Has anyone else noticed that the transactions in the Mempool have skyrocketed over the last two days -- 16000 transactions  - could there be some kind of attack that is preventing us from hitting blocks ?

Well, it looks like we are above 350% again.  Every time we pass 350% I permanently add 5% to the amount I'm renting.  Long term I plan to gradually grow my rate anyway; it is just a matter of timing.  I figure 350% is roughly the tipping point at which some bad luck is behind us and I need to start building a stronger N avg for things upcoming.

I (with the help of my bot) have managed to keep a fairly steady average rate rented for a couple weeks now.  I'm up about 9% this month with a red line around 118TH-- not too bad.  Have some fun busting this block with some large rentals, but please keep the rates under 0.0032 if at all possible.  Following y'all up there gets expensive!

started a 1PH for an hour to try and crack it. if not will try again for another hour.

This is going to be a no rental weekend.
Taking off for 3 days, but I will still have 32th pointed in real gear.

I'll match your 1 PH -- can only afford an hour or two though

CKDB restart coming up in about 1.5 hrs - the shift summary around 13:30 UTC
No miners will be affected
Web page will have lotsa '?' for about 15 minutes

This is another code test restart.
I've made some major changes in the ckdb processing since I found the cause of the 'sequence' issue before.
This is the first attempt at trialling the code with the large throughput of the pool.
So I'm actually not really expecting it to be OK, but rather see the affect of the complete redesign of the threaded processing and sort out where it might need 'adjustment'.

Hopefully we'll find (some) blocks before that and mess up my testing schedule Cheesy
I'll repost if that happens and work out when the restart will be.
Well the test restart turned into being the real thing.
No problems at all, running without a glitch, so far for 40min, fingers crossed Smiley
Restart was 13:33 UTC to 13:42

So that looks like I've finally sorted out all the sequence/threading issues, and that also includes a memory leak fix so hopefully ckdb can again last a lot longer without needing a restart.
That change took quite a long time to test coz I could only test and reproduce the issues on the live pool, so could only test changes once every few days, since I didn't want to be restarting ckdb over an over.

Now, time for blox! Smiley

I was ok with Win 8.1 until Win 10 came out.  Then updates add win 10 problems and the win 10 nag malware started screwing things up.

Here's a great utility to get rid of the Win10 Nagware.  GRC is a very reputable source.

I'm sure the Chinese feast will end soon man.  They are not really above what they were running before. Ant is at 343PH. Last time I checked a week ago they were at 346PH. F2pool also the same speed as last week. Pretty much the same conditions almost with a tiny diff drop.  I just got a week on a couple small rigs.  My NH is about to run out and I'll just wait for more blocks before I go taking risks.  I'm a small fry though so I'm sure someone else could advise you better.  Really though everything is almost the same as last go round and we have a better weekly luck average.

Ok. I'm about to try Xubuntu on usb first.   Xubuntu 16.04 LTS I'm thinking to try first, then maybe play with the other later.  Do you guys like LTS or the other version?  I'm not sure if my AV/security suite supports linux, so I need some suggestions there.  Any troubleshooting utilities also, since I can carry this OS.  Linux noob other than ssh via telnet to miners and some ras pi stuff.  Mostly just miner/cgminer stuff.  Load, Hash, clock, chip etc...

Sorry not sorry for being off topic from pool a bit, but I'm excited about the possibility of new miners so I can get back in the game.  Point some owned rigs to Kano.  I may even go get some jobs to get it going proper.  I'm also trying to keep busy while waiting on this long block, when your 90 percent rentals it stresses you out.  The answers I get here are better than anywhere else.  Most times when I ask this stuff, I get an answer and think meh I'll just research it myself.  But yous guys gots good brains in yer head Smiley

Your right about many of the games dreamer, a lot of my HTPC/Gaming customers wouldn't go linux because the games they liked were not supported.  I was ok with Win 8.1 until Win 10 came out.  Then updates add win 10 problems and the win 10 nag malware started screwing things up. Trying to force bullshit OS they can't give away and pretty much mucking it all up like some of you talked about in detail.

Is it block Friday yet?  Or do we have 45 minutes to go?

The last 38 blocks  37 for Chinese pools  1 for non-Chinese

check below

https://blockchain.info/blocks

I see one for slush the rest for Chinese pools

409331 (Main Chain)   2016-04-28 22:54:21 down to:

409294 (Main Chain)   2016-04-28 17:03:53

So I guess the Chinese have every S7 - not yet shipped to customers - online mining for them.
Hopefully there will be a block Friday (and I'm awake to raise the hash speed of my rental. Right now it's just idling.)

I hate these dry stretches as it makes it so difficult to know when to rent some extra horsepower.
Any suggestions on strategy are welcome! Thanks! Smiley

OK my last off topic comment on this Smiley
I haven't played PC 'action' games since DoD2, RO and Counterstrike2
Every game I ever play (now) is on a console ... avoids spending $1000's every couple of years coz your PC sux vs the latest games.
(Yeah I've got 'lotsa' consoles)
Basically any game that comes on a console is coded to perform the same as everyone else running it and you know it wont be slow for that same reason.

Best shooter game of all time IMO is MAG ... just wish there was a PS4 version.
Best other game ... ... Mario Kart Smiley
The only games, that consoles are problematic on IMO, is RPGs with typing - haven't done any of that since RO.

Soooooo, on topic Smiley ... my desktop is linux, my servers are all linux, the pool servers are all linux, everything is linux - except the consoles Smiley
(and I have an XP VM, needed to run tax stuff Tongue)

My suggestion in that arena is ubuntu coz it's easy to setup and update, and specifically xubuntu coz I abhor unity.
