Probably for the best,

All he used to do was promote coins he had invested a load into, and then sell when it had been pumped, Verge was the best example of this.

Its a shame that youtubers also do this, those with 100k+ subs will promote coins they have just bought, and then sell as the price increases.

In general, I think that McAfee made a logical choice because the majority of ICO is not profitable for investment (maybe 80%). Moreover, in this field, there are many scammers and unfortunately, the number of those cheaters is in high, especially in the last period, that's why many avoid choosing ICO for investment due to their fear of not earning money or because of the possibility of being a scam ICO, and the majority of them choose the cryptocurrencies (who exist on the market) for trading because simply, the profit in that field is guaranteed better than ICO's.
On the other hand, I advise everyone to avoid the information of the whales or capitalists ( like, McAfee ) because they can manipulate the user sof cryptocurrencies through some fake news or predictions in order to achieve their goals.

Personally I see it this way. When all the noise and screaming that all the end of cryptocurrency and bitcoin, then now is the best time to buy coins and join the ICO. About McAfee, he's a regular media man, nothing more. He was paid, he said he was stopped, he said it was all over. Just a regular news bullet.

Well there was a time when john mcafee was making a lot more sense before he was recommending weak coins and making dick eating predictions. Many people lost money with his tweets for icos that ended up trash, no wonder he's getting death threats

Yeah this seems the most valid and logical reason here , because in past he promoted many icos and worked as advisor in many project , in docademic i think he hold big part of supply and project raised funds less than hardcap still it is x10 of ico price within few weeks after ico end . so many accusations were put on him . also a ICO named pink taxi got some allegation , that was also promoted by him .

well we can only speculate , only he knows the exact reason .

He was asking a little too much to promote a project @ $100,000 for a simple tweet regardless of the SEC's position which is still unclear

Instead a proper review should have been submitted through a credible ratings site or high profile blog

He deserve it. He is sucking money from people who dont know what crypto is and put it in shitcoin which can pay him and this thing is not good and healthy for a whole crypto space. Crypto currencies can lose people trust if he did not shutdown his service which in my opinion is shilly services. 1 tweet for $100k and the coin or token is not proven to be strong and usefull like ethereum and other top 5 crypto.

The government nailed John McAfee to stop. This is bad because with these we can see that government can control or manipulate an entity. I do hope that more and more people will switch and use the block chain technology until the time that government needs to accept it. The truth is government does not like the block-chain technology or bitcoin.

I dont fucking blame him, regarding SEC and ICO's he is the canary in the coal mine. Soon we will see the end of ICO's, or at least a huge reduction in them as the SEC tighten their grip on the crypto sphere. As for me, Im steering clear of ICO's, except HOWY coin hahaha

It's not clear why he is treated so badly. A man did business, earned money, promote projects. Yes, not very successfully, and someone was losing money, but he did not force anyone to invest. For example, I, do not care what he advertises. I think that in people says envy. How much should cost his tweet ? 50 dollars? If you want to invest, think by your own head, to not blame somebody else after.
