i have 3 s7 with 1 fan, my fan speed all set to max 100% = 5880 rpm, no choice the temp. here now is 35'C.
set to 90%

then  tell us rpm  please at 90%

if rpm does drop to  5500 at 90% check the temps very carefully.

basically fans at max rpm and fans at just under max rpm cool the same.

ie a fan running at 5500 rpm should do the same as a fan at 5880 rpm.

and that slight underclock makes fan last a lot longer.

It is a sweet spot all fans have it and it depends on the fan and the heat sink pattern.

If you can run the fan at 5500 rpm vs 5880 rpm and not overheat    you will save some money.

Tested one of the S7 with 90% fan speed =5280rpm , the temp rise 2'c on each board, 72,72,76.
when the fan run at max, the temp read 70,70,73.

room temp = 35'c

so it appears that  the 1 fan units  100% is the true number .    that is bad that you need to run at max speed (kills fan very fast)

humor me  try 95%  see if the fan gets to 5500 rpm and temps  are equal to the 5880 rpm  as weird as request is  if you find 5500 rpm keeps you low enough .

You are really hot whats the room temp 35C or higher?

Nice way to start the day. Blocks...and knowing someone is getting to go to ACDC...for those who are about to rock, we do salute you (a favorite film these days is School of Rock).

Machines are playing nice. Will bump them up again and see wha' hoppen...  Wink

Rock on, Kano. Good stuff.

Your machine setup and performance seems to be rocking...post pictures of your setup if you get a chance!

I'll do that...soon as I finish the housework, etc.  Cry  I've got both the B12 and B16 at 750M @100% fan(s), w/good numbers still (1 hr out). May finally get >5TH/s from each...sorta kinda numbs the hurt from losing my mythical 80A. Will still have to monitor closely around 1500 local time as that is when ambient can get up to 80-85F this time of year, and despite having 1,250 CFM blasted through each of their insulated 7x17x45 (in.) styrofoam tunnels, they could heat up I guess.

OT, I know...but someone here (and I can't remember who or I'd just PM it) mentioned in a positive way that they were USN during the early 70s. To that brother...USCG Combat Squadron One, Da Nang, 65-69. Yeah...we bad, we bad (cue Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder from Stir Crazy)...and too old to do anything about it.  Grin  I know...movie stuff. I could care less about MTV, but I want my IMDB...

Life is good. Mine on...

Thanks for your advice there philipma1957 - I suspected that but never really knew.

Interesting discussion - anybody care to comment on this?

I have always run my S7 B15's at Freq 750

What is a good HW number - and what is not?  Anything I can improve on here?

Ambient 20DegC and going down hard.
PSU Bitmain APW3-12-1600-B2
Power draw S7 plus PSU at board 1.47KW +/-

Thanks usukan

Interestingly they draw 1.47 KW at Freq 750

That is a good set of numbers leave it be. the 1470 watts for  5055 is also pretty good about .29 watts a gh  the low chip machines do not go much lower then .30 watts

well it looks like my S7 is going to be delivered while I'll be away on a prolonged week-end and attending the ACDC concert...

Hopefully the delivery guy will ring me and the neighbours can take it.

Roll on sunday  so I can catch up as i turned off my 4xS5...

Enjoy Axl!  I hear his debut was great and he did ACDC right.

Call the shipping company and give them the alternate address of your neighbor for this package.  UPS will do this and I'm sure other shippers will also.  I once re-directed an S7 coming to my home in Virginia via UPS to my data center in the state of Washington and they did it!

Dumb question, perhaps...but curious whether to try to bump the freq on my one Batch 12 S7 to maybe 725. The changes I made to the rack have both the units down by 10+C...and this one's running a consistent <=60C on all three boards. PSUs are 2KW split boxes (1KW ea) and up to it, I think.

Any educated guesses on what would happen? Worth the effort/risk? This box is off warranty.

Sure  eventually there is a freq that is too high  and the gear has more hw's  so the freq setting makes you lose money.

so

700 = .0001 hw  +  temps are low  bump to
706 = .0010 hw  temps go from 55 to 58 bump to
712 = .0025 hw temps go from 58 to 61 bump to
718 = .0050 hw temps go from 61 to 64 bump to
725 = .0250 hw hemps go from 64 to 67   too high drop to 718

this is a typical result.     your top end will be 712, 718, 725, 731,737  just move your freq   6 at  a time

Hey...cool. Well worded and perfect sense. I'm willing to risk a bit on this box as I have another (B16) spare. Mahalo! (Thx)  Grin

EDIT: Did that...running essentially cool and normal at 725. Watching it closely, though. It may be different when the ambient goes up.

In my experience the determining factor in OC for antminers is HW and not temp.  This has been true for me going back to S1.  This assumes your PSU is more than up to whatever freq you set.  It's normal to see temps rise with higher freq but I always hit an unacceptable HW rate before I hit an unacceptable temp.
