It seems the interest in this coin is collapsing again. Cry
Price falling, trading progressively reducing in quantity.

Not to worry.   Volume is extremely low.  I'm watching it, and I don't see any major sellers.

We'll see buyers flood in once the new client is released and the website is completed.

Most all prices are down because of China clamping down on bitcoin a bit.

I would still rather invest in a coin that is well maintained.

That's what I think is starting to happen with this coin. It's being updated to the newest bitcoin code. Now all we need is a website, forums, etc.

e.g. http://www.yacoin.org/ for example

Maybe we could organize a bounty for this. I'd be willing to contribute some.

A new website and forum is on its way!   Also, I am looking around to make sure the website is also available in Chinese!

If you could organize a bounty, then I greatly would appreciate it.

The crazy thing about iXcoin is that the only economically way to acquire it is to buy it on the open market!

I would like us to come up with a chat room.  Kind of like a 'war room' so when we release this stuff it goes off with a big bag.

www.ixcoin.co   is the destination of the new site.

From what you've communicated earlier on this thread, it sounds like an updated client will soon be released as well, based off of the 0.8 code?? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Also, do we know who maintains the current website??? It seems all you need to have a coin that gains a ton in value these days is a kick ass website and an attractive client (I mean, look at Megacoin, jeez).

Ixcoin being one of the first coins, and having 1/4 - 1/2 the hash power of bitcoin is huge, and most people don't recognize that.

May be worth gathering a bounty to do a new site.

MegaCoin client is actually very ugly and hard to read. The entire 21 million coins mined in the first 5 months out of 42 million total sounds like this coin has had its best days in the past. If the ixcoin price ever dips to 3000 satoshis again I will buy some. Otherwise, a dead coin with a big merged mined hashrate is still...a dead coin.

You have to think a bit about the fundamentals of the coin.   For 2 years the coin has traded in Vircurex for roughly the same price in BTC as it is now.   In other words, people for at least 2 years have been trading their valuable BTC for IXC.  Furthermore, it has been merged mined since block 45,000, which means that people have also been using their valuable hash to acquire IXC.

Unlike most coins in existence, the acquisition of IXC over 2 years have been quite expensive relatively.

The way I look at it is, this is a fixer upper.   A lot of potential!

Yes, you are correct, I have an updated client based on the latest Bitcoin code.

Only one connection? That seems very bad for Ixcoin, it should be able to get its full 8 even if you dont have an incoming port open...

-MarkM-

Yeah...  I was scratching my head on that one too.

I also had to manually set the add node since the seeds in the code weren't available!

Talk about neglect!!!

If folks want to make money in this, they've got to pay their dues.  We need permanent nodes!!!

Have you had any luck increasing the connection count?

Do you have the cloud nodes running yet?

Got word from an anonymous member that we'll get funds for the 2 permanent nodes!!

Wait until Vlad is back from Sighisoara. He is king of ixcoin. This is my best guess about his coordinates. It's supposed to be the birthplace of Dracula (or the real world person inspiring the story). A very nice town if you are ever in the middle of nowhere Romania/Transilvania (not to be confused with Pennsylvania, but the same type of landscape).

If I still held a few ixcoins I would chip in, but Vlad ruined it for me so I sold the remaining few thousands a few weeks back.

Man... I really hate this community!  I requested a couple days ago for some funds so we can get some permanent node up in the network!   Absolutely no response.   My patience is wearing very thin and I am going to have to take over all development and use my own funds for it!

Setting up permanent seed nodes - I want to purchase 2 x 2 year contracts for digitalocean droplets for 2 permanent nodes until 2015.

Just wondering, can these be mining nodes or will digitalocean not allow that much resource usage for just $5/month?

No, these are not mining nodes, just permanent peers on the network.   For iXcoin, the mining nodes essentially reside in pools like GHash.IO and Bitparking.   The difficulty of the network is so high that unless you are a large pool, you can't really acquire a lot of iXcoins.

Vircurex + Cryptsy = 20/30 BTC exchanged for IXC each day. Never seen something like this. Maybe next month I will be able to buy some more. Hope you don't make them skyrocket so fast! There is someone very hungry out there!!!

Well lots of stealth buying.  You don't see the buyers,  the bids are completely non-existent.

The asks though are getting taken out systematically.

A very interesting market indeed!

Okay,  I'm ready to test the new client out for merge mining.

Any recommendations on how best to do this?

I have the wallet encryption working.

./ixcoind -datadir=data encryptwallet mypassword
wallet encrypted; Ixcoin server stopping, restart to run with encrypted wallet. The keypool has been flushed, you need to make a new backup.

Ok your right.  Miners are expending massive massive amounts of cost to mine pennies worth of IXC.  They are all doing this because they are stupid.  You win.

Well, it appears you don't understand the economics of bundled goods.

Also, there are mining the merged coins because they are smart.   Namecoin for example is worth over 6 dollars.

The benefit of course is that it enhances the coin.  IXC for example has 17 times the hash rate as PPC.  IXC in fact is a more secure coin than a majority of alt-coins out there!
