If we hit one more block before the contest starts tonight the Kano pool will have exactly double the number of blocks hit in December. We had 39 in December and we are at 77 right now for January...we have 8.5 hours to go for the Avalon6!

You are absolutely right! That's why I limited it to 4 hours and intended to just give them my 0.2BTC outright for fun! It would have been a real hoot if it hit the Avalon but it was not to be...

Exactly. As most people know there really is no expected return on a rental. You could start a rental right as we begin a 500% block... that will be a tough return. Over the long term it generally evens out, but a short term rental can be painful.

As a lottery for the first Avalon6, I rented 200THs for 4 hours when the contest started on the 18th with no expectations of return...no dice on the Avalon6 as expected but a fun lottery to watch with an extra 200TH on the charts on top of my 24TH for 4 hours. But then I ended up with 6 shifts at the higher average and it paid 6 times. I ended up making a pretty bit of profit on that short rental unexpectedly!

I'd not be surprised if the hash rate jump was rental - so no idea if it's short term or not.

If the hash was rental, someone was paying .0099 for it. Both sides of nicehash was all rented by one guy, over 10ph for .0099. Crazy!
