Ever heard of the Bilderberg group? It was made for this purpose, to manipulate the economy and political situation. If you gather a group of the most powerful people in the world and focus them on a specific area, branch of industry, country, whatever, you can do anything you want. They could bring a whole country back from debt and poverty or run a prospering one into debt.

it's plain dumb to measure happiness in wealth.

The richest man in the world could die of cancer in a 1 or less (steve jobs).

I'd rather stay healthy than rich

There are people who live in those simple houses and are very happy compared to many people who live in their palaces.

How can you be so sure? I am 100% confident that they will be much more happier, if they could afford quality healthcare and send their children to good schools. In most of the cases, money can buy you happiness.

Same 8 men will lose the wealth of half the world... when they die.    Cool

I agree

it is true only 8 richest man, and there are a quarter people on earth who live in poverty.

Many of these billionaires have fortune because they Harms many people

it is true only 8 richest man, and there are a quarter people on earth who live in poverty.

They are poor because they were producing dozens of children each, rather than concentrating on education. Even if the super-rich donates a part of their fortune to these people, they will return to poverty after a short while. There is only one permanent method to end poverty - family planning.

Would be a solution, but as long as poor countries are run by unscrupulous people, will hardly escape poverty.

There is no point in being jealous. They became rich through their hard work. For example, Bill Gates put decades of effort for Microsoft, before the Windows OS and MS Office became popular. None of them were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Most of this wealth they hold is speculative in form of shares.

If they were to sell those shares the price of those shares would fall steeply

Just 8 men own same wealth as half the world

Quote
Eight men own the same wealth as the 3.6 billion people who make up the poorest half of humanity, according to a new report published by Oxfam today to mark the annual meeting of political and business leaders in Davos.

Oxfam’s report, ‘An economy for the 99 percent’, shows that the gap between rich and poor is far greater than had been feared. It details how big business and the super-rich are fuelling the inequality crisis by dodging taxes, driving down wages and using their power to influence politics. It calls for a fundamental change in the way we manage our economies so that they work for all people, and not just a fortunate few.

New and better data on the distribution of global wealth – particularly in India and China – indicates that the poorest half of the world has less wealth than had been previously thought.  Had this new data been available last year, it would have shown that nine billionaires owned the same wealth as the poorest half of the planet, and not 62, as Oxfam calculated at the time.
