Then transferred a file that I've identified as a Trojan. I think I may have tracked it on to the secure pc.
I am sorry for your loss.

And if you can upload and send me that file via PM i could know who is behind that hack.

Well hello there!
Was your wallet encrypted? You should first find out how this happened to prevent it from happening again.
It's a very sad story.
I guess if 140 of us donated 0.1 (which is not a big amount) we could help you with your wedding.  Wink

Also try keeping track of the coins.
I've got little over a bit-penny (0.013 I think) on my coinbase account that I could lend if it would help.  Sure wish I had it all to lend to you but really struggling right now myself but I feel for you guys and sounds like it would do you more good than I if a few larger fish hoped in and helped you out as well.  Good luck and lemme know if you want me to send that.

nwfella, thanks for the offer, that is very sweet of you  Smiley

12 months ago I  would have sent straight from cold storage to my exchange (coinjar), but after all these exchanges and online wallets that keep going down I've learnt not to trust them.

What dumb about all of this, is that my really secure small laptop would have normally processed this, but was down because I had been attempting to install a super secure Linux system onto it.  It failed and killed master boot record. It came with recovery discs for a different O/S then what was installed. Lenovo want $120 for the correct ones! Friggin Lenovo are a piece of shit, is all I can say about that!

Anyway, hindsight is a terrible super power to have & I need to concentrate on sorting this shit out! Tongue

In the future do chunks from your cold storage, Don't sell all 14 BTC at once, do like 1 BTC, 1 BTC, 1 BTC
in increments. So at most you can lose 1 BTC if your main computer gets compromised.
The moment cold coins touch hot, its vulnerable to anything. Just remember this.

I always myself do in small chunks just for safety reasons. I did once gotten hacked, luckily I was only doing small
chunks so I only lost 1 BTC vs waay more.

Just consider each BTC is like $600, and its like 30 hours at a job that makes $20/hour.
Spending an extra 10 mins per 1 BTC up to 1 hour and 30 mins for 15 coins is worth it.
14 BTC is like $8,400, or 420 hours of hard labor work, trade off for like 45-90 mins of doing it in small chunks.

Imagine if you did do 1 BTC chunks, you would of only lost 1 BTC, and not 14 BTC.

Life is a bitch sometimes, but we as all humans learn from our past mistakes.

cheers guys Smiley

I'm a really really proud guy, and I find it hard to take donations from people  Embarrassed
That's why I pushing for a loan, I feel weird being the one that receives help I suppose.

But...it's coming to the crunch and I might have to look at selling some of the more valuable Bitcoin Museum items  Undecided

Not religious or anything, but one quote from the bible sticks out in my head when I look at your past good deeds.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6:31

I think its because you saved a guys life through bone marrow donation, its that is bringing people to rescuing you.
You rescued someone else, so it happens upon you too.

People seen your good deed, see your a good honest guy, and even people above saying they seen a bunch of scam
posts, but they "believe you". Which makes me think of that passage.

Here is a picture for verification

And a picture from my facebook detailing bone marrow donation

Why not start up some crowd source donation project? Or something? Other then here?
That would help a lot more.

I agree, you'll only reach a few hundred forum regulars here in a short period.

The processes sound very similar to armory's features . But certainly worth following.

two things.

1. I want to encourage everyone to lend/donate to
these 2 individuals.  I have pledged .5 BTC.

2. I think the lesson for everyone with cold storage
is that it is better to create an offline transaction
and then broadcast than it is to move signifigant
funds from cold into hot storage.

Bro, I think giving a step by step guide on how to do that will help a lot of people in this community - me included.
Apart from keeping my things encrypted I have not looked into cold storage simply because I don't have much BTC (really I don't have almost nothing compared to what I have spend on miners  Embarrassed  I should have just bought coins instead).

But if I ever become BTC rich I would like to know about all the possible ways to protect my coins.

I am sure that others do too....

There's a step-by-step guide for installing offline Armory and creating offline transactions on their webpage:

https://bitcoinarmory.com/about/using-our-wallet/

I have my offline copy installed on an SD card with linux, but you could just put it on an old laptop/netbook.

Thanks Smiley

Will look into it.
