I wouldn't go that far and Napoli isn't the first club that experienced a nose dive after playing an extraordinary season. There are plenty of examples, but rarely did any top club dump like that. They are not only missing the Champions League, but the Europa and Conference League on top of that. Napoli is in shambles. Since Spalletti left the club they now signed the third coach! First Rudi García, then Walter Mazzarri for only three months and now Francesco Calzona and nothing changed at all. The last five games were a loss, draw, draw, loss and draw. They have no other choice but to sack the coach again and give it a new try next season. This is really an immense loss in recognition and standing in the football world. I see no chance whatsoever that Osimhen will still be playing for Napoli after the summer transfer period.
Napoli are not among the top 6 teams in the points table. Napoli is ninth in the table. In the previous season, this team achieved 90 points. Napoli have only managed to score 51 points in 35 matches this season. I don't think we have seen such a big decline in any champion team in the past. Napoli have won only 13 matches this season. The team had won 28 matches in the previous season.
No Napoli had a break in their performance last season and that happened when they got eliminated from the Champions League. That was the moment when they had issues to get back to their best level as if momentum and motivation was stolen from them. It is pretty normal, but I thought that they would attack once again this season as they obviously had a high quality squad. You would think that a high quality squad might play an average season and finish 3rd or 4th, but this is weird to me. There are all these top players and out of a sudden they can't compete with the top teams at all anymore? I wonder what's going on then? it can't just be Spalletti left the club, that is by far not enough of an excuse for their current performances.
