Here in Nigeria, we normally use this term “las las school na scam”. Now the question is (is school really a scam)
Many people in Nigeria after spending six years in junior and senior secondary and four to six years In the university we end not doing what we studied in school. I’ve come across a master degree holder pushing wheelbarrow in the market just to survive.

School is not really a scam but like my mom always say “go to school and hold your papers”. You may finish school but find it hard to see a benefiting work to do. You may still finish school and see work to do.

Above all governments should should job opportunities for people to work that way Nigeria can or may be a great Nation

School no be scam for my place ooh, school na another way of building your life, let us forget about the government first, if you are well educated my brother you will dey different with person wey no go school even your wiseness go pass him own, although we know say for this our Nigeria wey we dey so government no dey give people job and many graduate dey do Okada and all those hard work, but we should also remember that our destiny no be the same, you fit graduate now make you get  work first people wey Don graduate pass more than 10 year's, so na waiting you go think be that.

But u still dey wonder why some of our graduate dey push wheelbarrow, I want to ask, those people really study the way we are doing this days because if you are well educated you must have another way of building yourself or having another business that can help you to achieve something, I know that we are not the same but let check this out very well, did those people who are wheelbarrow pushers really study well because before when you have a good result no matter how you must get work, not now that everything Don change.

Not at all, school is never a scam. This slangs is born out of people who don't know the purpose of it Myles Munroe said "when purpose is not known abuse is inevitable". We are in  a world especially in Nigeria were people don't care about your academic qualification but rather your riches or wealth you possess, even those who rich and wealthy still looks for those to manage their wealth and riches.

School is not meant for everyone, it's meant for those who want to acquire knowledge, developing the power of reasoning and judgement and being a professional. In life, knowing your purpose is very important. If going to school is not your purpose in life or you have other purposes in life doesn't make school a scam

I come in peace to this side of the Board. I like to be alone on a cases like this because what I think is always differ and different. When someone USED either in knowledge or in monetary dealing or others it becomes a scam. Now what is scam? From the connotation meaning and not the denotation meaning, in connotatively, scam is when you have been used by another person and the person run away. In other words you do something to someone to get rewards but irony was found from it. Someone take your things and run away, someone chase you away because he is stronger than you when you have been used. And before students tagged education as scam, they have experienced a lot from it and they can't just tagged it has scam. Poor parents send their children to school to be educated and come back to the society and help humanity through the help of the government. Most of you have forgotten the core purpose of the colonial masters to create formal education in the country. And 1954 educational system and it reform and  the 1954 educational setting was carried.out in the first Republic in Nigeria, do you know that the Northern part of the country was against education? Here we are talking about education and not graduating from school to look for job. Before people say "Education na Scam", it has meaning and reason, they are not just saying it. It is the duty of the government to provide enabling environment for business and other personal services to operate freely and in return tax will be paid back to the government and also it is the duty of the government to address the "Macro Economic Deficiencies". And the government is very happy keeping man in perpetual poverty. How many graduates in Nigeria are successful on their own? Some time when discussion like this come to the scene, we should not just dash in and say anything but calm down and think the cardinal points of the argument.

Here we have the dictionary meaning of scam.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/scam
Quote
scam

2 of 2
verb

2

and also English Dictionary

Quote
Noun
scam (plural scams)
A fraudulent deal. Or Something that is promoted using scams.

Now when you look at these now you would understand that, the education that is given us too is a scam because the real education not giving to us. And the government nis not interested to help us again after the first and the second Republics. Do you know that people spend a lot of money in school and finished school. For more than 10 years, they have not gotten 1,000,000 in their accounts so you want those people to say that school is a good for them. Normally life no supposed hard for Nigerians youths but the government make everything hard for us. Even cryptocurrency dat we dey use am dey manage, government banned am. It is only those who really understand education have the likewise feeling. The core meaning of education is no more in Nigeria. And that cause the clause " School is Scam". Some people are saying if you were not educated you won't come to the forum, I laughed. Well according to an Educationist, "Your Destiny is in Your Hands" "you can become anyone you want to be if you wish it life. You don't have to blame anyone because your destiny is with you and not with your parents". The government has defrauded us through education.they deceive us, they said, we are they leaders of tomorrow. Who is president nownad how hold is he?

In my own opinion school is not a scam but due to how things are being done in this country and how a graduate are being treated in this country Nigeria,in this country graduate are being treated like an illiterate, while an illiterate are being treated like a graduate..in my country today employment is not about your educational qualifications rather it's all about your connection....

This is a complicated question, and the answer may depend on the individual's perspective. Some people argue that school is a scam because it does not guarantee success in life, and it can lead to a lot of student debt. Others argue that school provides a valuable education and opens up opportunities that would not otherwise be available. Ultimately, whether or not school is a scam depends on how the individual defines the term. For some, it may be a way to gain knowledge and skills, while for others, it may be a waste of time and money.

The argument that school is a scam often focuses on the cost of education and the lack of guarantee of a job or financial success after graduation. For many students, college is very expensive, and they may end up with a significant amount of debt. In addition, there is no guarantee that a college degree will lead to a job or a higher salary. In fact, many college graduates end up working in jobs that do not require a degree. However, others argue that education is never a waste, even if it does not lead to financial success. The knowledge and skills learned in school can be valuable in many ways, and can help individuals to a promoinent person in the world...

That person go school no means say him go rich over night but him advantages to the global world plenty pass person wey no go. Because school here include primary, secondary and University. Look nothing one is doing without applying little knowledge gather through these learning stages one this is sure school no go favor every body but know knowledge is waste even you today can testify that your doing most things because of how your exposed to some level of knowledge.

It depends on how you understand this notion, school is not a scam, is just that Nigerian's uses this slogan because how things are been done in the country, some people has finished school for over 16 years or more without a job or even anything doing that's why people are been advised to learn a skill in other to survive here if not, there is no job anywhere, even though there are any people in the corridor of power have secured such positions for their relatives, this why you hear this slogan all the time, today in this country, you will someone who only attended secondary school but he or she is an employer of huge labour, our generation should only depend on school only but rather they should develope a productive mindset by engaging in meaningful skill that will be helpful to them and the society at large.

Education is never a scam even though you ends up not establishing in ligns of what you studied there in school.
Benefits of education is not just securing professional jobs but offers the the diverse knowledges to literarily rapport, associates and contributes meaning opinions at the edges around the edges you finds yourself.
Education would nurture you on how to privately comport yourself meaningfully in and outside the societies

I know say the country don cast and job no really dey. Even the small one wey dey, nepotism dey play a big role. If you no know person to help you secure am, my brother that mean you dey on God, you gat pray well well. However, no be because of this kind of things go make us conclude say school na scam. School no fit be scam, even if you no get to use your certificate work, the exposure and experience you get from school go help in the business you set up and other affairs of life.

"The School is a scam" statement is only used in Nigeria. And the fore reason is because of the value placed on it by the government. The budget for travels or renovation of the Vice President's office or that for cars for senators is three times higher than that for education. We can look at history and see public office holders President, Governors and other with very questionable educational certificates holding offices. But in reality, let us tell ourselves the truth, SCHOOL IS NOT A SCAM. There are many Nigerians who are succeeding in Nigeria without government help but with their school certificate. These women Miriam Olusanya – GT Bank, Yemisi Edun – FCMB, Halima Buba – SunTrust Bank, Ireti Samuel-Ogbu – Citibank Nigeria, Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe – Fidelity Bank, Tomi Somefun – Unity Bank, Kafilat Araoye – Lotus Bank are the MD/CEOs leading 9 Nigeria's largest Banks and they are all went to school. More proof that School is not a scam.

I’ve come across a master degree holder pushing wheelbarrow in the market just to survive.
Yes, there are and there are even those who do worse but what I will tell you is that there are more educated people in well paid jobs and doing business than there are those who didn't go to school.

School can never be a scam to me... because If I no go school the respect I dey get from places way I dey go I no go get am. Just imagine person way no go school go fit speak for public or address e self for public wel with better intellectual vocabularies. The answer is NO.

All this school na scam started from our so called yahoo boys spoiling the mindset of our young youth to leave academy for fraud. And one thing way dey vex me pass an say them think say the yahoo go last forever, not knowing that nothing lasting forever... (Anything that has a start most surely have an end) so my advice to my fellow youth, is that they for go to school and acquire the knowledge they deserve. Every man success lies in their hands and in their academic success.

I knew when people started school na scam is when the so-called yahoo (cybercrime or fraud) started. So, a lot of persons who got their hands into it earlier become rich and famous, so this made so many students to go into it and usual they got money from it. Before you know people especially student started to have the thought that what is the essence of school if you can become rich just by pressing your devices and defrauding people of their hard-earned money.

IMO school is not a scam. Now this is my point. School is a place for education and for us to be in school we have to choose a discipline of which we will focus our attention on. But this is not the only thing we learn while we are in school. Discipline is the educational part of going to school. School affects us both in moral religious, financial, economic and social part of our life.

The people saying school na scam. If they can't read and write and know how to keep healthy intelligent conversations will they be successful in the yahoo or whatever they are doing. The little knowledge they have been able to grab while in school have helped them to be successful in what they are doing. School is a place for opportunities buddy, a place for making concrete collaboration, business partners and build a fan base. The school environment is one of those places that you can showcase your talent and so many persons would appreciate and support you.

OP, do you know that, if someone is going to apply for a job. Even if the job is a mini job, they do specify that the applicant should be a graduate and have completed NYSC. Now the world is going to the era, that if you do not have the least certificate, you will find it difficult to get a job even if it is working for someone. People know that the population of graduate without employment is high so they would rather choose a graduate for any positions and those who just finished SSSC will stand a lower chance to get opportunities.
I believe i have given you enough points to make you understand the importance of education and going to school in the society.

Despite say job no dey our country e no mean say going to school na scam. The things we find ourselves doing right now it is because of the education we have in us that's why it is easy for us to do them. If not for education e for no dey easy for us to do so many skills wey we find ourselves doing. The programming,  data analysis,  cyber security etc, all this  as an Illiterate e no go easy to cope with all this skills , so I think education no be waste. Education na waste when person think say him need to get only job.

Personally I believe school is not a scam though in Nigeria our case is different as many other 4th world countries this is caused by when you have a government that doesn’t care about the growth of a country which is the problem in Nigeria,
Since 1999 we’ve had series of government come in and out without critically dealing with the issue of the nations growth but for their personal growth.
So many people need school to achieve their dreams in life you can’t look at such a person and say to him that school is scam you’ll be shattering his dream but that is exactly what our leader have done ruined the dreams of many Nigerians
Since we were kids till present day we always hear the saying “Children are the leaders of tomorrow” we were only ignorant to realize they really meant there children Nigeria now looks like a royal kingdom in which the politicians rule and on their passing the positions are passed down to there children look into the current day sitting politicians you’ll find out many of them directly or indirectly have blood relations who have ruled Nigeria one way or the other.

One of the worst perception ever, probably sold by school drop out and the rest. First, school is for acquiring knowledge,as learning is part of every day life, and making practical use of this knowledge in real life.Unfortunately the society we live in can not provide job for all its educated or graduate per say,but nevertheless having that knowledge alone puts you already a step ahead of someone that does not have a tall.it is better you have a school qualification, and job hasn't come ,than you don't have, and an opportunity comes your way that requires Degree and you no get,is crazy.  I remember how I got the motivation to start a university degree.I visited one of the Residential Areas of an oil company,on reaching there I saw life people are living, cars young boys are driving, company providing them everything you can imagine to make life beautiful, and I said to my self I must go school,I eventually trained my self in school.althou is not a guarantee you will be there with them, but the fact that you have the knowledge first ,have the paper, you never know what life might bring your way. And also in addition to getting a degree, get also a skill to compliment that.

Gone are the days when I used to partake in chanting that school na scam.
Sincerely, without school it the process of teaching involved, I doubt the possibility of any newbie learning about cryptocurrencies would be possible because when one can't read or write it understand basic English language, how will such a one be even able to make reasonable comments or posts or learn skills that would be of immersive benefits?

School no be scam and anybody wey dey see school as scam no know say him don already tramsgress go another way of mental thinking wey no go benefit am at all. To me, that phrase wey be say dem dey talk say “las las School na scam” I just take am like say na cruise and dem just dey talk am to have fun neh. But the real people wey go school and know wetin dem benefit from school no dey call am scam. Even as you no get work through your field of study, e no mean say wetin you study for school don dey useless be that. You fit dey tap from the blessings of the knowledge wey school don give you for your daily activities or hustle.

We no see the government no dey try for us and the management no dey encouraging for those wey dey still dey go the school. Las las, if na d school way you go use chop, you go definitely get work through am but in no be true am, better one go come. Even if today I get big establishment wey I fit use feed my generation, that school na must a most for all my pikins to go because what is shared and achieved in school cannot be getting elsewhere again. School is important for all and it is not a scam.

School is not a scam, better know this and ignore those ignorant that term school as scam. Without school, no education and you need education to survive anywhere and it doesn't mean school as the one you need to go class or any place, even your parent house is a school because you learn one or two things everyday as you stay with them. You can't call school is a scam because if you don't go to school, how ae you going to read and write, if you don't go to school, how are you going to speak fluent english or you want to end up like the market women that find it difficult to communicate because they can't speak english, they are sending you to school so you don't end up like them.

However, the problem is that if you are going to school to graduate with hope of having job after is the scam because the Job across every sector in Nigeria is over saturated, there is no job because they are scarce. Going to school should be for you to improve on your studies and improve your brain and then get a skills while doing every other academic activities, with this you can get something doing even after school. You can finish school and get job outside Nigeria which you can travel out or choose to do remote job if you want to stay, you need school to get many things in life, even to become a politician, you need school.

OP you should ask yourself this question like if school was a scam, can you be able to navigate through forums of this nature where you interact with people all over the world. School can never be a scam because inasmuch as life is concerned, no matter how our government have made it look as if our going to school is a waste, I tell you that if you know the pain people that didn't have the opportunity to attain formal education are facing then you will be glad you went to school regardless of the fact that majority of our graduates are jobless but that should not make us to lose interest in education as we need education in other to relate and interact with others across the globe on how to proffer solutions to world problems so without gaining a formal education it will definitely be difficult to interact with other people.

To me, if you studied in school, you should focus more on creating a source of income for yourself and not waiting for any source of survival because waiting for a well-paid job is just like waiting for a good source of survival, which after you retire, you might end up suffering from. Feeding will be hard for you, but if you focus on creating job opportunities for yourself and others or open an entrepreneurship programme to teach and gain more on it, you will definitely prosper.

Although many Nigerians have that mentality of expecting a government or salary job, which to me is just and upgraded slavery because your life will definitely be limited in some angles, even your experience must be limited, everything in your life will be controlled by that small token being given to you every month, so to me, school is not done to get a job, but it is done to acquire knowledge and use it wisely.

One thing most people tend to overlook is the fact that school goes beyond just studying a course. School is a place where you meet different people from different places and different ideology about everything. It is also a place where people meet lifelong friends who are closer than brothers.

It is public knowledge that most times what you study isn't what serves as your source of livelihood so depending on government isn't exactly wise hence the need to study beyond your course.

We live in computer age, where virtually everything is IT controlled or related, so taking up an online course in any area of IT or learning about IT isn't a bad idea.

This isn't something you need the federal government to provide. Yes having a degree isn't bad but we all know the real thing that gets the job is the skill you have not the degree you hold.
