seconds.

well if someone wants to get around it with a script they can, it only punishes the real people.  No offence but the conversation here isn't quite as good as elsewhere : ) ok maybe not true

It's annoying when you've already stalked the forum w/o registering for hours on end trying to find the answers you need --- read everything you can and want to and then by the time you give up and decide to ask for help, realize you can't... Cry
^^

I should have signed up when I first started lurking. In the future, I'll be careful to check if other boards having similar policies.

Lmao.. This about sums it up for many a people that register here, I'm sure. But, at least you know where everything is. I guess that's another reason, as stated before, for the noobie status. So on top of excluding all the spam and BS, it also makes one have to go through this Noob forum to read through for four hours while searching for places to effectively post lol. How many actually read anything, though, is another discussion altogether lmfao. XD

The newbie thing isn't that hard, I guess... But it does seem to make me want to post a few unimportant posts just to get my 5 in... Guess this thread is as good a place as any!

I joined the forum simply to post on a thread I'd found on a Google search. By the time I'm allowed to post, my comment will be long past meaningful.

Nevermind, it just takes a while for new posts to flush into the system. I just successfully posted a new message.

Also, why can't I create PMs yet? I thought my first post would allow me to do that.

I think its a good way to keep the occasional spammer or one-time questioner away from this site. There is always bitcoins.stackoverflow.com for quick questions.
