It's not really surprising though. He started shilling shitcoins during the 2017 hype and made millions of money (I really doubt he only made $2,000,000 from those altcoins he pump). He basically scammed millions of users in the process just from one tweet alone. If you're from 2017, then you wouldn't forgot the infamous ETN pump.

But how will the feds handle this though? I'm sure Mcafee wouldn't just stand doing nothing.

I guess the charge sheet refers to just one scams. McAfee promoted dozens of scams, and might have earned more than $100 million from them. If I am not wrong, he was charging $100,000 or so for a single tweet. And he made hundreds of tweets during this period. On top of this, he received royalty payments from various scam projects that he promoted. BTW, I would like to know how the authorities are planning to go ahead with inquiry in to the murder of Gregory Viant Faull. McAfee is the prime accused.

Lol this guy is still relevant? I thought we was in jail already. Or is this an old news? I have been hearing again and again that he has been "arrested" or "prosecuted" for several acts related to crypto currencies. Well, I wouldn't be surprised. They way he started to shill for different shit coins, he had it coming really. Wasn't he supposed to eat his own dick live? lol.
I thought crypto markets were unregulated but on the other hand a fraud is a fraud no matter what form it is in.
No, its not. What made you think the crypto market is unregulated? The regulatory bodies are catching up. Eventually they are applying policies slowly that no one is realizing how heavily the crypto market is now regulated.

And the good and bad news about this one is literally anyone who tweets that is also an influencer can be subject to such criminal charges without them knowing, the bad news here is normal people like us might get caught on the wrong side of the law.

I mean, anyone can be charged, but do keep in mind any accusations must be proven in court. I don't think we'll be seeing many other "influencers" being charged unless they're as brazen as McAfee was. Authorities probably wouldn't have gone after McAfee if they didn't believe they had a solid case, and he likely gave that to them himself with his tweets lmao.

If anything, authorities might go after pump and dump group operators considering they're openly doing what McAfee is being brought to court for.

Are they sure that they do only make out $2m (£1.45m)? I dont really believe such thing because if you do look at on how this dude shilling out coins here and there then you can say that this is just a small amount.

It is just right that he would really be facing out those consequences but i doubt that this wont really be much of a problem no matter how many times he would be facing up some charges because
he would eventually skip or solved it.

but this situation should really be an eye opener for those who are planning or trying out to make some shills.

So what really got my attention is the authorities have considered pumping and dumping as fraud now. Pumping and dumping in itself isn't the fraud but the lies and deception the person is doing is what considered the fraud here. McAfee for example has a hidden agenda while he bought those crypto early he then Tweets misleading information and sometimes pure lies just to influence the market which he really do as he knows he has a large following in Twitter.

Yep, here's one general definition:

A deliberate scheme to obtain financial or similar gain by using false statements, misrepresentations, concealment of important information, or deceptive conduct is known as fraud.

That seems pretty spot on for what he did. Actually proving that on court is a wholly different story, but even if that doesn't stick, he has openly admitted to accepting money from ICOs (after the fact) in exchange for promoting them on twitter.

And the good and bad news about this one is literally anyone who tweets that is also an influencer can be subject to such criminal charges without them knowing, the bad news here is normal people like us might get caught on the wrong side of the law. I think we all know by now that influential people in the crypto industry are using their huge following for their own personal gain or at least with biases on their own so since one of the big fish is caught and charged now they should at least now think twice of what they are typing before they publish it online. Since the authorities have now acted on one of the most known individual in the crypto industry it is only a matter of time for them to start looking for some other fish to fry.

Hardly anyone doubted that everything would end this way.
Has been accused of buying cryptocurrency assets before the campaign on twitter alleging that they paid another 11 million from cryptocurrency start ups to promote their assets on twitter which was not disclosed to investors. The emerging cryptocurrency market has exploited a widely used social media platform and enthusiasm among investors he invests a lot of money but everything will not end easily.

For me, alongside Mark Karpeles and Craig Wright, John McAfee ranks as one of the worst enemies of cryptocurrency. I hope he will spend the rest of the his miserable life behind bars, without any possibility of a parole.
Mark Karpeles scammed with mtgox and John McAfee scammed by promoting scam projects but no one lost money with the claims of Craig Wright.

The Americans are trying to get him extradited for some time, but this guy managed to avoid that until now. Once he is deported back to the United States, he will be tried for the 2012 murder of Gregory Faull. A few years back, a US Federal District judge ordered McAfee to pay a compensation of $25 million, but he ignored the judgement.
If John McAfee is extradited to the US then he will be spending the rest of his life in jail and knowing that he will be trying his best to defend that from happening.
He was planning to eat his own dick and he might get the opportunity to take as many dicks as possible if he is extradited back to the US Grin. Fuck him as he was shilling hard for scams and he was adamant that he does not care if it is a scam which means he accepted his fate.

watched that story on youtube where he hired mobsters on the island and then murdered his neighbor. the reason was about his dog walking around or something. it's all in youtube the mcaffee documentary. this guy they say is a madman. he is detained in pain. if extradited, that's when we see him sentenced for his jail time. and then he could eat lots of dick inside.

his riches turned his life worse. he made a lot of business and in the documentary, it was said that he raped his partner. crazy stuff.

McAfee is one of the early investor on cryptocurrency. In between he got into paid promotion on various worthless projects. This way he lost his reputation as an investor and as a personality who is much praised by common people who are new to the cryptocurrency network. Fraudulent activities are common with cryptocurrency, and we need to be active to stay on the safer side.

I have to disagree. Do you remember what happened in early 2020? Craig Wright first crashed the price of BSV, by filing lawsuits. Once he accumulated enough coins, he did a pump, which increased the price by around 200%. And at this point, again he sold most of his coins. The entire process lasted 2-3 months and gave him a considerable profit. Normally whales do pump-and-dump. In this case, it was dump-pump-dump.

Money laundering and exploision were pointed out for the two liable person. Just when I thought cryptocurrency can't be controlled but after reading some content related to this, I realized how they manipulate prices buy buying tons of crypto coins to inflate and deflate it.

McAfee can defend it to the court but I don't think US Justice Dept  will gonna easy with this one as it was a heavy accusations to the both of them.

Yep, here's one general definition:

Elon Musk is doing the same thing now. I am very interested in whether Elon Musk will be prosecuted for pumping dogecoins.

Elon's is a bit different. He just mentions Dogecoin and Bitcoin without really saying anything concrete. Even if we do assume that Elon makes money from this, he technically isn't deceiving anyone simply by memeing. Something tells me that he has done his homework on this and that we're in for a hell of a ride in the near future.

McAfee on the other hand, actively promotes the coins he's shilling for by saying they're the future, they have good potential, etc., which is clearly deceptive considering he was earning money from it behind the scenes.

This isn't the first time McAfee has been accused of fraud, right? , and the accusations this time around have been in quite a dangerous case, promoting crypto with whatever purpose is expected
but a Crypto influencer does promote a product / coin right? , and influencers really like to lie with the aim that the items they promote sell well, so what's the problem if McAfee is an influencer there is no problem if he promotes coins that dare to pay him dearly.

The Justice department's website gave a detailed version on what McAfee is charged with basically it is for pumping and dumping which is his first scheme and the the second one is the hyping up of ICOs that he mainly tweets because he has a large group of following in Twitter.

First, MCAFEE, WATSON, and other McAfee Team members bought large quantities of publicly traded cryptocurrency altcoins

Second, after these purchases, MCAFEE published false and misleading endorsement tweets via his Official McAfee Twitter Account recommending those altcoins to members of the investing public for investment in order to artificially inflate (or “pump” up) their market prices without disclosing that MCAFEE owned large quantities of the promoted altcoins, even though MCAFEE had given false assurances that he would disclose such information in various tweets and public statements during the scalping scheme.

Third, MCAFEE, WATSON, and other McAfee Team members then sold (or “dumped”) their respective investment positions in the promoted altcoins into the temporary but significant short-term market price increases that MCAFEE’s deceptive tweets typically generated, often for significant profits.

I still remember when McAfee was manipulating the cryptocurrency market by posting tweets about relatively unknown/new coins and incentivizing his followers to invest in them. It's kinda similar to what Elon is doing right now! But I thought he stopped doing this a long time ago!
Besides profiting from investing in those coins, he was paid for every tweet he posted to promote a new project.

Elon Musk just pumped Doge and will this end in a tail? I think Elon Musk is just expressing doge but not falling into a dead project.
I think it's not different from what Elon did, but, I'll just leave it to the fate whatever is going to come or not on him.
This is why I prefer to stay aay from social media and my investors. The outside influence can be destructive and cause you to give in to FUD or some other form of loss and no one needs that so staying away from others and their opinions and what coins to buy is best. It is important for us to learn about things ourselves and trust in our own beliefs.
There are good influencers actually but by the time you'll know that they're not good anymore is when they're starting to promote projects that you know are just pump and dump schemes.
