Nowadays most of the ICO and Faucet applications are using Telegram and Telegram Bot's because it's easy to use and it has no cost like hosting, domain and etc.

I think the telegram is a good ico communication platform, you can meet a group of people who have the same ico as you, and you can exchange information together, which is great.

i have actually seen an ico with 50k telegram members and still failed.... and i had to buy the ico too feeling that even if itfails we ll complain via the telegram but they disbanded the telegram after the project failed  so dont judge  by the number telegram members

I think the majority of people in those telegram groups dont even check it regularly. The numbers are bloated by bounties and telegram campaigns.

I believe Telegram can easily be one of the KPI's for an ICO through number of participants, sent messages and interaction level.
At the end ICO depends on its supporters and telegram is one way to create your community to convey your messages live and create the buzz around your project.
More a project is active in Telegram, more the community engages with it as a result higher expectation for a successful ICO.

Telegram is like a group chat like in messenger a group chat where the members in there share the same interest (class, friends, coworkers) of course a group that has a lot of member in it is great but it is not the basis of success in ICO because a huge number or group in the telegram shows how many people are interested in the group  interested in a way they want to gain knowledge and understanding about the product or project but not necessarily they are in to it.

Telegram stole the idea from the E-CHAT project. Look here https://investors.echat.io/news/article/536

Until the end of time
Today's ICO people see telegram community as been ICO success but that is not the case most times. Most ICO gives airdrop for joining their telegram group and people will jump in and full the telegram to get airdrop.

That the telegram community is pretty big doesn't mean the project is a success. The first thing i check is what's making people to join?
If people are joining because of interest in the project then it could be a successfully project.

As Telegram is getting more and more popular in general, ICOs will focus more on them than in the past. So they're getting more important by time.

I'm sure that Telegram ICO will be the most successful so far. As I heard soft cup is $500M and hard cup $1.2B. Some experts say it can raise up to $2B which is insane! I'm sure that it's possible, because Telegram is a brand and people trust Durov.

I don't advise the number of people in Telegram to consider orentiry because participants can be bought (most often and occurs)

Been seeing projects' Telegram groups blow up and I think that's an attribute of success. Personally, when I find a project, I do judge them by their social media presence. How active a telegram channel does say a lot with their demand.

With the rise of groups exceeding Telegram's 50k member cap...what do you guys think?

Telegram is important when it comes to marketing and supporting. It's a bridge to the community that wants to participate in ICOs.

I think it may be true because now many projects discuss in Telegram. if the group members are huge it means that many people are  interested in the project.
Listen to my number one fan a.k.a digaran2, if a project has a huge Telegram members, it means that you can trust their *devs, you can trust their members too, because it is impossible to have fake accounts. you could buy numbers and activate your accounts for $0.2 per number.

Project itself doesn't matter, only Telegram users, I'm going to expand advertisements for activity tokens on Telegram, do you think Telegram has any replay protection?

I don't think it guarantees its success but it's a good tool to get to know the team and keep up to date on how, what and when about the project/ICO. I like to join a telegram of a ICO i'm interested in as do most investors I think.

Is a great indicator to see the success of an ICO, if a telegram has 10k to 20k participants it indicate how investors and participants have subscribe to it and the believe that it will be a good ICO. Not only Telegram, twitter and facebook is also a good indicator.

I don't think so because if a coin fails it's Telegram could still be huge even though it's irrelevant.
but if the chat does not have bots, but only real people, then this is a very important indicator

My only question is: why Telegram? Why did it become the de facto main platform for ICOs? Why not discord for example?

I would argue that both Telegram and Discord are measures of a successful crypto ecosystem. Investors use both to research a platform. talk with the developers and decide whether to invest their hard earned capital. Discord is starting to displace Slack since Slack is known to have security vulnerabilities.

I agree. I personally prefer Discord over Telegram (because of how simple it is, doesn't need phone number, more privacy, user interface, etc).

Also generally, the more platforms - the better right? Just have everything just in case, why not? Maybe except slack though like you mentioned.  Grin
for me personally, phone number is one of important thing to prevent fake account/fake person.

Not really, I personally invested a lot in AChain whilst it was up, only to see it go crashing down this last week over 60%. The telegram is very active however like most telegrams it's simply filled with speculators discussing price and exchanges, with little discussion about the actual project itself. I prefer discord where specific channels for speculation are kept separate to the main channels relating to the core project discussion. For me Telegram is just a flood of speculators.

It is just part of knowing the project, an actual source of information for the investors if the project will succeed or not. Because in telegram you can monitor how the dev is active discussing with potential investors. But some ico were successful even the group doesn't talk much about the project with the investors like meetip.
