If indeed John McAfee had committed a crime that caused many people to suffer losses, he should have been punished for his actions. So far, McAfee has done a lot of shitCoin promotions which have resulted in many people losing their assets. Is that why he's in prison?

John talked too much and did too little, that's his problem.

Rubbish. To give an idea about what he did:

1. Murdered an individual named Gregory V Faull.
2. Tax evasion in the United States
3. Promoted known scams, resulting in losses of millions of USD
4. Indulged in threats and blackmail
5. Tarnished the image of cryptocurrency in general

I wouldn't have bothered if he was all talk and no action. But the reality is that he scammed cryptocurrency users of their hard earned money. I just hope that he will rot in prison for the rest of his miserable life.

I don't see McAfee done little to the loss of people when evangelized the fake project for and Why do you concern him to do little when a lot of people had him back then as their influence?

well no bad deed goes unpunished either now or later, this guy did a whole lot of evangelism back then that pumped so many shitcoins. its clear he might have some shady things in his hands and this time he might not go unpunished. whatever you do, always stay clean.
It clear he had a lot of shady things in his hands cause if he can evangelize for a project not caring about the consequence there's a possibility that he might secretly be among the project team.

John McAfee was arrested almost 6 months back. And since then he is imprisoned in Spain (somewhere near Barcelona). The extradition is going to take a lot of time, if it ever happens. Take the case of Alexander Vinnik. He was arrested almost 4 years ago in Greece and the Americans have been trying to get him extradited ever since. In 2020, he was extradited to France, but till now the Americans haven't got what they wanted.

You would have to imagine Elon Musk is going to have a similar microscope put on his tweets concerning both bitcoin and DOGE.
That will be interesting if SEC put Elon on their radar.

I can't help but wonder if McAfee and his bodyguard we doing a "dry run" to see what kind of sure in price their tweets would cause - then later on go for broke and push the price five fold etc.
Possible, perhaps in the beginning they are real and genuine tweet, but when some project approaches him and offer some money for a simple tweet, then it gets out of control. John found the honey pot and milk it away as much as he can.

Businessman John McAfee, creator of the McAfee anti-virus software, has been charged in the US with conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering. Mr McAfee and his bodyguard Jimmy Gale Watson Jr are accused of promoting cryptocurrencies to Mr McAfee's large Twitter following to inflate prices. The currencies were then allegedly sold, making the pair $2m (£1.45m), prosecutors said. The

I thought crypto markets were unregulated but on the other hand a fraud is a fraud no matter what form it is in. And money laundering is a kind of a joker card. You can pretty much arrest anybody with this accusation.

Is there even one crypto business out there can prove that they not laundering money? It is impossible.

The guy had this coming when he started to promote shitcoins for money though. He wasn't a saint.
For the most part current regulations that apply to the stock markets should apply to the market of cryptocurrencies, governments have refused to acknowledge this on the law because they do not want to give legitimacy to the market, but since now they are realizing there is no way to stop this market they might as well apply those laws, we will have to see what comes from the accusations however we know for a fact that he promoted altcoins and if he sold his coins just after telling everyone to buy and used insider information so he could know the best moment to do this then he is most likely guilty of a crime and they could make an example out of him and send him to jail.

You own the pen

People stopped believing in him as early as 2019, after he promoted dozens of scams. Depending on the project, McAfee demanded up to 20% of the total supply of tokens to promote them. The promoters were happy, because these tokens didn't cost them anything. Starting with Electroneum, he promoted dozens of scam projects through his “Coin of the Day” tweet series, and caused huge losses to cryptocurrency users.

And one important factor to remember here is that McAfee not just cheated the cryptocurrency users, but at times he also double crossed the ICOs. He received huge amounts from projects such as Latium, Cpollo, Simmitri and Docademic to promote them, but never fulfilled the obligations to do so.

He is one of the reasons most people have lost their courage to invest in some other cryptocurrency that year. They thought it's just all the same and this guy has put some doubt in the heart of the people where they think cryptocurrency investment is just another way of fooling people to get their money from them. Thankfully now it's been cleared out and most of the people know already what is the cause of their losses in their crypto investment and that's because they listen to such kinds of guys in the crypto industry and they didn't spend enough time to research on their own. Those who take their time to find the truth about real investment in cryptocurrency are now celebrating their wise decisions.

He would just easily escaped out such issue even though he would be freed in situation like this but the damage that had been done when it comes to his reputation will really remain forever which means

people would hear of any of his suggestions of sentiments would really already turn out to be a joke for anybody since he had been known about shilling out for his own sake or making money then
no one would really be believing on him this time.

This is what he truly deserves on manipulating out those noobs in the market by shilling out those shitty projects and telling that it is worth.Sounds not really that much of a heavy
kind of crime but still we dont really need these kind of people into this market.

20% is a huge amount already considering that the token will already be listed in a scam exchange as well made for this scam ICO. That's beside the pay the team is paying to Macaffee every tweet he does for the project which is $100k. The money he got by simply promoting it via tweet is more than a year of my hard labor.
There is a project that survived to this day which is the YouCoin Engine, its still trading as far as I know.

Such things, in my opinion, are completely expected and "normal" for the crypto market. We all know that the crypto market is very volatile and very sensitive to manipulation by different people, even through the most innocent tweet on social networks. We've seen such examples with Dodgecoin and Elon Musk's speech and even with Bitcoin, so I'm not personally surprised.

And I'm not sure how big a crime it is to buy a coin at a very low price (after all, that's the goal of the market) and then advertise it on social media and raise the price. In my opinion, it may be difficult to prove, but still the laws in the United States on this topic are a little stricter and we will see how far the process will go.

I already saw some peeps here saying that Elon is doing the same. Dude, he is the second richest man in the world. He is not promoting shitcoins and scams. Everytime a celebrity mentions bitcoin that is already in itself promoting the cryptocurrency, then all of them should be charged with manipulation, right? Elon musk right now is being an asset to the US government and I don't think he will be charged for promoting DOGE.

the difference between McAfee and Musk, is that Musk is not receiving anything to promote doge or bitcoin. it is his own accord why he's tweeting something related to crypto. whereas, McAfee, before he tweeted something for a particular project before, he was being paid by those projects. remember the time here in the forum, when the title of the project says endorsed by McAfee. that was their bait here to attract other investors. and for sure, McAfee was paid to endorse their project.

Great to see him get what he deserves. He lied and cheated, sold his support to shitcoin devs for a few hundred dollars. He knew what he was doing and he has the money to get good lawyers. People aren't going to start "free McAfee" campaigns or anything like that. He's a selloff with no dignity and that's all I can say about him. I liked the guy when I first heard him talk about Bitcoin, but greed made his true nature manifest itself. Better that it happened sooner than later.

i bet, he really did see that coming for him. there are several coins that ended as crap, and yet he endorsed them to the public even if he knew, it had nothing in it. he was after for the payment. i thought he was a decent man, but we did see the truth when he collaborated with these scammers

McAfee also faces civil charges (via The Verge) filed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which goes into more detail about the specifics of the charges against him.
The filing stated that McAfee and Watson were "strategically selected digital assets that would be suitable for a pump-and-dump scheme," including Verge, Reddcoin, and Dogecoin, and then detailed the steps McAfee was taking to raise their prices before sellingselling, it also noted several instances where McAfee denied he had any holdings in the cryptocurrency he was promoting, or claimed that his recommendation was for long-term investments.
